La traducción sería... "I cried like Mary Magdalene"... la mitad de los gringos no sabe quién es Mary Magdalene, y la otra mitad se hubiera ofendido por cuestiones religiosas. "I cried like a baby" es la frase que usan ellos.

Karl marx approves a film that's about serfhood and class division.
This is a movie about family, men, women and children.....about love...loss....politics...LIFE.... is not about Mexico, it's universal. He made it universal and that's why it's wonderful because all human beings no matter where they are from experience the same emotions. An empathy machine cinema must be and this movie accomplishes that.
Beautiful. Thanks for finally showing a normal video about common people in a common neighborhood in Mexico. So sorely lacking in Hollywood!
@robroux6074
5 жыл бұрын
This is not a common neighborhood in Mexico. Roma is actually the Santa Monica/ Glendale CA of Mexico City. Roma,Polanco and Condessa are nothing but pretentious racist xenophobic pricks. I'm glad Cuaron casted Indigenous women as his lead(supposedly-if you watch the movie its not really about her). But he did not show the realities of how the people of ROMA treat the indigenous peoples, they treat them as if they were pets or slaves. If you are not from that neighberhood and are brown skinned, they will outwardly call you "PINCHE INDIO" (the N word[50's jim crow style] of Mexico ). If you want a real common and normal neighberhood of Mexico City ; its Tepito, Azcapuzalco, Tacuba, Alvaro Obregon-district.

@@rgdssd You can't compare cheap property in Zapopan or Michocan to buying a property in 1960s ROMA-CDMX. Roma is very different from a Rancho in Michocan and it looks nothing like those rumbos.Today Roma is a much different place filled with high-end boutiques and the borgoues (wannabee hipster)class. Thats like comparing Alpharetta to Santa Monica/Glendale. Two very different places. No shit sherlock, why should anyone care what people think of them, but when it comes to getting a good job in Mexico, then thats where color comes to play in Mexico. From what i've heard Guadalajara is different to CDMX in that aspect but my point is that the people in ROMA are very narcistic xenophobes, they still do exist , I would assume at this point its everywhere.But, Roma , Polanco and Condessa have high ammounts of these pricks and anybody from CDMX knows that 95% of the people are Dic*'* .

Yes, and Hollywood and the US in general are totally ignorant about Mexico, Mexico City, Mexico's long tradition of making good films, Mexican society, etc. From Hollywood, we continue to see references to Mexico in the form of drug dealers, illegal immigration, dirty streets, border towns, etc., perpetuating a sad and inaccurate stereotype. Hopefully, a movie like Roma may change some minds, however, I doubt it,
As much as I loved A Star is Born, Roma really stole my heart. I honestly hope it wins Best Picture it’s just absolutely beautiful. That beach scene alone should win an Oscar.

Angelina Jolie had a private party for Alfonso and the team, Sandra Bullock said she almost had a panic attack..... this movie is universal, both women and men cry. It puts the spotlight on the sentiments of people that we seldom see.... men will empathize with the women in this film, Cuaron did something marvelous, he created a movie that was so well directed that it looks effortless. One just feels for the characters and the children, and one feels they are like US.... because they are, divisions don't really exist between people.

@@peaceandlove544 In the 70's it was not ilegal to have an underage maid in México. And it was almost a given that every middle class, even the lower middle class, could afford to have one maid after they had kids. They worked with the consent of their parents, and as far as I know they had to go to school, and their employers had to pay for their books, their school uniforms, and their new school supplies. It was practically like rising another child, except for the not so subtle separation of classes. Unlike Cuaron's family in the movie, the housewives in the 70's used to stay at home and do at least half of the work, so it wasn't considered child abuse, because it was the same work they were doing. I don't know what the laws are now in mexico, but it doesn't matter, because now, only the very rich can afford servants and they go through agencies that make all kind of background checks to hire them..

So True. He did not show the RACISM and Xenophboia of these Elitist Pricks. The lady starts off as a Bi*** but then chills out at the end, but honestly, in real life, she would have fired CLEO when she found out about the pregnancy. This film didn't capture all of the realism of the Racial hate the people of Roma have toward the Indigneious mexicans. GAEL GARCIA BERNALS DEFECEIT really shows the RACISM of Mexico City and how bad it really is.

my dad worked with Alfonso for about a week in 2015, as the location scout for a project in South Africa. They drove around for a week, just the two of them. my dad says that it was one of the most incredible experiences of his life, and that Alfonso was the most down to earth, easy to talk to person. whenever someone comes over for dinner, Alfonso always comes into the conversation. at 13 years old, i didn't understand why this man was so interesting to my dad, but at 17, i get it. he's an incredible director and seems like such an incredible man. robbed of best picture :(
I have so much to say about this film, about Alfonso, about this time in my life and how this movie just takes me back... I grew up in la Condesa, just blocks away from Roma, my brother and I went to school in the same neighborhood as Alfonso, how many times could we had possibly met or crossed paths without knowing time will bring us back again together, him as a storyteller and me as a mesmerized spectator... I live in the US now and watched this movie with my SO who happens to be Czech she as well felt an enormous nostalgia and felt so identified with this film, Alfonso managed to cross 3 different worlds within our walls... Gracias Alfonso!
Love this movie as it reflected the Mexico I knew and loved when living in Guadalajara in 1962.
