    Many thanks, Tony! i really find your videos helpful, especially this one where I've been quoted about £ 480 to change both rear boot wire loom. this was the first video I saw on the fix. I also looked at the loom replacement kit. finally I saw someone pull out the grommet & feed out 10cm of cable.. so I had a go myself, these were my steps. pull out the grommet to top & bottom, ease out as much cable as possible - no tools needed, this is in fact very simple. you now have 10cm of cable top & bottom, plus 10cm inside the grommet. In my case there were 2 wires broken (black & yellow/green). strip the top broken wires 1cm & solder 30cm of 18AWG to the ends, heatshrink over the join. sellotape the ends of the new wires to a kitchen skewer and push through the grommet. (I had only two wires to identify, so the shorter one was the yellow/green). slip on the heatshink first, then solder again the wires. push the top grommet into the boot lid (very easy, no tools, no special effort). then for the bottom, feed all the cables into the bodyshell & push the grommet back in (again easy). really it was a 20minute job. I was using a gas soldering iron, so a bit more faff than it should be. Main thing is all the dash warning lights have gone now. time will tell how good the soldering was..

I had stripped insulation off one wire but none broken on the right hand loom, 2 broken on the left hand loom, one of which was the boot courtesy light. No idea what the second one was as everything was working! Couple of hours work and the cost of a few bits of heatshrink was all it took.

    I think that on most wiper systems if the blade does not stop at the correct location it's a matter of the electromechanical switches in the wiper mechanism. Last one I did was my 60 Chevy and that was just a bit of corrosion on the contacts. I have not had that yet on my Giuiletta but you showed us the location of the rear wiper unit and it's not too bad to get to.

I would rather put into the flexible some new wires and clip it before and after the flex tube, so you don’t stress the soldering joints that much and maybe have to redo the job in 1-2 years again. (Been there already myself with a Skoda Superb 😅) But beside of that really nice explanation and walk trough in detail and also the reminders for those specialities for the Giulietta. • @vialettotony

    @vialettotony

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Ash. I believe the terminal is soldered on to the copper conductors of the window. Short of attempting to resolder back on to it, I’m not sure what other options there are. With this option, there’s a small risk of shattering the glass due to localised heat, but as it’s tempered, it should reduce the issue. Let me know if you give it a go and how you get on. Hi. Add a little more time as the left hand side needs a little more work because of the centre brake light. With regard to knowing which cable is which, on mine they had broken all at slightly different lengths so was able to label them up with a bit of tape and a number written on. The black cables on mine also all had individual markings on them which was a bit difficult to see. And lastly, there are a lot of different gauge wires, so different thicknesses make it easy to identify. Hope that helps. All the best 👍

    Hi. Removing the panels will make it easier otherwise you won’t get the slack. Heat shrink I used a lighter I think (carefully). Was just wondering how you figured out which ends of the broken wires were the correct ones to join together. I have a similar issue and have discovered 5 broken wires. I spent an hour just by process of elimination joining then re-joining different permutations of the wires in a temporary way and thought I had solved the problems, but then the 'check running lights' fault re-appeared even though all wires are now joined together, be that temporarily for now. I don't want to go ahead and permanently join the wires until I am certain they are the correct joins. On the upside, my rear wiper was not working also, but it is now and even resets back to its original position when I switch it off. So I'm sure that they can't just be re-joined any old how.

    I now have a print off of the colour codes if you still need it. I’m not able to share images on here but can through my insta. There’s a link to my insta on my KZread banner. Send me a message on there if you need it. All the best 👍

    My reversing light in one side goes on and off and I'm suspecting that the white rear tail light connector is corroded. I've tried to clean it but nothing.. any chance to change that connector and if so, where can I get that?... I've found it for different Alfa models but not for Giulietta.h

    Which side is the wire connecting the plate light?

    The number plate light is not in the boot loom. It comes from the main body. See my video for how to remove the rear bumper. All the best.

    Stupid question - but do I need to disconnect the battery before I start this? Or is it ok as long as the car is turned off. Cheers Mate

    You should really be fixing this with the repair kits as the new wiring is more flexible and will be much less likely to break again whereas your soldering will more than likely snap or crack in the first winter.

    Hi Vito. Thanks for your comment. I’m pleased to report that the first side has been perfect since I repaired it in 2014, 8 years ago. The one in the video has been good for nearly two years now too. Quite surprised but goes to show if you do it properly it makes a difference. Thanks for watching. All the best and safe driving 👍

    @@mrbrownz554 I've worked on the giullietta since they've been out in 2010. I must have carried out loom repairs at least over 30 times. Most of the time they've been repaired by someone already using this method and it doesn't last. The repair kits have a much better silicone wire that does not go hard like the originals. The fact is, it all depends on how much you use the boot, if it's not often then this repair will last a while. But in my experience it's not a permanent fix.

    @vitocorleone8360 Iv fixed my loom with added wire and shrink tubing it's part of the fun of owning an alfa fixing these problems I can't wait until the next wire breaks 😀 I get your point though but normal people don't own alfas
