Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio Review: Remastered

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I was vey happy with my review of the Alfa Giulia Quad, however I was trying some new filming techniques and that produced some undesirable pictures - many people commented on it and so I present here a "fixed" version of that review.
The content has not changed, no edits were made, just an improvement in the picture quality for the opening.

Carbon bonnet was prototyped in the uk by Gurit automotive.... (label by Rh hinge) I was a development engineer there and worked on the project. I selected and qualified the Blue sika structural adhesive for bonding the hood together. Worked with others on the robotic bonding and painting processes. Laid up the first outer skins at the tool manufacturer "Weber industries" in Ontario Canada. Bonnet production shifted to Hungary and now the company has been sold to italians Carbopress. Still it was good while it lasted.

Honestly I'm sold on the steering over the M cars, the interior, and really just the looks. I prefer the softer lines, they are sexier than the German counterparts. I own an E90 I feel that was the last of the decent looking ones.

@@pappyodanial I really liked my E92 335i but it had more problems than my 2020 QV. The E92 was rear ended and I replaced it with a CPO 2019 Giulia TI Lusso then traded it 7 months later for a new 2020 QV. It's a special car in all respects.

Great review Jay. You quite clearly get the point of this car. Following up on your comment, if you are in the market for an M2/3/4 or C63 then at least take this out for a test drive, you will be blown away. I’ve had an e92 M3 and M2 (both fabulous cars), but my first love was my e39 M5. This Alfa even surpasses that masterpiece. I’ve had my Quadrifoglio for 2 months now and she is just incredible in every respect. This car is absolutely going to become a classic.

I bought my first alfa about 7 or 8 years ago (a 147 Twin Spark) and from that moment onwards 3 out of the 6 cars Ive owned have been Alfas - a 147 TS, a 147 GTA, and a Giulietta QV. The other three cars were a Lexus IS200, Subaru Legacy RSK and W204 Mercedes C250. I loved every one of those Alfas, and they all made me truly feel a sense of passion for them. The 147's made me feel thrill and excitement every time I drove them, while the Giulietta made me feel all warm and fuzzy just by looking at it. Other then the Selespeed gearbox in my first 147 they were all very reliable cars as well, and while maintenance costs weren't necesarily cheap they haven't been crazy expensive either. By comparison the Lexus had plety of quality/reliability issues, was very expensive to miantain, and gave little joy in ownership. The Subaru had good quality control and was enjoyable to own but still had its share of mechancal problems that weren't cheap to fix. The Merc has so far been trouble free and a complete joy to own and drive. In my time with cars I've owned an Alfa that never had a single fault and ive owned a Lexus that cost me a ton of grief and money. At the end of the day so much of it all comes down to luck. In my time I've learnt one big lesson. Any "prestige" or "enthusiast" car has got the poential to cause you headaches and empty your wallet. So if you're going to buy one then you may as well buy the one that's going to make you smile and feel a true sense of joy - that way if you do run in to headaches and your wallet does take a hit, at least it feels like it's worth it. If you want to play safe with a car purchase that wont cause you grief then - honestly - buy a Corolla.

I traded it in my 2017 Cadillac CTS-V for a 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. The CTS-V was very quick and handled well, but had body fit problems, but worse was the torque converter/transmission problems which came back worse after initial fix, so I traded it in for the Alfa Romeo QV. The Alfa Romeo handles even better--much lighter, quicker response, and more nimble, and the standard seats are much more comfortable than the Recaro racing seats I had in the Cadillac, once I turned the headrest backwards--it's fixed position is too far forward for me--they need a backward adjusting headrest like Genesis, Audi, Mercedes, and maybe others, have. The Alfa Romeo QV is the best handling car I've had since a 1968 Lotus Elan S4 I had over 50 years ago.

Had the pleasure in test driving Veloce version. Very impressed. Compare to similar aged Audi 2.0 S-Line, which has similar 0-62 times, the Guilia Veloce felt more alive. Even for an Alfa die-hard like me, I was blown away. And like most Alfas gorgeous looks. Just wish I had the money.

Between me and my family we have owned practically every BMWs that is out there, except the new M2 competition, which would have been an obvious choice if I didn’t come across the Alfa. I am so glad that I went with Alfa as it makes me so looking forward to drive it every time I step into the car (Race mode almost all the time). Where do you go when your daily driver is an Evora? Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is on the very short list. Porsche 911 (any flavor above Carrera). Struggling to find a BMW that'll work (M3 comp pack, maybe?)- M5 is too luxo barge, although the power is very enjoyable. Audi RS family is in the hunt, but, AMG's C63S is too pedestrian, and- it's too rough handling & truck like. Like I said- really short list if the word budget is used in the same paragraph... 500 HP to the rear wheels, 2.25 turns, lock to lock, genuinely good 8 speed ZF transmission, gorgeous-inside & out- I want one as a daily (4 kids- Evora not an option). MPG's- who cares? I'll never see the low number with that sexy exhaust. Tires are gonna cost a lot, because they're gonna need to be replaced...often.

I know you don't care but, it's something to care about if you're into engines. Having had many high revving high end BMW's in my time, I think I'm going Alpha. There is a dealer 10 miles from me and I think I'm going to do it. I'm sold on the steering, the handling, and the engine. Just gonna need a really good warranty.

It’s an Alfa Romeo of course it’s better, finally people are actually taking a look without the idea that it’s bad before looking. Because everybody watches top gear and have adopted the idea that because it’s an Alfa Romeo that it’s not gonna be good. So for far too long Alfa Romeo had to work it’s way up to zero before any reviews. Again, it’s an Alfa Romeo, where was BMW in Targa Florio, Mille Miglia, LeMans, French, German, Italian Gran Prix’s? Today the showroom has become the real race... and this allows pretty much any marque to sell the idea that a Chevrolet Corvette is just as good as a race proven Ferrari... geeks! @@JayEmmOnCars this has nothing to do with driving involvement. with Zf box, you can also operate in manual mode too by selecting manual mode that you completely take over. then you can have your "involvement". i am driving a bmw now with a manual trans. Previously, i drove an Alfa with selespeed gearbox. it's just as engaging and involving. but the semi box is better. i tested the giulia with Zf auto box and it is just as involving by using manual override. only Americans who have never had advanced autos want to have manuals. they have never seen what advanced autos can do.

SiliconBaseTechnology no. I’m Not trollling. Your thinking is indeed old fashioned. DCT trans is manual with clutch. People simply want manual thinking it’s the most engaging. That’s not true. I drive an old fashioned manual stick shifter. And to say you “dreamed” of this is utter nonsense. For as long as you’re in control of shifting that’s engaging. There is no need to think of a traditional “manual” for the sake that’s most engaging. PDK is indeed “manual” that is better giving you that “involving” feeling and control.
