I remember seeing this car in car magazines back in the 80's. I became completely infatuated with Bertone. All Bertone cars are masterpieces of rolling art. This car doesn't get as much attention as the Stratos Zero does and did. Thank you.

Looks like Bertone's answer to Pininfarina's Modulo. I love the era of duelling designers...no one does that anymore.

I'd much rather have this than the Pininfarina. The Modulo is owned by Ferrari collector James Glickenhaus. Unfortunately I don't know who owns this.

Far, far ahead of its time ... Just imagine this model with LED lighting ?! And now he would be in the top 5! My childhood favorite...

This comes from the way the doors swing up but also have that overhanging edge, sort of like a beetle wing cover, not the actual wing. And the name "Carabo" was derived from the family of beetles known as "Carabidae". They (the designers) also referred to them and Countach doors as "Carabo doors". Beetle wing doors. @@bicyclist2 The amazing Carabo coachwork is by Bertone whose young inspired chief designer was Marcello Gandini who penned this astounding showcar on an Alfa Romeo 33 chassis and powertrain. Giugiaro,as far as I recall,spent his earliest days as a car designer at FIAT,then he had a few years at Bertone coachmaker,then he joined the highly regarded Ghia styling center. I'm pretty sure he was already working by Ghia when the Carabo project got started at Bertone (hope memory serves right).

0:05 The car name's writing itself, shaped like the actual car, with the "a" lifted in order to recall the scissor door, shows how much fucking GENIUS there was around at this times.

Clearly is closely related to the Lancia Stratos prototype. And maybe this was to be a competitor for the BMW M1 indeed.

This is one sexy car. This model (and many other '60s and '70s concept cars) is on my computer screensaver slideshow.

Timeless.

Fun Fact: This is the world's first car to have scissor doors. This car later inspired Feruccio Lamborghini to give the Countach similar doors.

The cars rear name badge is off the scale cool and referenced the original door design debuted in this car. I adore the P400 original Lambo Countach but ima many ways this car is better IMO. The car was a completed idea with back story that birthed this classic. The 33 Zero concept, as well from Gandini via Bertone, was also the height of the car! I’m sure this model was not far off if not 33” as well. GT40 was crazy low and this comes in over half a foot lower is hard to phantom. LOVE the Carabo, Alfa Romeo and Bertone! Forza Italia!

Yes the M1 is a very cool and underrated car. Almost no one nowdays know about theese cars. The youth of today is to bissy with the latest supercars wich mostly are more like computers.

I love old cars! Wow, what happened with technology now in our modern society?! I was born in 1984 but I remember movies and television shows from when growing up in the 1990s where technology was so imaginative in designs. But now it is dull, and only focusing on the computer aspect. :/ Anyways awesome to see this 1968 Alfa Romeo Carabo, wow I had assumed this car as well as the 1970 Lancia Stratos Zero were from the 1980s because of their design! And the doors slide up, in 1968?! And when I was a teenager in early 2000s that is when the slide up doors were popular; which many acted like it was brand new. And this car had them in 1968. Awesome design!

They both have wedge shapes and that's all. The Carabo was first built in 1968, while the Vector began life in 1971

The nose is beautiful.

Not the perfect car; only the prettiest of all. Dome Zero and Lancia Stratos Zero have some advantages, Carabo is more elegant. All three are way lower than modern sport cars: 83 cm Lancia, 100 cm Dome and Alfa, 110-115 cm Aventador, LaFerrari, Veyron.

You may be cool, but are you as cool as Italian prototypes from the '60s to the '80s?
