Alfa Romeo 156 Touring Car || 9.000RPM Legendary STW Monster

Diethard Sternad is still racing his beautiful Alfa Romeo 156 Touring Car to this day and during the difficult 2020 year it was possible to watch the Austrian Racing driver at Skradin Hillclimb in Croatia showing just how fast this FWD machine still is, finishing as the Third Fastest Touring Car overall.
The 310Hp/8.750Rpm 2.0L Naturally Aspirated Monster is one of the fastest FWD machines in the Sport, with its low total weight of 975Kg helping a lot, alongside its X-trac 6-speed Sequential Gearbox. More than that it is also a proper Touring Car from the same mould of all the famous BTCC/ETCC machines from the late 90´s and early 2000´s, that marked pretty much the end of an era of NA, highly tuned, highly developed Touring Car racers that we will probably never see again...

I do hope this type of touring car comes back at some point. There's just something inherently right in showroom saloons being flung about as they do.

@@joe125ful I'd like to think not. Ideas have a habit of coming around again after a time, and 'Let's tune the nuts off a two litre saloon and go racing' isn't such a far out one, that it couldn't come around.

Agreed, and I really like the rear end, looks strong and muscular which fits so well with that stance, reminds me of the Citroën Xsara WRC which also looks gorgeous

Upon hitting the rev limiter, it automatically changed gear, not sure whether only on low gears or all gears

What engine is in this? Sounds more like a 4-cylinder than a Busso V6.

I assume this engine is a heavily modified 2.0 16v TS and since it seems to still be a 2.0 i would think the bore and stroke is the same as the original. Compression is probably higher though

A 2 liter naturally aspirated 4 cylinder Twin spark Alfa romeo engine, with around 300 hp, and a revlimit of 8500 rpm, this rev limit was imposed on all Super touring cars. www.supertouringregister.com/regulations/

No, a 2 liter naturally aspirated 4 cylinder Twin spark engine, with around 300 hp, and a rev limit of 8500 rpm. All Super touring were required to have 2 liter n/a engines so most makes went for 4 cylinders.
As far as I know, this car never raced on the STW-Cup.

No, in Gran Turismo 2 there is a 1993 155 V6 TI DTM (SE052), which is a *very different* car made for FIA "Class 1" regulations, whereas this is an FIA "Class 2" Super Touring car.
