    Sorry to be a downer but there's no way for metal from under the piston to get into the combustion chamber without causing massive damage to bore, piston and rings... that metal must have come from valve guide because that's the only thing with access to top of combustion chamber and clean oil... unless there's no relation between bits of metal in the sump and combustion chamber in which case potentially a failed spark plug or debris coming in through the inlet manifold from something... internal casting or inlet manifold perhaps?

    Small independent garages are the lifeblood of owning cars like this. I had a 166V6 for 6 years and was fortunate to have an independent Alfa specialist close to where I lived. Not sure I would have had it so long if I hadn’t had their expertise on hand. Nothing major went wrong on it, but I could rely on them to keep it in tip top condition. Still miss that car 10 years after I sold it.

    Could you have just taken the sump off in situ without taking the engine out to see the potential damage to bottom end? or as you would need to take the engine out to repair anyway, was it best to inspect with engine out? Great video as usual! Also looking forward to the punto gt update

    Hi, I'm in Australia I want to ask you something, my 147 GTA has Gunk in the surface of the expansion tank just on the corner where the main hose comes in, the coolant is clean, car runs beautifully no overheating, no oil consumption and doesn't use up any coolant, my mechanic who is one of the best indi in Sydney says to leave it and he'll clean the tank on my next service and see how long it takes for the it to come back, he says they all do it and if it gets worse probably have to have to do the head gasket, as it could have a small seepage, car doesn't get used a lot its more of a weekender, have you come across anything similar? Want to get some more feedback, maybe you can do a video on the subject. Cheers.

    Is the piece stuck to the head a collett piece thats broke off and dropped down out of the valve guide? (Sorry for my ignorance but not sure if these engines have them) Unless somebody has dropped something into the spark plug hole and not realised......I cant think how else a piece like that can find another way into the chamber.......great video. Certainly putting in the wrench time on this.

  • @ItaliaAutos

    @ItaliaAutos

    Think its to large to be a collet if it was id imagine compression would of been down on that cylinder. I think something was dropped in when the last garage did the cambelt change shortly after we had an engine knock
