Granted the humor was different back then, but these sitcoms were fucked up. It portrays blacks and South Asians are lesser or cultural aliens to the white man in Britain. If anything it perpetuated racism. I’m blessed to be living in this time than the 70s and 80s could only imagine what people of color went through in England.

My brother and I loved this show. Our mother hated it. I can see it's probably dated now in terms of some of the stuff he came out with, and we probably don't want to normalise that level of overt bigotry, but it was funny social satire. A bit like the Northern Ireland show "Give My Head Peace", or Margary Doors on Little Britain These things can be an outlet for dealing with the taboos around prejudice, and I think laughing at bigots is often a really effective way to challenge them.

It's really immature, like our brainwashed parents and grandparents - willing subjects of The Empire / Commonwealth... Mass invasion ruined everything on the race/culture relations and integration front. Polarisation and social division ensued, as was easily predicted. and now Libs are as racist and sexist as old Cons, hating on white straight males and white 'TERFS' mainly.. Anti-racism and anti-sexism quickly turned into racism and sexism.

Nowadays, people like me have been deprived of all our ammunition and I can't believe that even when a serious situation is being defused, through verbal communication and humour, some fucking fanny is able to waste police time because they've been offended by the language used to? perhaps stop a murder. Offence is taken too 'conveniently' these days! In the days before the strangulation of free speech, there was a poem that my Dad used to recite as he beat me (That is an impromptu, and probably not funny joke to some folk), but not entirely untrue. Sticks and stones will break my bones, but word's will never hurt me. There are TOO MANY folk in this country take offence at what should really be classed as fuck all. Great video. MY GOODNESS!! Just realised! Nobody had to whiten down to play a bigoted, racist, engl/British, misogynistic old fart!! That's done somebody out of ammunition! X

Lovely to hear comments that reflect the comedy and the way the characters work together, it's just comedy at its best, comedy is comedy, it's not demeaning, each character gives as good as they get, why have times changed so much where the laughter has gone

The BLM would scream this is racist and demand its removal! They would brand Alf Garnett a racist. This comedy scene isn't racist. They're all mocking each other. These young people are snowflakes!

Real shit my grandad loved this, all them racist comedies he loved. Alf Garnett is a legend in the black community, stood up for equal rights long before it was vogue, we are always taught that.

Me and me old grandad (god rest his soul) would be in stitches watching this down the local with a couple of pints of London pride. We watched it on our iPhones in the late 80s and said we knew comedy would never be the same after covid. He was black and I was Indian but both born to English parents in London. Nothing wrong with comedy like this, it’s golden: shame no one can have a laugh any more.

I still laugh at it. Nobody will stop me either. The only people who object have no life.
