AlexMic: The best Mic & Speaker for the Elecraft KX3? | K6UDA Radio

Ғылым және технология

I've been holding this review waiting for better propagation. I decided I can't wait for five more years. Today, I took the KX3, an AlexLoop antenna and the AlexMic out into the field on my small motorcycle to test out the AlexMic for this video. Could this be the best mic & speaker for the Elecraft KX3?

QRP videos are like fishing videos. If you see someone in a fishing video pulling fish out one after another one, they probably edited out all of the down time in between. If you only see one fish briefly, it may have come out of a freezer. I'm glad that Bob shows the life of a QPR operator as it often is, a struggle.

Love the analogy. You guys know me, if something works right I'll tell you. When it doesn't I'll show that too. I know some hams will tell me that taking a small radio and a simple mag loop out into the field during the lowest part of this solar cycle is stupid & I'm probably an idiot for trying it but really, if you don't try the hard things then the easy things have no value. At least I got an honest A/B comparison out of it and I've gotta say after hearing the difference on the receive end and Dr. Balun's report on the TX side, This little mic is a big winner and it's earned a permanent spot in my go kit.

Nice video, I am thinking about getting the mic. For your trip I would have taken an Endfed and throw it into the trees, would be lighter and most prob better contacts. continue the good videos, I enjoy them.

I also find it much harder to reach other stations in SSB with my freshly achieved KX2 (which I really like a lot) in comparison to my Xiegu G90. I adjusted mic gain and compression and that seems to be okay. The KX2 says it tx with 10W PEP and the G90 tells about 20W tx power. Does anybody know if the KX2 really has half of the other radios tx-power (especially because the power rating is noted in PEP) or is it maybe less?

Wait, at 6:05, you put your ATU into bypass to tune your loop, you are saying the KX will display SWR in real time? I never knew this. Just googled it and sure enough, there is an article on tuning the AlexLoop this way, complete with macros for the KX3. This little nugget alone is incredible.

I have an AlexMic and it does work but the shape of it is not well fitted to the hand compared to other speaker mics. It is too boxy and not comfortable to my average sized hand. Good product except for that. I have informed Alex re my concerns. I think getting the amplifier and battery into the “box” was the problem. Time to have someone experiment with 3D printing a more comfortable mic case. For an older Duffer like me with impaired hearing it does the job well and I wish I had one for my VX8 in the car.

I think the speaker and internal battery plays a big part in the size and design. It doesn't bother me at all.

Hello David. What I have done with my AlexMic - Considering that I do not need to fix the AlexMic on a belt, I took out four micro screws and the belt clip. This simple idea will make your AlexMic more compact
