In Finland's land of metal, A legend's story was told, Of a guitar god named Alexi, Whose music left us all enthralled. His fingers danced upon the strings, A virtuoso in every way, As Children of Bodom blazed forth, In a sound that was here to stay. With every riff and every lick, He pushed the boundaries of his craft, His talent shining like a beacon, Through every measure and every staff. From "Hatebreeder" to "Follow the Reaper", And beyond to "Are You Dead Yet?", Alexi Laiho's music lives on, A legacy we'll never forget. Though he's left us far too soon, His spirit lives within us all, Through his music and his passion, He'll continue to rock and roll. So let us raise a horn in his honor, And headbang to the sound of his guitar, For Alexi Laiho's legend lives on, A true metal superstar.

Well said. I've played guitar for ~20 years, and Alexi was the guitarist who's style I would have most liked to emulate. He had a masterful ear for melodic metal riffing, and his approach to lead was fairly unique for metal. He would break into free flowing "unabashed guitar wizard" mode during his solos occasionally. His guitar fills were sometimes the same way. His approach to combining melodic metal and flowy guitar playing was, and still is, unrivaled. There are a lot of guitarists who might be faster or have chops just as good, but Alexi's approach to songwriting and the way he played was just...out of this world. I love metal, but guitarists generally are very "on the beat" when it comes to solos. They may very well be 32nd notes, but they're fairly grid oriented (in terms of where the notes fall). They are not very free flowing. Alexi was just....well, I'm repeating myself, but yeah, he was a master at doing exactly what he did.

I remember when I didn't know much about metal, I even referred to the genre as "heavy rock". Well, searching the internet for heavy rock bands (what an idiot) I came across a yahoo recommendation for Children of Bodom. They were my entry into the most extreme metal; my personality received a permanent influence since then. Thanks Alexi, your voice was the first intense scream I heard in my life and back then I was immediately fascinated. You are the reason why I have a taste for gutturals like Arch Enemy’s or Insomnium’s today when before know you I did not tolerate that style.

I hate the comments on this video. He's clearly a great guitarist. He's playing at the EMG studio and has his own signature guitar and pickup. Even if you think this song is easy you ought to admire the fact it sounds good. Music isn't about how many notes you can play in 3 seconds it's about what triggers emotions. More over, that tone. Jesus. The rhythm tone is crazy.

HE was relatable Because he want perfect but you could see he was giving 110 all the goddamned time and as he said in his dvd, you gotta practice a lot. He didnt achieve for technicality although he was pretty god, he achieved for singularity and originality and he truly marked his name in the history of metal.

Had been listening to COB since like 2000-2001, and I could not have been more in love with a band at that time. They were the epitome of everything I wanted to hear in music. Alexi was such a HUGE inspiration, just like Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. The fact that both of these guys could blast away on their axes AND sing at the same time, it's just truly incredible and all around awesome. Don't know why, but tonight it has brought a tear to my eye that Alexi is no longer with us. Never met him, and never got a chance to see them live, but now that's gone forever. I hope his spirit will shred forever, he was truly one of the greatest in the genre, and he will never be forgotten. 😞🤘
