This is such an easy to understand and simple AT lesson, this is the first that actually made sense to me that I can start applying to my life right now. The others videos are, confusing to understand and usually make me fall asleep because the asmr is too relaxing lol.

I really appreciated the video, myself being a student going regulary to AT teacher, it's very intresting to see other people being worked at, and to notice the difference in their performance and to hear their own observations. Truely intresting work! Thanks!

Rebecca does um, but only at the very beginning, once she is in her stride helping students this disappears, so I think it was just a little nervousness. She's a wonderful instructor, anyone she teaches is very blessed to have her help.

An interesting video for YT to choose for me to see after watching an "Initial AT" video!! It's disturbing to watch the upper torso of the instructor be held back with hips forward, and to see her not address the use of the torso in these students, so that it lengthens! Anyone whose interest in AT is piqued here must watch the "CGC" series by (trained AT instructor) by Jeando Masoero.

Higgins_123 You could take it a step further and really torture yourself. Rules are real simple, for every "um" you gotta rub one out and blow your load into a Dora the Explorer cereal bowl (with built in straw). If at any point you are unable to spooge, you gotta drink the contents of the Dora the Explorer cereal bowl (utilizing the built in straw). Then you rest for 5 minutes, and restart the video. Simple, fun, and quite the challenge.

Alexander was a Tasmanian brought up in a family nuts about horses. He learned the concept of" good use" from his family who would deliberately seek out horses which contorted less and moved more freely with less extraneous movement. If you can't see the difference between ease and tension maybe you should not be so sure of yourself. Many flautist and violinists have their careers shortened by pain because it is so easy to get into bad habits with an instrument that demands asymmetry. To learn not to brace is vital to longtime survival as a professional musician

Jennifer Dyster All that may be true, but I fail to see the relevance. For about 3/4 of a century after Darwin published The Descent of Man, the common notion was that the crucial adaptation was the enlargement of the brain and that the rest followed that. However, anthropological discoveries revealed that the truth was diametrically opposite: the crucial adaptation was upright walking (and standing). Humans are the only truly bipedal mammals. The upright (antigravity) posture requires exquisite coordination of bones, muscles and the nervous system which took millions of years of evolution to achieve. The ability to stand and walk upright, like the ability to talk, is inborn in every human being and appears spontaneously without needing to be taught. Even people with bad posture manage to stay upright without falling over. And there's no human bring alive who won't suffer at least transitory back and/or neck pain at some time in their life. As I see it, the benefits of this Alexander technique are prodigiously overstated.

@@JMDinOKC if you watch kids you will note that posture is very good when they were beginning to walk. By 12 yrs of age it's often awful in the West especially , (sedentary pursuits), often improves with development of self esteem (end puberty early adult) : by then a lot of cultural conditioning to do with image overrides an individual's proprioception.Alexander technique and Feldenkreis aim to put people back in touch with finding ease of movement from within instead of complying with demands : chest out head up.chin in belly in no balls at all - the military and ballet oddly enough often produce bad backs. The aches and pains the flesh is their to are a product of use in part. Not all the changes organisms make are beneficial. The selection of good traits does not reside in the individual in the long term.
