I have a grudge against all those in Poland who did nothing! so that Alexander Sinchuk would perform in Poland (another issue is if he would like to !) - instead, we organize International Chopin Competitions in order to promote young, gifted pianists from all around the world !....Well, ok, I have nothing against, but at the same time i ask what it has to do with Great Art ??..every imperfection of those young apprentices of art is immediately audible , all their nervous striving for victory, often full of mistakes, even misclicks and lacking in feeling .. On the other hand, there is Russian Piano School, the best School in the world and we ignore that ???...Why ?? ...the truth is, that Alexander Sinchuk overshadowed everything with his brilliant performance of Rachmaninoff's concertos ! - his performance is perhaps the most important event of the last decade, the display of something that the world rarely has the chance to witness ! Ok, i know the wall is made of concrete

Stunning! Like how Alexander Sinchuk smiles when he hits a wrong note; a healthy sign of a balanced perspective to the whole performance!

Alexander Sinchunk's performance is magnificent from beginning to end.

Rachmaninoff and Sinchuk = divine, unmatched music !.... everybody can hear it in every performance of every concerto

This is my favourite Rachmaninoff's concerto - it's incredibly beautiful, but also incredibly difficult for a pianist - Alexander Sinchuk must have been a wizard here, because no one ! I say No One i've ever heard was able to play this concerto so perfectly ...btw, perfection is perhaps not a sufficient word here, there is something more - we are suddenly immersed in another, magical world filled with the wonderful music....or maybe it's something more than music ? - the voice of heavens ??

I just love when he plays my favorite piece

I don't know how many times I have watched this video. Just wonderful a performance. I like the way Aleksandr plays any pieces; he expresses the music with his fingers, not his face or movement of the body. Well, actually, his face at 39:45 is acceptable though :) The great thing is, even though 'that' unexpected big base note was hit at that climax of the climax of the music, and he made a his nice smile there, the tension of the performance still continued towards the end. Thanks for uploading this great performance.

@@helios-jj2wq When we listen to and watch a number of young Russian pianists on KZread it is quite astounding to realise how many of them attain close to virtuoso-level performance. It's very clear that the Russian training leads to an excellence that is second-to-none. This is true for Sinchuk and he is wonderful to watch. Like everyone, he will mature and improve even further with experience and he will develop his own personal style - we should not expect miracles of every young player. There is a higher level of performance and this is one where, added to tremendous technical excellence, a pianist brings to the music a glimpse of his and the composer's soul and then their music is capable of transporting us to amazement, stupefaction and delight. It has to do with rhythm, touch, emphasis and insight into the composer's intentions and listening to such performers can inspire incredible emotions. But finally, I believe that making comparisons between performers is rather pompous of us, I personally try to avoid it - so many of the Russians, and others, are magnificent; which of them we prefer is a totally personal judgement. There's an English saying : 'comparisons are odious' - it has some truth in it.

@@davidthomas2348 Sometimes you sound here as if you wanted to patronize me, eg when you are saying you don't like comparisons, then you are labeling your lecture with an English saying and you think it should impress me ....Well, all around Latin world there is the same, but better known saying ie "de gustibus non disputandum est ".... besides, no matter whether you like comparisons or not, the truth is , that all the people compare everything and everywhere all the time - that's not only the part of themselves, that's also an indispensable part of any progress .....of course, I agree with you, when you say that every judgement is always personal....and I can't help that I feel the power of music, and Rachmaninoff in particular, just when it's Alexander Sinchuk who plays it and not someone else ! ...btw I also agree with you when you say that Russian Piano School is second to none, something you will find nowhere in the world, simply the best !

@@helios-jj2wq I consider that those who say that X is the unrivaled, best pianist in the world are the one's who patronise, since their view excludes everyone else's by its superlative. Comparisons are invariably shaky at best but superlatives are ridiculous. You could listen to interviews with some of the truly great pianists, Rubinstein, Ashkenazy and others - they refuse comparisons and ratings of their colleagues and accept the notion that it is different interpretations that make music interesting - they even admit to learning from colleagues themselves. No need to be quite so passive aggressive about the issue, Helios. Continue by all means with your exclusivity approach if it's your wish though I believe you'll risk missing lots of splendid contributions from many other talented artists.

He takes 42 minutes to play it. Rachmaninov takes 30. But every second of Rachmaninov was there, with dynamic shading and musicality. His essay of the 2nd was not of the same quality and flat. I even saw a drop of sweat below his sideburn. And he enjoyed it. I’m now a fan. I was lucky to see Horowitz play it with Mehta on the first night at the Chandler from the fifth row, keyboard side. There is no recording I can find of it. Horowitz didn’t rewrite it, even though Rachmaninov had given him permission, but he used so much rubato and shading that I cried through the whole first movement. Here I was filled with joy. Spacebo.

Phenomenal playing. BRAVO!

What a joy to have stumbled on Alexander Sinchuk, whose pianistry is as thrilling as he is handsome - "a sort of Byron ideal of a concert pianist" someone said. Beautiful to watch as he is to hear. For years I thought Kissin, and then Volodos, and then Malofeev but then Bessonov even better than them all but I must say Sinchuk is right up there. Incredible this Central Music School in Moscow, to which I have included in my will, and more splendid pianists coming up including Aksinya Potemkina, whose recently released KZread video of Rach 3 is pretty amazing..... Thank you Alexander for a fabulous performance!

Those who find cavils with this performance need to take a lesson from a Russian audience. It is quite stunning, totally fluid.

If the Russians continue to turn out these magnificent pianists, the rest of the world might as well give up. It seems effortless for him, and every pianist knows how difficult this concerto is, to play. I disagree with some of the tempo changes, simply because I have not heard them before. A great performance! And you are the only pianist I have heard, that plays the second accented triplets in the third movement the way Rachmaninoff intended them to be played as he played them himself. Great playing, and I look forward to hearing much more of your performances. Thank you!

Fantastic! No amateur dramatics, no lank sweating hair just a wonderful performance of this great concerto which has become a sort of obsession with me since I heard it on the radio at the age of 12 years some 50 years ago (Cyril Smith/George Weldon and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra) I now have 157 different performances on CD and many more on LP and 78s and without any doubt, in my mind, Alexander's stellar performance is up there with the very best. Brilliant, well done Mr. Sinchuk, you may have a few equals in performing this difficult concerto but I can count the betters on just one hand!

@@thomasb5714 Thomas, I was not, but my notification system told me i should be ; ) of course there are different audio systems, but out of all my computers, one is evidently the best ! - Realtek HD audio system with equalizer - its dynamics is much higher than this of traditional drivers, also the transmitted frequency is really satisfying, at least when it comes to a classical music, in case of a pop music it sounds too sharp without the equalizator correction, but correction is rather troublesome - of course i use high dynamic earphones also...

@@helios-jj2wq thank you my dear Watson for appreciating the merits of my brain : D - ok, seriously ! - it's something new to me, i must think on it - I live in my own house and generally use a set of speakers, i prefer bass reflection system instead of compacts, i also use a valve pre-amplifier and a solid amplifier, controlling all the characteristics you mentioned, but i must think about a sound driver as well, yes, smart of you ! :D

Alexander Sinchuk is not only the great pianist (imo the greatest contemporary pianist), but also a classy gentleman....so it doesn't suit him to say, what I can say ! and I'm saying as follows - don't emphasize so much the relics of the past - Horovitz, Rubinstein, Ashkenazy were great pianists, that's true ...but time goes on and we should keep pace and have our eyes and ears open !...you don't have to sweep them under the carpet, but please, retain sobriety of your mind - Horovitz is banging on the keyboard at random ? - and what you do ? - Yes ! you are dying of delight, ok, let it be !....but you should also have a courage to say about Alexander Sinchuk what R. Schumann said about Chopin many years ago - Gentlemen ! Chapeau bas ! - that's the genius !

Sinchuk has definitely fewer views than the others - he probably does not take advantage of the paid promotion offered by YT - he is very gifted and I am really impressed - I think it's a perfect performance and it deserves all the awards

There are some attempts here to compare performances of Alexander Sinchuk and A. Malofeev - my reply is : A. Malofeev is a young, gifted man, a prodigy child, as many put it, who, according to them, is the unmatched performer not only of the Rachmaninoff. but also many other great composers (F. Liszt - La Campanella, eg)...Well, can we treat those claims seriously ? - I say No ! - Malofeev is too young and immature to reflect the intricacies of a soul of a composer like Rachmaninoff, personality so complicated, that, in fact, being beyond the reach of so called regular people....Well, the real, great art means much more than technical skills and we should take it for granted ! - with all these intricacies, all this dramaturgy ! - otherwise it's not great art ...but that is something we will not find in Malofeev's performance. Even if we take into account technique, we immediately notice that Malofeev plays many parts in a SIMPLIFIED way and we can find even misclicks...his sound articulation is not sufficiently developed, either. ....OK, never mind, the point is, that someone who takes this young man very seriously, well, he/she either has mentality of a child or maybe he is hunting for sensations like prodigy children eg.....or takes music in some specific, unconventional way. I do not prejudice - maybe in the future A. Malofeev will be a great pianist, however, he still has a long road ahead....as for now, the king is one - his name is Alexander Sinchuk !

@@thomasb5714 btw, the faster the tempo, the greater the risk of this lisping you mention - a tune tends to blurr and it's very difficult to manage with this - only best pianists can play like Alexander Sinchuk - no matter how fast he plays, even very fast staccato, nothing is able to do any harm to the piece he plays - that's absolutely awesome ! - I have never heard something like this before i heard Alexander Sinchuk ! - he is like a jewel in a crown of The Moscow Symphony which is certainly fully aware of it - Alexander is certainly not "for sale"

Elegant performance that seems too careful and restrained. And the conductor was a hindrance, rarely watching the soloist, instead forcing his own tempos on Mr. Sinchuk. Paremski, Malofeev, Horowitz, and Gravylyuk all give exciting performances that I wish this one did. Elegant, but too cautious.

....У таких УНИКАЛЬНЫХ виртуозов ,да в этом возрасте, механика --всегда основа.... Этим и удивляет! Он как бы НЕ ПОГРУЖАЕТСЯ , не затрачивается...А звучит --то ВСЕ, и прослушано хорошо!

Magnificent performance; terrible videography. When the soloist is playing difficult passages, and especially the finale, people want to see his hands, not his face.

I agree absolutly. The pianist is really great. The cameramen knows nothing about music.

Needs to have lessons with Ashkenazy.

No, seriously! He has great hands, but no idea about the music. Sign of the times: develop the tools, but neglect the spiritual message. Mr. Groos, you reveal your true nature through your choice of words; pity.

@@EmptyVee00000 Coming from another pianist who has played this piece, I feel you have an Ashkenazy complex, not a musical one. How would it feel if I said i think Ashkenazy's performance had no musicality what-so-ever? Although I hate using the term, I feel extremely offended that you would think this performance is anything less than amazing. The cadenza alone is more powerful than many other full performances by many other pianists, but I'm not going to stand here and try to tell other pianists that they should be, "Less like themselves and more like Sinchuk". How stupid of advice is that to give someone? Very. There are an infinite amount of ways to play this kind of music and some prefer one over the other. Stop trying to pretend like there is a definitive way to play such interpretative music. I would like to hear exactly what Alexander did "wrong" during this performance for you to have the nerve to say such a dumb thing. There is an obvious reason why this video has a %100 like ratio.

Zoink Saying that Ashkenazy “has no musicality” is like saying the Earth is flat; it would feel very strange to hear someone say such things, but it would be nothing to dwell on.

@@EmptyVee00000 I assume you just realized you proved yourself wrong with the last reply that you just deleted. I think this conversation is over. Hopefully you become less self-absorbed in the future and realize the separate beauty of (B) class pianists and not just strictly go by (A) class pianists. Not as one to normally name call, but in the spirit of one that might be called a "Sheet Slave" you, my friend, are an "(A) class slave". (doesn't really roll off the tongue too well, does it)

Zoink I must confess that I do not understand the latter part of your last comment. As for my deleting what I first wrote in my previous comment, it was the result of my inability to “paste” what I mistakenly “cut” (iPhone keyboard blues) from the text (about 90%) when attempting to correct a syntax error; I decided it was not worth the effort of writing it up anew, so I deleted the remaining 10% and wrote something different. Anyhow, Sinchuk has great hands - Daniel, whom I know, taught him well to play the piano - and I wish him all success. And, yes, my passion for great music, and great music, is enslaving, so maybe that is what you were getting at in your, not-quite-inoffensive, comment. Cheers!

Did he hit all the notes, yep! That's as much as can be said for this performance! Dry and lacking in musicality!!
