Alexander Payne is a gem. I could watch Sideways once a week.
It's so heartwarming seeing Alexander's success. I knew him as a film student when I worked at UCLA's Film Department.
Of course it's brilliant. Very atmospheric, every detail of the era is described with amazing precision and love. The beginning immediately plunges you into the idyll of the film masterpieces of the early 1970s with their social realism and moral purity. Both the shaking of the credits on the screen and the entire technical ambiance of the films of the 70s greatly detail this masterpiece and make it truly authentic. Against the backdrop of the slop movies of today, this film seems like an echo of a paradise gone forever.
Is there the full conversation available anywhere?
I have yet to see this film. So I don’t want to watch the interview until after we’ve seen it. I will hopefully have access to it at a later time or date.

See it!! I loved it, watched it the other night after seeing Paul Giamatti and Da'vine Joy Randolph win Golden Globe awards for their performances. Paul Giamatti especially is perfect in The Holdovers

My favorite film of the year. It had rich characterization, relatability and good structure. I recommend that everyone see this soon. The trailer with its 1970s film tropes hooked me last autumn, but I was already in because of Payne and Giamatti. Having now enjoyed the film, I see so much to celebrate.
I’m Kirby.
