Alexander O'Neal - Criticize (Leppardized Guitar Cover)
Музыка
Many of you may know my love for Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis productions, and of course, the legendary Alexander O'Neal is no exception. Although this song isn't penned by Jimmy and Terry, it still fits amazingly well on the album Hearsay. I've been wanting to do this one for awhile and finally found some parts that I think fit better but most of my added 'Leppardizations' are mimicking what's already there in the keyboards and bass. Kinda like how I covered Jane Child's 'Don't Wanna Fall in Love. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
'Leppardized' is my way of adding interesting guitar parts to a song that has little to no guitar in it, in an attempt to make it more like the Hysteria era of Def Leppard. Although really it is just an excuse for me to play over pop. :)

I swear...if I ever did this one on stage, I would so have you on stage with me as the r&b Richie Sambora or Neil Giraldo. You're a dynamite axe - man!
Alexander O'Neal isn't well known outside of Urban Contemporary circles, but he's fantastic. Excellent choice.

After this I'm looking him up.
This cover is a perfect example of how you can add guitar to a song that has little to no guitar in it. I love the arrangement you gave it and both the guitar solos are tasty, melodic, and perfectly executed. Fantastic cover. Love this song too.
God this is Fucking awesome. Just took the boys out on the lake and we were bumping this on the boat drinking tequila and pulling up to play beach volleyball at one of the party coves. I’m 24 been playing guitar forever and love the 80s vibe and style.
You are hands down my favorite guitarist on KZread. I’m an 80s kid and you just honor that period. Thank you for sharing your talent. Just beautiful what you do.

Agree with Mr. Scott...bust out the pastels and the Wayfarers Crockett and Tubbs style...awesome version again...I gotta go find some Jan Hammer now 👍🤘🤘🤘✌️🤟🍻
Something about the 80's. But I think I'm a bit marred by the wonderful experience of it all! 🙂
This is a great example of 80s for you to work your magic on & you did it again 110%
Absolute Banger!
Nice to see, that you polished this old tune. Thank you! 👍
This is banging. It's a classic and you've taken it to another level with this, nice one.

❤❤❤❤ I love the ending. Super cool cover
Awesome stuff... I enjoy all your guitar videos 👍
Huge fan of Alexander O'Neal! This is just absolutely fantastic! I too am also a fan of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis! The essential 80's sound (I my opinion). I would have loved to have this version on an album release! More like this please!

Thanks! I’ve covered Janet Jackson’s Black Cat and although it’s not strictly Jam and Lewis songwriting, it may still be of interest to you. Cheers!
A belter of a tune, and a banger of a guitar addition. Nice work dude.

Well done! You’ve always managed to pull out the best songs.
Oh god. I thought at first, hmm, tough one. But then it just got better and better. And towards the end it was mind blowing. Absolute respect. You are amazing. And another song that I also love. We have such a similar taste! Wasn't expecting this but you totally pulled it off.

The bit at 3.17 up to the drum break like that's the build up for a complete breakdown of the instruments to hold their own individually then come back together

Criticize is one of my most favorite tunes of the 80s. As a DL fan and an occasional guitar player, if I had your skills I'd do the same kind of cover.🥰

Back one year later to add I'm no longer an occasional guitar player. Since listening to you and a few other inspiring KZreadrs out there, I'm now playing and learning guitar every single day. Thank you for all the inspiration you provided, you are beyond talented!😎
Amazing. Perfect solo as always!
Fantastic ❤️
That is class!! Top drawer!!
Trippy, I just started listening to this song again for the beat because of my love for 808’s after a few years of knowing it from GTA IV. Almost like you knew 😂
your Leppardized catalog always made me impress
This is my first time hearing this song, but you made this song rock! Great job!
First! Great song!!! The 80s man. People went "ahhhht" out 🍹
I prefer this over the original to be honest. Great job!
Awesome cover!
Nice work!
Class this could have come straight from Miami Vice 👌🏻😎👌🏻😎👌🏻
Great stuff as always! I would imagine a certain new album of covers are on the way from you soon...looking forward to that!

Thanks! Haha, they will be coming but there’s too many songs to digest. I think I’d cope better if they just kept releasing singles 😅.
Thank you so much for doing this cover. Well done.

never heard this song before, but its pretty sweet.
❤❤❤❤ dope cover
I had this CD when it First came out
Alexander O'Neal is such a gem! He should've been bigger in his prime! His voice, and killer slow jams of the 80's were definitely notable amongst that of the Motown revival that took place in the 80s-early 90's. The album Hearsay is so good! Please, if you can do a rendition of the title track "Hearsay". One of my personal favorites of Alex O'Neal is "If You Were Here Tonight". Great rendition, and phrasing/soloing!

It's funny really, I like any good music, mainly hard rock and AOR, but I'll listen to anything that is good. Be it soul, Jamiroquai, Nile Rodgers etc. I love this track. I'm well over 50 years old, you're a lot younger. It's about our ears.. BTW how is Super Monaco going? ATB Nick..
Excellent execution, could play Lay your hands on me by Bon Jovi!
YES
This is sooo brlliant. I always have this kinda of ideas to songs that apparently have nothing to do with others. I even can hear Joe Elliott singing this hahaha :)

Listened to this song for the very first time yesterday (of course your version that is). Just listened to the song itself on Spotify and although it's pretty good, I like your version better. Glad I listened to your Leppardized rendition first. Watched this right after watching your video for Steve Winwood's Valerie. Dude keep up the grind, you make all these legendary songs even more legendary. I salute you brother🤘🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hearing this tune for the first time... but I'm certain that this Leppardized version is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than the original one.

Certainly will be expanding on the Leppardized stuff. I’m a big fan of Jam and Lewis so their productions will be sure to feature a lot.
Didn't know this one. A really great one, but I'm sure a lot more exciting due to your guitar work. How do You make this picture with You in the front and the cover art in the background? The picture You see before entering the video.
