Agreed, I wouldn’t want to play anymore either without my brother either especially that it’s Eddie who wrote all the iconic music and can’t be replace by anyone . End of the day respect his choice and leave him be.

The part about Alex's loss of desire to make music is understandable, if deeply saddening. The part about dishonoring Eddie's memory doesn't make sense to me. Does it honor or dishonor the memory of Mozart or Beethoven to have their brilliant music played in a concert? We're lucky to have 3/4 of all 4 lineups of Van Halen alive to honor Eddie. I'll be in the stands at the Jersey Shore to see Sammy, Mike, Joe & Jason play those songs that made me get serious about the guitar when I was a teenager. Van Halen's 2nd lineup changed my life!

I hate misleading titles. There is absolutely nothing in this click bait bit to indicate Alex even talked with anyone about why since Ed passed.

Alex and Eddie Van halen were close tight and were brothers. They started playing music together. They stated Van Halen together. Once Eddie died so did Van Halen. Alex decided he's done end of story. Wolfgang is doing his own thing with his own band and is doing awesome. If you want Van Halen to continue in your life. There are plenty of albums, songs and video to watch. As much as we want things to last forever. They dont. So cut them some slack and leave them alone give it a rest. Though you can always do what i do. I listen to thier stuff in my vehicle on the way to work and get the same happy feeling of thier music like it was the first time. Even though ive heard it a million times. Enjoy the journy of the day and keep rockin the awesomeness.

Who gives a shit? Eddie Van Halen isn't the end all be all. Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani are enough in their own right. In fact, eddie became Boeing and overplayed. He never evolved, he actually became over the years. As for Alex, he may need a good drummer, but he's unremarkable to most People.

It is amazing that me @17 saw VH 3x, including their 1st headlining tour. I grew up with them and remember the chemistry between the 4 members. That era, sadly, has passed. We are lucky to have all that glorious vinyl to listen to 40 years later. RIP Eddie ❤❤

They are. A very dysfunctional group of guys. If it wasn't for music, they would be enemies. It is sad. But at the same time I fully understand Alex. Except that Sammy has never called it a "reunion tour". It's a tribute tour to EVH. Satch does not purport to be Ed and Jason does not purport to be Alex, but they both are accomplished musicians with tremendous talent. You must not follow music very closely. Sammy's time spent in VH was just a portion of a successful career. He was in Montrose. He had a great stint as a solo artist and was a member of various groups after Van Halen, most notably Chickenfoot. I saw VH 4X, 3 with DLR and once with Sammy. Don't get your panties in a wad. Sammy isn't calling the effort a "reunion". It's supposed to be an homage to the late, great Eddie Van Halen.

He really appreciates it. It gives him joy. Dude not jaded at all. He's a super fun, uplifting and humorous guy. I wish Sammy would stop portraying him otherwise.

I went to the show in Atlanta. 5th time seeing Sammy. It was phenominal. But it was also bitter sweet.

Don't blame him. God Bless him. Always loved Sammy since Montrose. I saw Sammy and The Circle with Jason Bonham a few years back. They did so many Zeppelin covers that were amazing.

Here’s my thought! To replace a lead singer in a band near impossible! But replacing the guitarist not as much! Everyone GRIEVES their own way! Some soldier on some dont! I saw the tour last night and everyone KICKED ASS!!👍🎸🎤

The only band he's played in was van Halen and I don't blame him one bit, it wouldn't be right without Eddie and its time for him to retire and he deserves it and as a fan of all eras, I wish him all the best in whatever he does from here on.

To all the fools commenting. Sammy does short tours every year which heavily feature Van Halen songs. Only difference with this one is they actually took time to rehearse a full show. Usually when he's solo it looks like he's winging it at times.

as a fellow musician I understand the bond you make with a band member musically, when they leave the band it's never the same - that must be kicked up tenfold by also being brothers. ac / dc almost did the same thing when Malcom passed, and I think so did the bass player from Nirvana, just to name a few - it's pretty common for one musician to inspire and actually be the reason for another musician to play, and when that influence is gone then so is the desire to play.

God bless Alex. He's been to the top of the Mt. Rock n roll is not his Savior.

Eventhough Eddie & Sammy made amends months before Eddie's death,I feel like all the shit Sammy said about Eddie when he was at his worst,both physically & mentally,is the primary reason why Alex won't talk/associate with Sammy. IMO,Its just something that he is never gonna forgive Sammy for.

Al has lost his brother and his best friend. People grieve in their own time in their own way. There is no Van Halen without Eddie and Al. The only person I can ever see standing up there on stage in Eddie's shoes would be his son Wolfgang and no doubt Wolfgang is also grieving after the loss of this father. Huge loss to lose your Father and Your best friend. Jason Bonham is a great drummer taking after his father John Bonham. Satriani is a great guitarist, no doubt, but Van Halen brothers are missing, so sadly there is no Van Halen.

With so many authentic VH tributes out there I'm not completely clear why they are even doing this. Oh yea $$$$$

The Van Halen fans are the ones that will miss by not seeing Alex or Wolfe on this tour. I’m sure it will still be great, but not as great as it could have been.

I’m pretty sure Al just auctioned off all his drum gear so clearly he has no intention of playing at all anytime soon

@@rickgray2465 Probably because no musician, especially those who experience world-renowned popularity year-after-year, would ever completely leave themselves without some form of gear to [at least] play once in a while, if only on their own in a private situation. I have no proof, but I too believe Al would NOT have sold ALL of his gear... he loved playing far too much. I could never get rid of all of my gear. If I didn't have a guitar around for -- even for simple personal enjoyment -- I would possibly lose the rest of what's left of my mind. I'd have to have at least one "little friend" around to comfort me and take me away from life's BS when it gets to be too much. I would bet almost anything Al still has a kit somewhere... no matter how large or small. No proof yet... only my .02 cents!

He would say 'I always knew that this piece of wood with 6 strings would never hurt me. Unlike other people , or girlfriends, or management, or contemporaries...I could express my emotions through it and let it all come flowing out into something creative'....I felt like that too when I was 16-17 when I'd been through the painful bullying hell of 6 years of English Private school...That's why when I read ED talking about this stuff in his interviews I empathized with him so much. Profound grief? Unimaginable without Eddie? Bullshit. Eddie has been dead for almost half a decade. Alex is too damn old and burned out from decades of alcoholism and drug abuse. At almost 73 years old, he is no longer mentally or physically capable of playing a full VH set anymore. Plus, he is still pissed off at Hagar and Anthony for stupid shit from 30 years ago. Wolfgang Van Halen isn't going to join because he doesn't want to make his favorite Uncle Alex look like an even bigger asshole than he already is....That is the real reason and we all know it.

Today I had an idea. Thoughts please. Alex lost his brother. Rush lost Neil, also like a brother to them. They all lost someone very close and unreplaceable. How about Alex join up with Alex and Geddy. Not a VH or Rush but a different name and do their own thing. Maybe throw in some old material during concerts. It was just a thought and the bit where VH was banded from being around Rush. Well it's time to move on.
