Alex Ovechkin's 56 Goals In 2008-09 (HD)

Спорт

After an incredible 65-goal 2007-08 season, Ovechkin more than failed to live up to expectations early on in 2008-09. Through his first 11 games he had just 2 goals, both came way back in his second game of the year. In late October he also missed 2 games to visit his sick grandfather in Russia which may have contributed to his slump. A goal in game #12 vs. Tampa broke the funk and started a 5-game goal streak and stretch 54 goals in the last 68 games of the season (a 65-goal pace over 82 games). Ovechkin's 110 points placed second behind countryman Evgeni Malkin (113). At the time it was the highest points per game (1.39) of his career. He wrapped up the season at the 2009 NHL Awards with his second consecutive Hart, Lester B. Pearson/Ted Lindsay, and Rocket Richard Trophies.

Favorite part was watching all of the goal celebrations. At least half of those goals everyone was jumping into the celebratory hug which really showed how close this group was.

I believe he was in his prime in his first 5 seasons in the league, he was so explosive and reckless. Which is probably why he slowed down a lot after that. Still managed to find ways to score 50+ a season though lol
