Oh God, I die. I can not believe the huge change they've made to Alegría. The costumes, the stage, the music, the melody, everything. Ah it was very beautiful, and although there are still more changes, nothing will get me out of my heart the Alegria of 1994. Grande Cirque Si Soleil. 😍😍😍😚😚👐👏👏👏👏👏

Energy? Watch the original Power Track act. Now THAT was energy! I'm hoping that act will get better with time because it was truly one of the best acts in the original production and this just seemed very sparse and lacking. More dancing then actual high-octane tumbling. A big let down. Not that they aren't talented. It truly comes down to direction and choreography. It needs some help and a truly visionary tumbling coach and choreographer like the original had.

Cirque Du Soleil's acts today are no longer as impactful as they were 20 years ago. I say the same for the songs. It seems to me that the Monte Carlo circus is better in the creativity of the acts

Alegria cuenta una historia, y aquí sólo te han mostrado una parte. Como toda historia tiene sus tramas, con altibajos, para expresar diferentes aspectos y diferentes sensaciones... No te van a poner todo el show, tendras q ir a una funcion para verlo completo ademas en una pantalla no se siente como en vivo

Esto no es el circo tradicional, esto está ambientado en la escenografía, baile, teatro ... Si no entiendes de ello no lo vas a entender nunca que esto que hacen es ARTE, MAGIA, PUREZA, INSPIRACIÓN ....

I went and saw this opening night and was so amazed! I grew up watching Cirque videos and was so grateful to actually see it in person. Did not disappoint. The magic really is there under the big top!

There's something about this art, which is so beautiful, that always brings tears in my eyes.

I went to see the show with my mother, I bring her to the show as her birthday gift because her birthday are in May when they launch the new show at MTL and she loved it and appreciated a lot, Congrasts to The New Alegria Crews Members ;-) (y)

Soy fan de Alegría y ayer por fin tuve la oportunidad de ver este nuevo show en Toronto y la verdad es increíble, la música y todo, no se dejen llevar por un vídeo de KZread, no es nada comparado a cuando lo ves en vivo, las cantantes cantan increíble. Esto no es Alegría de antes, es uno nuevo basado en el antiguo.

Just came from watching the Luzia show in Queens, NY... it was amazing and breathtakingly. I was sitting front row! It was like a dream! It was breathtaking. I clap nonstop... I screamed and screamed. Thank you for gifting us with your talent. I hope to go next year as well... I don’t know what show we will be having but I will there :)

To all the people criticizing and hating, Have you actually seen the show live? I've seen both the original and the new one and I went into this one super skeptical. At the same time I knew it was gonna be different. I was blown away. They kept the true essence of the original Alegria but brought it into the 21st century. The acts were wonderful and the updated music fantastic not to mention the amazing singers. Open your mind for change. This show kills it.

I saw the show last month in Toronto and it is still amazing. I think we should stop living from the past (which is great) but also appreciate what we have now. This is still an amazing work and I guarantee that there is not a single soul that watching this show "live" doesn't feel awestruck.

My first interaction with this show was meeting one of the performers, Thomas Chilvers, and his perspective on performing was really nice for me, and that can be seen in the show.

Honestly, after seeing it in Houston, it was amazing. I’m one of the newer generations seeing it, so i might be a bit biased, but I absolutely loved it. The music was great in my opinion, the acts were amazing and kept me of the edge of my seat, the costumes were amazing, and the echoing of the singing and music makes it 10x better then it already is.

I wonder what Franco Dragone is thinking about this remake of the original masterpiece show he created and directed back in 1994. Hope Cirque at least still pays him royalties for the creation of Alegria. Without Dragone's vision, creation and direction, Cirque wouldn't be the global phenomenon that it is today.

Looks fantastic. Can not wait to see the whole show.....

i´m happy that Querer is performed in full, they gave the song what it deserved

For me the overall tone feels colder and a little darker / more sinister. The original Alegria was like a journey into this bright land of hope and imagination. It feels like coming back only to find the land of Alegria has fallen to shadows. This isn't a bad thing to me, though. I like that there has been a development, almost as if the ringmaster character has placed his influence into the world, twisting it to fit his whims. The costumes and set all feel familiar, but warped and decayed. Musically that same has happened. It's all music we know, but that tonal shift in the environment / inhabitants has become mirrored in the soundscape. I'd be really intrigued to see if the show were to return to that traditional sound of the hopeful Alegria toward the end, and forming a loose narrative that old fans will recognise as a return and newcomers will see as an optimistic evolution throughout the show. Granted it's not for everyone, but I'm certainly intrigued and look forward to some touring dates.

Can't wait to see this live

Definitly a new take. The music has way more bass and is not as complex as older versions. But the new action is definitly closer to the actual times and the music still has a lot from the old Alegria. Yet, it's not really baroque. I'm actually not really sure what it wants to be, because it feels a little colder. At last the last act number 2 and 3. (3 acts) But yeah, it's such a strange mix I'm really not sure what Alegria is or wants to be. Act number 1 in this video combines so many cool things at once. It's really fun to watch and the ring is innovative. I like the new take on the music a lot, too, in this take.

I really really like what they did to the music! (just found the new playlist on spotify :)) For the sound of it, it looks like they put together a very different show. They turned cerceaux into such a badass song and the alegria versions sound sooo melancholic! Can't wait to see how they go along with the acts! And for all of you who are disappointed...I understand, the original Alegria was next to perfect! But as I see it... to have two different Alegria shows is better than having only one or none :)

I also saw the original Alegria in 1994... it was so magical. I was 12 years old. I have to say, I attended this show as well and it was spectacular in person. This video does not give the same effect as being there!

Some thoughts about Alegria In A New Light. The WORST: Really?!? OMG! Using the transcendent FLYING MAN song Malioumba during the messy setup of russian bars was utterly DISAPPOINTING and throwaway. Even the Black and White Singers should have been walking towards each other at stage-front to distract from the setup rather than standing in the back. The flying man from the original Alegria was an emotional and wonderous piece, very refined. The Best: DUO STRAPS - The best act and musical pairing and an amazing version of Alegria. At first when I heard the song, I said why not just have it solely at the finale instead of with an ACT. Wrong! I was blown away, and even had wet eyes. It was quite emotional and powerful. The choreography and the duet of black and white singers. Amazing! The Good: Most of the variations on the Alegria soundtrack are good. I can compliment the music, singers, lighting, and the physicality of the acts. DUO Trapeze - Vai Vedrai has an amazing instrumental segment that works so well and captivates. HULA HOOPS - Amazing as the original, however the song Ibis made the act feel more linear than it was with Cerceaux. The end with the many hoops spinning around the body lacked the musical climax from Cerceaux. SNOWSTORM - Good of course. The Meh: Some songs dont work as well as the original with their new respective acts. The stage design was very static and I expected more surprises like water/cutout curtain/flowers/sun from Luzia. RUSSIAN BARS - The beginning and transition to russian bars was abrupt and disjointed. The act itself was fine. FIRE DANCE - The extras in the black jumpsuits during the act was very out of place and distracting. At least have them in other costumes, anything but THAT. The stage lighting should have had more red/orange with dynamic movement/flashing/strobing, rather than just static blue. HANDBALANCING - Further emphasizes how genius the contortion duo and the song Taruka from the original production were. The original contortion exuded an aura of mood, mystery, suspense and emotion. This handbalancing matched the awe of neither the handbalancing in Varekai nor Dralion, and the new version of Taruka lacked the crescendo and magical 30 second climax of the original. Overall, Alegria In A New Light lacked some of the refinement, smooth transitions, moments, and creative choices that made the original so beloved and successful. I was expecting more drastic new elements but still think it is worth checking out even if you have seen the original.

este circo a estado en mi vida desde mi infancia, jamas olvidare sus excelentes actuaciones, vestimenta y maquillaje, la excelencia en la pista, no solo de sus artistas sono del grupo de sonido y cantantes, ademas de la manera magica en que adornaban la pista, hoy estoy triste de ver en lo que se a convertido, tuve que quitar el sonido para poder disfrutar la actuacion de los trapecistas

Falta el acordeón en varias canciones, el acordeón le daba un toque diferente a las canciones de alegria.

Al menos tomaron en cuenta la canción "querer" ya que en alegría (mas antiguo ) no era muy conocida y duraba poco, aunque yo la pondría en otro acto, en el trapecio no se veía mal pero prefiero dejar vai vedrai en el trapecio 😊

Big fan of Alegria. Actually worked on the first North American tour. I think they butchered some of the music. I wish the they would have stuck to some of the original style of the music. The artist are amazing as expected! I wish the vocals were stronger. I had to turn some of it down on the high notes. I'm sorry.

As to the music, Cirque has apparently gotten rid of the 'live' band ion various shows with awful, if not catastrophic, results. The electronic music we hear in this clip is proof of this decline to save thousands of dollars of real professional musicians who, once, were the pride of the Cirque

you all complaining about cyr wheel like whew, can't relate! it's one of my favourites and i could watch an entire show just of it, besides this double one was a reeeally cool refreshment and i bet its super heavy so that guy got mad skills! also glad to know there's two acts with valsapena, and i really liked kalandero! we're never getting another francesca sure, and this lady got some real good vibrattos but its like her voice is too jovial? ALSO THE FAST TRACK WAS NUTS! ya'll complaining like ''they slipped'', well you try tumbling THAT FAST and see if you're not gonna slip too, they could easily fly off the stage :/ do i miss the barroque and the acordion? yes, a lot, and its undeniable that the ''modern'' aspect doesn't fits og alegria, but y'know, new takes! the old show is always there to watch so how about trying to watch this without the nostalgia glasses on?

Just watched Cirque Du Soleil : Algeria, on television, wow! What talent never mind the musical talent! All working together for a show of a lifetime. Amazing, I could live a lifetime just watching and listening to show. 💖👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

I have watched the video |Life Behind the Scenes in CdS" just before this one and had high expectations on what the show would be like. I didn't agree with the musical changes since I consider the track as a classic as so many people do (when Beethovens' 5th is performed you also don't change the score). So I would have kept the original. I felt the heart is taken out of it now. Don't like this version. Giving the performers more of their own face in the makeup is not a bad idea in general, but the magic of Alegria lays in large part in the makeup of the performers and the fact that you don't immediately recognise the performer. It make a completely new character. I think that the artistic direction had a little too much fantasy. I would have kept the original music score, designed new makeup and costumes but with the same strong points as in the original one - in other words, keep the magic. This was disappointing for me.

I miss the old Cirque when it was about the art, emotion, and quality of the performance and the performers. It was about giving something magical to the audience. Now it's just veered so far to the franchise and hiring as many acrobats as they can to pump out as many shows as they can. And now they've taken a beautiful piece of their history and provided no justice to the original. It's like raising the dead. The body is there, but what's inside cannot return.

This is like Power Track Jr. Mostly dancing and not enough tumbling. The original had so much energy and spectacle. This just felt kind of lazy and watered down. Hopefully this act will be updated as I know this was only a first look and Cirque is always improving their acts as the show goes on, but this didn't make me excited to see it.

wow- I saw this show yesterday- my first ever Cirque du Soleil and I was entranced. I'm sorry this performance made so many people miserable but that was not evident to me yesterday. I was not alone in my joy in the experience. There was a huge standing ovation and many happy people. But I didn't come in with any preconceptions. hmm.

Happens a lot to people who have only seen CdS in DVD. Live is even more amazing, and what appears dull is actually pretty cool too. Sorry for those stuck in the past, but's been 25 years since Alegría. This should be a nice, modern tribute to it. I hope I can see it live soon.

@@disco.lemonade The original production, which did have updates over its 20 year run, ended only 7 years ago. It isn't like it is something I only remember from my childhood. I was lucky enough to see it many times over the years. I was very excited to see it coming back and it was disappointing to go in and see this version. There were some great things for sure. But compared to the original it had none of the heart and true magic that the original inspired.

I saw it live and still loved it!

The changed soundtrack really let us asking for more. The baroque aspect is completely gone and without some key instruments (like the accordion) it just lacks that Alegría sprit that we loved! I think it's great that the show got revamped and is returning, but the soundtrack is really a miss for me and for many here, it's just not as strong. PowerTrack was such a powerful and intriguing track, but it has lost its magic…

That first song for the wheel act is Kunya Sobe from Mystere. They butchered/recycled it and put it in Alegria. Completely unacceptable
