Every time I listen to this, or sing along I sing the first chorus as "it finds me", second as "defines me", and third as "refines me". I found out that those aren't the actual lyrics lol, but I still sing them that way, bc I relate to them. I think a large part of personal development is excepting your demons. At first, you're terrified that they will find you, then you think that bad things that happened to you, or that you did, define you. Then, finally, you let those experiences refine you for the future.

The way Alec has a relatable song for every feeling I have is incredible. He's extremely talented and I hope he gets the recognition he deserves

I used to listen to this song on repeat when it came out and i was depressed, it feels so good to come back and remember everything and be grateful it's okay now

When I first heard this song and read the lyrics, I could not believe how relatable this was in my life. I grew up in California all my life, and we decided to move to Hawaii two years ago. I let go of my friends, ghosted some of them because we left pretty sudden. I thought I'd have a better time where I live now, but it was the same all over again. Long story short, I realized no matter where I go, if it's a new country, school, etc, I can't change who I am or fake a new personality. Now I really miss my old home. "You can run from anyone but yourself."

His voice and talent never fail to amaze me. I mean, I geniunely think nobody would ever dislike him for a valid reason. THANK U FOR ANOTHER TIMELESS BOP ALEC

Every kid has tried to excape their shadow honestly. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's scary but eventually we learn that it's impossible to get rid of it and just learn to live with it.

Our shadows exist whenever there's light. It follows us wherever we go and it can be daunting, creepy and even haunting to think about. The moment we turn away from the light we come face to face with our shadow. However, if we face the light our shadows will be behind us, even walking along side us but as long as we're marching forward with our head held high facing the light the shadow can never ever be ahead of us, it can never overtake us. Seek out the light in any situation and follow it with your chin up and face it.

I find Alec’s music so special as I feel many people (myself included) are able to relate in some way or another, to the feelings he’s singing about. Listening to his songs, it’s soothing to know that I’m not alone in my struggles and his songs are something I can hold onto when the times get tough and I need some reassurance. 🥺 I’m so extremely excited for the new album ❤️

Okay wow. Not only is this music video really cool, the song is so addictive. The chorus was stuck in my head all day. I took several tests today and all I hear is: “everywhere I go, my shadow, it follows behind. Doesn’t matter where I travel, my shadow, it finds me” 😂

The way the light would move (especially in the room with the piano) was a very nice touch. It felt (for me) that it was like a symbol to time passing, insinuating that as time passes you still can't escape. You're left with just your shadow because (as said in the song) he moved away and ghosted people so he didn't have anyone to talk to but even so there was something lingering inside that reminds him of everything. Everything you do follows you like a shadow and it will be there forever whether in the dark or brought to light. Very well done.

things have really sucked for me lately i wont lie, and this song just describes it perfectly tbh. it is literally why alec is my favorite artist. not bc i think he has the best voice in the world or the best music or whatever, but bc he writes abt real issues, feelings, and thoughts and i can always relate to it. each song hits so hard in a good and bad way. it makes me wanna cry and let all my emotions out while also dance around the room blasting his songs. i am in love with this song and i truly will forever be in love with alec and his music. it saves me in a way everyone deserves to be saved. thank you for everything alec, and truly thank you for another song that hits in just the perfect way.

Alec Benjamin's music has helped me so much. The songs are so relatable and they comfort me when I need them. I'm eternally grateful that I exist in the same time period as an artist like him.

This video is basically how i look whenever i listen to this song. The bobbing of the head, alone in a room, and acting like i’m in a music video.

This song is really underrated never heard this on the radio but it's a wonderful song that actually would do good if they played it here in Belgium

When Alec says his shadows follows him he's trying to convey that constant of fear of failure or depression can't leave him as easily people think so. I can assure that it's not as people think and that fear will not leave you easily
