Red cabbage & apples is a pickled, German side dish usually served with pork chops. Or any kind of meat, fish or poultry. My great grandmother used to make it and can it for winter. Delicious! It's not used like saurkraut at all. It is its' own side dish.

When my mom makes the apple red cabbage we just eat it as a side, usually with a smoked sausage.

I use the red cabbage & apple in a pork roast recipe. Pork takes sweet well. The original recipe called for sauerkraut and a beer. I use the red cabbage & apple and a can of pepsi instead. Cook it in the instapot. So good

The red cabbage and apple is eaten as a side dish kinda like coleslaw or potato salad. The apple helps it from stinking really bad.
