I'm 16 hours sober, and this video has helped tremendously. I've recently just resigned from a remote position which I despised, as it was tremendously isolating and I found myself drinking cheap sugary boxed wine all day, every day, on the job... constantly telling myself I'd quit the next day (which I never did). There are no longer any excuses. The way you described the symptoms just now is spot on for me... I barely have the energy to move between my bed and couch, yet my heart is beating through my chest. I'm going through this no matter what.

First day sober, the last few weeks I was drinking a fifth or more. Got rushed to the ER when my pulse jumped to 160bpms, blood pressure at the ER was 213/90. Shaking uncontrollably and extremely faint/dizzy. I was so scared, thought I was going to die. That was 7 hours ago. Bpm is averaging between 100-120 when standing up. Thank you for this!

The first time I experienced withdrawal I didn't even know what it as. I didn't think I drank enough to consider it a possibility and hadn't changed my habit. I thought I had MS. Hypertension is my scariest withdrawal problem. I've hit 200/120 a couple days into withdrawal from 12-15 drinks/day. I've definitely gone multiple days without sleeping a few times too.

I just went through everything you explained Tim - I have been drinking a fifth of Evan Williams a day for a couple of years now. My body couldn't take it anymore - I am now on day 5 sober, drinking Gatorade and eating what I can - I am feeling much better now the worst is over - except for gravitating between insomnia and complete exhaustion. Very informative and inspiring video, thank you for your words of wisdom, God bless ~

My hubby went through shaking 1st day, insomnia first 4 days, 12 days feeling very cold and diarrhoea unable to do anything bar go to the bathroom right through Xmas. High blood pressure simultaneously and gout with swollen ankles after that. It’s the end of January and blood pressure is now normal, from tablets. He frequently sees docs which saved him from deaths door. This was from years of daily whisky drinking. Doing well now, let’s hope that’s the end of it, it scared him off alcohol for good. This was a fantastic video. Everything I was hoping you would cover you did. You kept it real about the actual risks of seizures and DTs but included them all the same. Thank you. I’m on day 5 home detox right now and am doing much better. Electrolytes, vitamins, rest, extra clothes and sheets next to the bed, always always drinking water, antacids, antidiarrheal, etc. The number one thing though like you said so well was acceptance that I’m going to go through hell to get to the other side. Saying to people it sucks doesn’t scratch the surface. Rarely does a disease equally affect the minds emotions and the body’s physiology. I remember the scene in the movie A Perfect Storm when George Clooney’s character says about the storm “she’s not going to let us out”. That what it felt like to me. Like alcohol is trying to drag me back through putting me through such intense pain for trying to get away. Unlike the movie though you can get out so long as we don’t stop fighting. Thanks again

Delirium tremens gets mistaken for alcoholic psychosis a lot of the time. I had seizures when I tried to stop but I was drinking over a litre of whisky a day for over a year. I don't think its just DTs that cause seizures I think the shock to the body in general can cause it. High BP palpitations are secondary to the abject terror and anxiety wotjdrawl causes.

You have to know yourself. If you're an alcoholic one drink can "flip the switch" and put you right back into the alcoholic mindset. If you're not, only drinking once would just give you a hangover, not the kind of withdrawal Tim is talking about. You have to be careful. You may think you'll never put yourself back into the hole of addiction, but most of us do. I've been addicted to alcohol half a dozen times.

You should NEVER withdrawal from Alcohol without professional medical assistance. When it gets unbearable, you can go to a Doctor who will give you a Medication called "Librium." Librium will quell the withdrawal in a timely and safe manner. The psychological withdrawal is another story, but there are treatments for the physical withdrawal.

Due to various personal issues over the last few years I started to drink more , never had any issues before that. I’ve been drinking around 350ml vodka daily for a while. Since 2021 I’ve had a few stages of abstinence causing withdrawal issues , for me the worst of it was terrible anxiety, depression and panic attacks (which I had suffered from before), to be honest also had a couple of periods where I stopped and was a just a bit shaky for a couple of days then fine. ,y issue is that once I start to feel better , it gives me a false sense of security and I start again on the same pattern. However this time has to be different. Ironically I’ve juts returned from holiday in an all inclusive resort where drinks were free at any time and as much as you want and the crazy thing was I drank considerably less every day , some days having just one or two drinks with dinner. I came home feeling great then started again and have been back on the old path for the last week. This time It’s got to be different. I have my plan which is to gradually have less each day, I have done this with some success before, as said my weakness is not starting again once all the withdrawal has passed and the dust has settled.

Multiple concussions, waking up for the SECOND time in the morning in my bedroom ON the bed with the back of my head bleeding. Soon as I woke up confused as hell. Which must’ve meant that I woke up and experienced my seizure shortly after. It’s insane how the brain works when it’s running on nothing but booze. I thank god everyday that I didn’t cause harm to another driver. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself. I knew I hit an all- time low when I had my dad (one of my biggest support systems) that absolutely despises the smell of vodka, drive me to the liquor store because I’d run out of Tito’s. I was so scared of DT’s & the possibility of another seizure that I didn’t even care at that point. I needed that poison to operate.

@@deliennemoncrieft1688 I was 89 days sober after my most recent detox but relapsed in August 😭 which led to another seizure, so I’m going back in after Christmas. Do you also suffer from alcoholism? Thank you for asking ❤️

the Only thing I don't like is that Nobody Ever specifies what or How much they drink prior to quitting cold turkey. For me, Beer was my drink and I only drink on average 4-6 beers a night. is it safe ? or how about those that only drink 2 beers a night ?

Generally if it’s 4 to 6 beers a night it would probably be safe to stop. But if your not sure check with a doctor. I was drinking vodka , most days 2 bottles. I wouldn’t recommend cold turkey at that level . A doctor could prescribe diazepam or Librium to help a safe detox or a professional detox over 3 days is sometimes offered! Good luck my friend
