The orange square adds to the madvillain cover. I can't really describe why but it makes it feel like a tape cover to me. Feels analogue to have that thing there.

I actually LOVE the Orange red square on the mad villain cover. It gives the art more personality and color. Without it the album would be very monotone.

the reason why I like the orange square is because it reminds me of going into a dusty ass record store or even a yard sale and finding LPs with stickers or post-it notes on them. to me it encapsulates part of that old-head vibe that DOOM encompasses

Yeah but it definitely does create an interesting visual. Not saying there’s meaning behind it, could have been a complete coincidence, but at the same time I definitely think it’s possible that they wanted that aspect in the picture, whether to represent something, or just as a cool visual.

I find it funny that the album cover for whole lotta red in fact has not a whole lot red but actually very little red in comparison to the black and white

I like the DAMN. album art because it fits the album so well. Kendrick really got out of his comfort zone and talked about depression and his mental state. The cover is just so blank and expressionless and kind of refers to his mental state.

29:00 the front of the DAMN. vinyl cover, aka the regular DAMN. album cover, conceptualizes wickedness as seen by the way kendrick looks down at you, where as the back of the vinyl cover, aka the green DAMN. cover, shows an alternative kendrick standing and looking at you in a sort of "weak" way, conceptualizing weakness. this also ties into the fact that red and green are opposite colors, and the dark red is used for wickedness while the light green is used for weakness

I heard that DOOM put the orange square on it so it would jump out at people when flicking through records in a store

I think the damn album cover perfectly embodied all the songs on the album and fit the theme a lot

they did the black on white version of unknown pleasures for some of the later physical reissues and it absolutely does not look cheap, i think it honestly looks better. i have one of the black on white cover vinyl pressings and it’s stunning. also i love the vinyl edition album covers for tyler’s albums, best versions of call me when you get lost and wolf

Peter Saville is an absolute genius. He did all of the album and single covers for Joy Division and New Order. Phenomenal, enchanting work.

The Donda cover is something I was mad about on release but I do gotta admit it matches the stark and cold atmosphere of the music pretty well. Plus, being a gospel album, I do feel like it elicits a more powerful, primordial, larger than life quality than any of the more angelic promo art did. Like the God it tributes is so beyond comprehension that no single image could ever do it justice. Definitely an idea that's been tossed around a lot historically, too. I like it. I think it's ok, maybe like a B.

Would love to hear your thoughts on Mick Jenkins ‘ The Water[s] cover. I think it’s pretty brilliant and matches the music perfectly. The back cover is even more insane too.

For a suggestion I would say Midnight by Set It Off. It's so aesthetic and captures the feel of the album perfectly. It also references one of the songs, Hourglass, with sand. The hands have 12 fingers, there's a digital 12:00, 'midnight' written in the back to reference the title. I think it's so beautiful and I love the little details.

The story behind the Nevermind cover...is Kurt was in the hotel room with Dave in between recording songs for the album...a documentary was on TV about underwater birth and Kurt came up with the idea over a few days.
