No permission be required from parents, but they should still be notified. They should be notified when kids are starting sexual education classes to ( which they already do ). And as far as sports goes, it sounds like the government is just trying to protect women’s rights. Which in 2024 is 100% not the same as trans rights. And for anybody that’s a parent of girls, they should have no problem with that.

Why do you think teachers want anything to do with your kids? Nothing would make their life easier for teachers than to have a bunch of students who have no emotional issues to deal with and simply want to learn reading, writing, and arithmetic. BUT THEY DON'T. They have hundreds of individuals that are looking for guidance - many of whom are not getting any from their parents. You don't want teachers to raise your kids? Try doing a better job raising them yourself.

Well schools have counselors as well to help with a child. I could even ask for their academic credentials. I don't remember a parent that goes to at minimum 4 years of dedicated learning to fill their role. Idk are you a parent. What are you're academic credentials, or did you take a trade. Maybe you're an entrepreneur with a vision on how to parent. This is jest, though it'd be a funny idea to see who would pay for who's parenting. Maybe a book idea idk. @@tahaymvids1631 That's the parents right so long as it is within the laws of Canada, it is their right. So long as they are the legal guardian of the minor.

What a misguided headline. Parents must retain their rights with their children. Having parental consent for minors on such a serious issue is fully right and just.

This whole issue is the breakdown of the family unit and the propping up of the State. The State has absolutely no business in family issues.

Schools aren't clubs, they are there to teach. Teachers will call you by your legal name.

Parents are legally responsible for the lives of their MINOR children. If the MINOR wants to change, let the parents and the kids deal with it together under the guidance of a medical professional.

Whatever happened to medical ethics , shame on the Uber lords of the Canadian medical association for not speaking up for their fIduciary duties and oaths to practice medicine ( "do no harm"). The shortage of doctors care might have something to do with this medieval minded monopoly , acting more like a cartel out of a mafia novel , so the phrase " you will know them by their fruits comes to mind " .... fiduciary duty as a doctor? check your brainpan. The reality is that transgender affirming care is the best care for transgender children. So providing it is how doctors do best by their patients.

This is a step in the right direction. Teachers have 0 rights to encourage students to hide these things from their parents. Hope they add a clause that if teachers/schools hide it results in expulsions and cuts in funding

Bravo, Danielle. Tom Mulcair, you are so off the mark on this. You are retired, stay that way.

Daniel Smith is coming from a place of science and compassion , this issue is complex and I think largely due to social contagion, which in itself is often amounts to a harmless phase . The trans issue is different , identifying as trans can lead to medical and surgical intervention with well documented disastrous results. Parents must be informed , children must be protected from sex education not appropriate for their age and get supportive not affirmative care.

Liberals & NDP, better start being adults in the room again, or you will all dissappear!

Well just a few educators on power trips who of course think they know more than parents about their kids and what they want. I wonder how many of these children who want to morph into something they are not will come back down the road with lawsuits against their parents and anyone else they can name for allowing this to happen to them because they were never fully informed of the consequences of their choices.

Children are not able to make sound judgment & decisions,I should know I was young once & if I had listened to my father more often I would’ve had an almost pain free childhood,parents up here are the prime caregiver & it’s the parents soul responsibility to protect our children, we can’t have it both ways that just adds confusion to children that are already struggling puberty

CPS in Montana just took away a familys 13 years old girl and began transition therapy and medication. Now living in facility wearing chest binders and going by leo 😮

I'd love to hear the full story from a credible source. Almost assuredly details are omitted.

..."adolescents going through all the various difficluties, quite often the bullying, and the self questioning , and the doubt..." So, this is the ONLY generation in history that needs a "safe space". I remember going through all the same things in the 1970's when I went to school and I certainly didn't need a "safe space".

For anyone against Alberta's position, if a 13 year old committed a crime, lets say murder, should they be tried as an adult (able to make their own decisions and full understanding of the consequences) or child? The same logic applies here, under the age of 18, the individual doesn't have the understanding to make a life altering decision!
