Alberta black bear pretty lethargic out of den this spring! April 28th, 2024
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Working as a bear specialist up in northern Alberta, my role was to keep the bears away from the work zones. But as much as it is about keeping the people safe from the bears, I believe is protecting the bears from the people just as much. As for this bear, it was pretty chill and really lethargic, moving about the area with no hurry as the dry and cool temps hadn't allowed for much to green up just yet. This video was shot on April 28th, and it decided to bed down only a few meters away from the road. With the road conditions and dust, too much could go wrong and this bear could get struck, so with some gentle persuasion, I was able to get it away from the potential danger and risk of being struck by a truck or vehicle.

@@TheBearGuyCanada¿ the bear ?
I absolutely love your professional and kind understanding of these animals. Yes, they can be deadly but huge thanks to people like you that understand these animals, you help balance the best for both people and animal. You help educate humans that we are in their home turf so lets think different ! Ty. I am in awe! Beautiful landscape too. I simply love watching all your videos.
Often, I’m like that, too, when I first wake up…and I haven’t been sleeping for months on end. Thank you for the advice, “not-Steve.”

You're so welcome!
Thanks Bear Guy ❤
Looks big and healthy for springtime, I don't think I've seen a black bear on your site before, not sure what weather there in Alberta is like but here in Ontario we have had spring, winter, spring, winter last couple months, confused the humans so I can only imagine what its done to wildlife. Stay safe

I've posted about black bears in the past, but surprisingly they don't get well received for some reason? The bears will be fine, a lot of people think it's the weather or temps, but it has more to do with food availibilty and new growth. So even if the bears go for a walk about, they find nothing and almost return to a dormant state till the next time.....the lack of snow or extreme coldness only play a small factor. In most cases, the grizzlies are still in the den or very close to them until mid May.....even with the mild winter and lack of snow, not that many are out and about yet.

@@TheBearGuyCanada I love seeing about all species of bears, we dont have Grizzlies in Ontario only black bears and although I have had friends see them on their property through trail cams, I myself have never seen one which is fine with me. Thanks for sharing your job of protecting bears with all of us.

Wildlife don’t get confused… they roll with the weather and they have an internal clock that reads dead accurate. If spring is late they know it… and deal with it.

This bear looks really sleepy, as if still in the phase of walking hibernation. 🐻❄️🐻🐼

Absolutely, it's probably popped out several times over the last three weeks, but there's very little for food yet, so it would try to waste very little calories looking for what's not there.
I am so glad you and people like you are able to do things like this to keep the bears safe. Let's me know there are still good people out there. Thanks for the video.....

Poor bear, im more worried about human danger to the poor bears. Im glad you are there to keep them safe from humans ever so invading their little lands they have left. I would never go places they roam around and find food because I respect their territory and boundaries.

The lands black bears have left are not "little". In Canada, they still occupy about 60% of their historical range. There are more than three hundred thousand black bears in Canada, with home ranges per bear sometimes as small as five square kilometers, sometimes as large as several thousand square kilometers. All told, they certainly inhabit significantly more than a million square kilometers. Never going where bears go just isn't practical in Canada. In most provinces of Canada, there are large numbers of towns and cities where bears live all around. There are also many towns that bears occasionally stray into, so even the most stay-at-home people might occasionally encounter a bear. It's just a fact that humans and bears share much of Canada's landscape, and The Bear Guy is one among the laudable people who help keeping that shared land use as free from conflict as possible. By the way, in some parts of the U.S., the situation is similar to Canada. And there are many countries in the world where the local species of bears are abundant. Obvious examples include Russia and India, but there are some countries where bear densities are even higher than in Canada and consequently the aspect of sharing the lanscape with humas is even more pronounced: for example Romania and Slovenia...
