Thank you Delaney, the experience certainly lives in my memory today as clear as it was years ago. Watching the Albatross playing in the wind convinced me that this couldn't be instinctive behavior. They were doing what any intelligent being would do if they could fly. Surfers do exactly the same kind of thing but in waves, Albatross use the waves of air in the same way.

Could be there were testing the wind cards to see if it's worth it to go out for a meal catch

They looks peacefully floating in the sky, how awesome is that! Just heavenly.

Amazing.. watching them flying is so relaxing..They fly as if they are doing some sort of ballet dancing on the air!!

Yes it’s a good sea kayaking journey, you have to know your tidal currents, navigation skills and be prepared for a bit of a hard grind if the weather and sea conditions dictate it, but as you said worth it. Probably the best trip I have done and that includes crossing Bass Strait.

@@jeffdjtube yes, we sailed up from Hobart and did 320 miles in 18 hours 40 years ago. It is a place that seems to be a bit like heaven, if one is prepared for it.

The albatrosses may be flying but I'm the one who's feeling giddy with happiness. They give such peaceful vibes.

I love these beautiful Birds. This was a great video, thank you!

I had EXACTLY that question.... Not only the image s were great in the video, but the music in the background... The mixture of the two.... Wow... You made this nine years ago and keeps amazing people.

In my opinion you have captured some of the most beautiful flying I have ever seen. As an old hang glider pilot, the touching of beaks near 3:35 had me in tears. Thank you so much for your hard work on this and for sharing it with the rest of us.

I'm wondering Everytime when I watching them just floating in the air so amazing & beautiful 💟 ~And the New 🐣 learning how to fly by their own is also cute & touching in Daily Life~~ 💚

Mr. Jennings - This film was one of the most beautiful example I've ever seen of the Albatross. I didn't know that much about it when I began watching this so I did some reading. Nature, in her infinite wisdom, created every animal with their own special and incredible skill. The fact that these birds have the ability to go for such extended distances without flapping their wings is amazing in itself. But they can basically choose to hover in one area if they need too. The shot that began at 3:35 was a good example of that and between the beauty of the birds, the loyalty they have to their mate and the music, I was brought to tears. It is a beautifully filmed piece of work that shows us what most people never pay much attention too. I thank you for bringing it to mine.

MissDistarr60 Thank you for your kind comments. That visit to the island of the "wind dancers" certainly has been a highlight of my many sea kayaking adventures. I would like to go back there at least one more time and video the amazing aerobatics of these beautiful creatures in UHD video. That experience changed my attitude to animals in general. We often talk about the instinctive behaviour of animals but to my mind, after watching the Albatross "play with the wind", it seems to me they are doing what human surfers do when body surfing waves. When in close contact with the elements, both surfer and Albatross learn to respond infinitely to the changing pressures on every part of their bodies. This is not instinct its pleasure in responding to nature. After all if I could fly like an Albatross I would do exactly what they were doing and "dance with the winds". Thank you again.

Thanks for sharing such majestic bird flight. I videotaped a colony of black browed albatross in the Falklands, but mere numbers is no comparison to majestic flights. 👏👍

I just finished a university project into the shy albatross colony on Pedra Branca, and I thought I’d gotten sick of counting nesting albatross... but I watched this and almost cried at their gracefulness.

Makes me want to be a bird. What a marvelous sight, and beautiful music to accompany it.

What a magnificent bird! They never flap their wings, but simply soar majestically!

I have been inspired to learn how to fly RC planes, so that I can glide and soar like these special birds. I've always enjoyed watching birds fly since I was a kid. And now I've even discovered a website called howfliesthealbatross don't forget the com, which explains dynamic soaring and how Albatrosses are able to glide huge distances using minimal energy. It even has an interactive gliding demonstration with an animated Albatross! :¬)

How amazing. Such a wonderful bird, albatross. Such freedom and elegance! Lucky you who filmed this and saw this with your own eyes. I hope I will see this once. I support albatrosses on RSPB and I encourage all to do the same. They need our help. Support safe fishing.

Hermoso el vídeo, grandioso el vuelo del albatros. Lo he visto varias veces y me encontré con algo extraño entre el minuto 4:52 y 4:53, aparece en el cielo una línea horizontal muy luminosa y sumamente veloz, se ubica en la zona derecha del cielo, casi a la altura del ala. No es otra ave, es una ráfaga de luz....

Hermoso, es uno de los animales más sorprendentes de la naturaleza, y la grabación fue increíble, conmovedora, preciosa... ¡Gran trabajo, cómo me gustaría estar ahí!

Isn't it a bit odd, this bird has such large feet? For a flyer, you would think they would fold in for better efficiency yet it almost appears they can act as an elevator!

they can fold, but it would be for when they try to get a high glide ratio

Albatross' are in a family of their own that consists of several species. The smallest, the Sooty Albatross, has an average wingspan of 7 feet..The largest, the Wandering Albatross has an average wingspan of almost 13 feet, with the largest recorded example having a 17 foot wingspan. A bird nearly as large as a light plane.
