Alaskan Outdoor Instructor Shares Experience of Skating on Rare ‘Ice Window,’ Urges Caution

Alaskan outdoor educator and ice rescue instructor Luc Mehl told Reuters on Nov. 11 of his experience skating on an unusual "ice window" that formed on an alpine lake in Alaska in late October.
Mr. Mehl said that the once-in-a-decade “ice window” formed because of an “unusually cold but dry transition into winter.”
Calm weather conditions allowed Rabbit Lake near Anchorage to freeze in such a way that the ice was perfectly clear, while still featuring the ice thickness required to allow people to skate on it.
Video footage shot by Mr. Mehl and his wife between Oct. 23 and 26 shows people skating on the frozen lake-and with every detail of the lake's bottom revealed.
The instructor emphasized the importance of having the proper safety measures in place before taking part in the activity, as the clear ice can be deceptive. “Yeah, it is dangerous. And some people even did fall through during that week,” he said.

the video is remarcable. it's subject is the clear vision to the bottom of the lake, yet the major content of the video is watching the creator talking. suggestion ... make the video the skating over the lake and narrate with voice-over

You know what would be nice? Having a VOICE OVER THE VIDEO. We're talking about this amazing footage and scenery yet 70% of the video is this dude just fking sitting there TALKING ABOUT IT amongst random clips of the incredible nature he's TALKING about. How about NEXT TIME JUST SHOW US AND WE CAN LISTEN WHILE WE WATCH rather than TEASING with the little footage and making us WATCH YOU TALK about it. Thanks

People want to see the ice, not some guy talking and interrupting what they want to see. Is that not obvious? Run the skating video on loop and put your talking head in a corner upper right or left. Or, as was suggested by another comment, run voice over the skating, then go full screen to talking head after the skating video end and then run the full skating video again at the end with natural sound, no voiceover so that people can try to enjoy the full experience.
