That’s an awesome way to bath Phil- go for a swim first- seems less stressful on Phil but more work for you guys ....tough pick for you guys. Love how you really make your dogs lives about them - beautiful relationship and example to all of us. We have such a wonderful example from you guys. Those dogs swim the same way that I swim. Lots of effort and splashing with little direction, only enough to stop me drowning.

I love how NIko was trying to save Phil in the beginning, grabbing his tail and ear to bring him in. Then when she gets in she goes straight to the back of the pool and tries to get out. These dogs are so funny, love them though.

Mere watching phill is so relaxing , , irrespective of what he’s doing or up to. Boy I love this big cute sweetheart.

Oh this is wonderful. Had no idea they had pools for dogs. Poor Phil was so frightened. His little whimpers broke my heart, but he soon got the hang of it. Niko was much braver, and the shots of her pretty little face so close to the camera were adorable. I love the way she answers you too. And old Phil was nodding off when he was being dried. 😄 They are really loved to pieces aren't they. It's lovely to see.

Lovely video. Felt privileged to share pool time with Phil, Niko and the parents. Thank you! It seems Phil was less reticent after he'd been in a couple of minutes and also once he had the ring round his neck, keeping the water away from his face. Excellent exercise and fun for the 2 fur babies.

Just love this video! Phil's vocals sound fearful at first but his deep love & trust for you two motivates him to obey. Niko sounds anxious at first but she also has deep trust in the two of you. Such fun and love!

We have several in the metro Detroit area.

I looked up on google, "Do Alaskan Mali mutes like water?" and the answer that popped up was about your puppies! how fun. :)

for people saying you shouldn't force the dog to swim knows nothing about malamutes. These dogs are natural swimmers and have been bred for rescue as well as work. My malamute has a rescue harness and he loves jumping into lakes and swimming after people to help them back to shore. just a small suggestion they don't need that floater thing they are wearing. Malamutes are pretty naturally buoyant because of all the fat they have.

Not all dogs are the same... even with breeds that are supposed to be water dogs. Just because your dog takes to it like a fish to water, does not mean all dogs of that breed will so readily do so. Rushing the introduction to water for many dogs can traumatize them to the point of fearing it... or at the very least cause them to hate it.

Chipwhitley274 you are right not all are the same but there are certain instincts that this breed has that are literally in its genes. I'm not saying force the dog into the water but certainly don't treat it like its a little lap dog that's never seen water before. A lot of people treat Malamutes like they are fluffy toys but in reality they are incredibly tough and have brute strength. Its really up to the owner at the end of the day.

Its getting it overcome its fear not cuddle and caress it. We humans like to fondle our shortcomings instead of overcoming them. I think its a bad mindset, especially cause we took these creatures out of the wild now we're just humanizing them. Just saying

Hi, just started following your family and I absolutely enjoy watching Nico and Phil and the cat and your new baby! We don't have K9 pools here in New Zealand, I wish we did thou, looks so much fun. I'm surprised that Phil would be so frightened of the swimming pool; the Malamutes seem to be natural swimmers. Phil should watch some KZreads of America's favorite Malamute, Tonka (aka the "Waterwolf") who opens every day at his home in sunny Florida by trotting out into his backyard and diving for a protracted swim in his very own pool! (He and his owner, as well as a family friend and her dog, are on holiday in the U.S., and a few days ago Tonka "distinguished" himself by taking a leap into a fountain on the White House lawn - where our President and his family live - where he paddled a few feet before his embarrassed owner yanked him out of the water!) But, if Phil and Niko have a few sessions in the water it will be very good for them and help them to stay afloat should they ever need to do so in an emergency (say, in a sudden flood.) I envy them; I haven't swum in years, but I appreciate the sense of self-confidence and relaxation it provides, and I sincerely hope that Phil and Niko will learn to enjoy it also.

They really seemed to enjoy it once they got the hang of it, especially Phil, which I was surprised about. Niko seems worried about Phil initially and seeing her with Shane she definitely looks like a daddy’s girl. Phil looked too tired to care as he leaned against the wall whilst having his shower but still happy 😊
