Alaska with DHC-2 Beaver Flying - Shipwrecks & Bears; with a False Charge

Ron with his two sons, Danny and Nathan north to Alaska.
(cellphone vid)
After flying commercially and landing in Anchorage, the first stop was Kodiak Island for a week. Hooking up with local seaplane charter Andrew Airways, the boys went mountain flying, toured some lakes and explored the ruins of a very old abandoned whaling station.
Then next up was a week in the Katmai National Park to see large grizzly bears up close and catching snow crab for dinner. False charge by a mischeiveous adolescent bear. Lastly, a close call face-to-face encounter with large grizzly bear at the lodge beach; video taken at the concluding moments of the encounter as it moved away.

"needs a little varnish", maybe some deck repair, and a hint of paint= "seaworthy". Incredible video! The landscape is astounding. Thank you for posting.

Those bears, though. 🙂 Thanks for showing them without the music. Sorry, but I do enjoy the sounds of nature in nature 🙂 Thanks for trip that I could probably NEVER afford! I live vicariously through other people's trips!!! Hahahahahaha

I love the fact that you allowed those people to scold you regarding the silly behavior around the bears . Great flying, all the best from west coast Ireland.

Recorded bear attacks against 3 or more people are in the single digits. Still, those odds are way too high for me. Grizzlies are mankillers, and you may be able to kill them but most humans die first in grizzly attacks.

Nice to be able to afford to do that. Pilot prob couldn’t afford it.

If the only thing you had for bear protection was spray and cameras its not smart. It takes only one badly dispositioned bear to end your tenure on this planet. That means sick bear, injured bear, bear with negative hunter experience, ... etc. You surely remember what reactions you get when hurting yourself ... and how crabby you can get when that happens ??? Or ... is the guy with hands kept behind his back actually holding a shotgun out of camera sight? I sincerely hope so. Nice views of the landscape. Would have been nice if you also got the overhead view of the town of Kodiak to show they only had 3-4 deep streets before stopped by the mountain. It used to only have 100 miles total of street ... and that included the road to the airport. Great place that ... black shale and quartz everywhere.

Why are you harassing the bears? Really everyone that gets mauled obviously deserved it.

Suggest these people invest in a good telephoto lens and then give the bears a respectable distance. Foolishness has consequences.
