I can’t imagine people bringing cash into my community by the literal boat load and then treating them this way. Be very careful what you wish for.
People don't want tourists until the money stops rolling in and the economy starts dying down.
All of the cruise lines will just adjust their schedules so that they aren't in Juneau on Saturdays. Nothing newsworthy about this.
Imagine going on vacation and being greeted by locals shooting you with water guns.
I live in Asheville, Nc. In the last ten years it seems that rent has quadrupled and its really hard to find a decent place to rent. I can relate to these locals in the story.
Think about how much money these cruise ships brings to the city…
Interesting ... reporter states "respect the locals"; however, your story shows tourists respecting locals but locals not respecting tourists that the local government
Too much of a good thing. Wherever people go they leave a mess.
Next year the same people will complain about lack of tourism revenue for the region
I cruise every year and often feel guilty getting dumped into little towns for the day with a couple hundred of my travels mates. I think limiting these ports to only one or two ships daily, and having a day off every week is a great idea. Also, limiting ship size to say 2000 passengers in smaller ports. I travel on a 750 passenger ship for this reason.
I think that’s fair. They could also limit the amount of people getting off the ships at some of these ports.
Influencers have ruined so many neat places. I cringe anytime I hear a video start with “This is what I did on my xx day trip to xxxxx…”.
Happening around the world........places are being loved to the point that those that live there want their home back ....8 billion and counting world population
We just did this Alaska cruise just a few weeks ago. Juneau is a beautiful city.
😂😂😂 you should lucky to have a booming cruise city thats more money for your city duh yall Alaska ppl need to be grateful I wish Mississippi had tourism like this
Japan is having that problem with tourist. The tourist are overwhelming and interfering with the geisha girls trying to go to work, shopping, etc etc.
I cruise because I enjoy the ship and all of the amenities. I rarely disembark ports of call for just this reason...too damn crowded!
Just got home from a cruise to Alaska. On our excursions , the local tour guides actually thanked us for visiting because they have maybe 4-5 months to benefit from the revenue the tourists generate.
Limit the size of the ship .
Wow! People don’t like people anywhere anymore. Sad.
