ALASKA'S Most Remote Road to the Arctic: Driving the DALTON HIGHWAY by 2WD Van
Since arriving in Nova Scotia last year, we've been waiting for this moment! The 440 mile drive along the Dalton Highway, one of the most remote and infamous roads in the world. Can we take on the slick mud, the washed away roads, the daunting Atigun Pass and emerge victorious in Deadhorse? If we make it, we'll be at the official start of the Pan American Highway, after which it's only downhill to Argentina 🤪 Join us for the drive of your life, and a close encounter with a wolf that left our hearts pounding.

↠ A BIT ABOUT US
We're Chesca and Ben, and with our two pups River & Scout (🐶 🐶 ) we live and travel full-time in our self converted sprinter van, Sophia. We spent the past 2 years road tripping as much of Europe as we could, from the wild coasts of Portugal to the Syrian border in Turkey, tackling lockdowns and a van re-build along the way. But now, we're feeling like a new challenge. In the summer of 2022, we'll be shipping our van from the UK to Canada, on a mission to drive her all the way to Mexico baby! 🇲🇽 🌵

Stunning! Stunning! Stunning! Great work and magnificent country for sure! @8:55, crying is an absolutely appropriate response to seeing that beautiful animal! Having spent most of my life in Northern Ontario, I have experienced more than my share of all kinds of wildlife, including bear, moose, wolves and even a wolverine. All of those encounters made an impression on me, but I can remember every single detail of every single experience I have had with wolves. There is something beyond a wild creature going on, there's a kind of magic that you can feel if you're lucky. I am so happy for you, that you made it pretty trouble free, experience full and most importantly, safely with big smiles. I am excited to start a new journey with you. Cheers! Cheers! Cheers! 🥂🍻🥃😊👍🏻

You've put it so much better than I could have! This sums up exactly what it was like. After it had happened, we thought he'd been staring at us for maybe 15 seconds? It wasn't until we watched the footage back that we realised it was only 5 seconds. Time really slowed down like we haven't experienced before. "Something beyond a wild creature" is such a beautiful way of putting it! Here's to new adventures. Hope you're strapped in tight 😃 💛
As a Brit..Living in Nova Scotia watching you guys each week has been bloody brilliant ... 🥂🍾 here's to the next leg of your amazing journey 👍🇬🇧

Love this! In fact, as Nova Scotia feels like our Canadian home then we double love this 💛 🇨🇦
You create absolutely stunning videography -- as professional as any documentary film maker. I am so enjoying your adventure and have been following since Nova Scotia. Our family is planning our own adventure this August to the Yukon and will be driving the Dempster all the way to Tuktoyaktuk and the Arctic Ocean. Probably dip our feet into the water. I hope to see the world's largest caribou herd at Fort MacPherson, NWT if we are lucky. Hope you return to Nova Scotia someday --but not during hurricane season!

Thanks so much Cathy, that’s really kind of you to say 🥹 Have been really enjoying editing these northern videos, the landscapes have been so inspiring. You’re going to have an amazing time up to Tuk! Honestly we’ve fallen in love with it up here. Will leave a piece of our hearts behind when we go south. I think you should go for a full body dunk in the ocean! 🤪 And we will absolutely be back to Nova Scotia one day, I have a champagne bottle to top up on! Xx

Will you stop it. I joined in crying when you met the wolf and could not stop. You took me with you emotionally as well as virtually. The way you are able to convey your feeling of excitement and happiness is extraordinary. I've been as far as the Yukon and thought that was rugged, but this definitely outruggeds everything else :) It's great to be able to see it without doing all the preparation and taking the risks that you do. Great videography and sound. I used to live in British Columbia so looking forward to seeing it through your eyes. Well done guys.

Love this 💛 And we felt the same, that the wolf kind of represented everything we were experiencing on that drive. Raw and unadulterated wilderness.
The first scene really had me wondering if I clicked on a vlog or a nature documentary. 😂 Wow nature is just so powerful (and of course your editing 😉). So happy you made it! Now it's time to escape the cold! Don't know what's the english word for that, but there is this phenomenon of felt temperature (which is highly dependent on the wind) vs actual temp. I am kinda curious what the felt temperatures was, while popping the champagne. 😂 Little feedback on the side: Back in the day, you often included a little pop-up with conversion on the screen when talking about currencies, distances, temperatures, etc... , I would absolutely love to have those back if it isn't too much trouble to edit! What a recap this episode has bee. Thee wolf sighting was epic (!!), can't wait what next week has in store for you. Love ya xx 💕
@OverlandingSophia
Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much my love! Yes you’re right, we call it “real feel” - which is what the temperature actually feels like. So for us, it was -5, but the real feel when we were popping the champagne was -17 or something stupid like that 😂 Hahaha okay so you know, I keep forgetting to put the little cost conversion in and I always think - damn I forgot, I hope Jenny doesn’t mind 😂😂 Consider it done going forward 🧡 xx

KZread….the more I try to understand it the more it confuses me. This video has everything - an epic thumbnail, footage, drone shots, wildlife, storytelling, editing and narration. Just incredible! Yet you get 10k views in a day, which don’t get me wrong, personally I think is great, but then when you see another video which has none of the above, just a shocked looking face on the thumbnail and a title like: We got moved on, and it gets 50k in a day 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️. Brilliant video guys, love following your adventures 😁

Ok so you finally got me crying with the caribou. First the lone one and then the herd. The black fox started it. I'll blame him. Waterworks. I suppose it had a good deal to do with how excited I was for you two who I have come to be very fond of whilst getting to know you on your journey. Truly an EPIC road. For the sake of the scenery and your experience I will abandon my anger about the pipeline while you are there. Again gobsmacked by the difference in landscape even though it's frigid like the other flat snow covered places you have passed through. Totally different All wonderful !!! And I was drooling as you were enjoying your panko crusted fish. That looked so good. I am so proud that you made this part of your dream come true and could feel your excitement and joy. You don't leave me much room to express how brilliant you two are with filming, editing, and pulling everything off but I do indeed notice all of it. Very grateful to be along for the ride. Sending you much love and of course hugs for the pups😘😘💟💟 Be 💯safe .

Thank you Ellen 💛 Completely understand what you mean about the pipeline. When I said it was a scar through the landscape... I meant it was a scar 😢 But we are also grateful that we were able to drive this road and experience wilderness like we wouldn't be able to otherwise. To see that wolf was a moment of a lifetime, and the caribou! Weren't they just so beautiful in the snowy tundra! I love that you show us your route on the map (I have Google maps open so I can get a proper feel of where you are). I welled up with you, Ches, when you saw that utterly beautiful wolf. ( If you have 5 mins have a Google Romeo the Juneau wolf). And can we all just take a minute to say WELL DONE BEN for all the miles and miles of driving in all weathers, on all kinds of surfaces, and not being fazed by anything (including the windscreen missiles)?!?! You're a flippin marvel, meladdo! I'm looking forward to the road South.........

Thank YOU so much Sue! For the love and support always, it doesn't go unnoticed 😘 I love that you have Google Maps open to get a feel of where we are. And omg I just Googled Romeo! My heart melted reading how he befriended dogs and then my heart broke hearing how he was killed by sports hunters 😭 💔 They're truly amazing creatures. When you think of the history of wolf/human/dog relationships over the past 10,000 years, there is undeniably an unspoken connection there. The 5 seconds he was watching us felt like 30, time slowed down. And yes!! Ben did an AMAZING job of driving. Didn't get fazed by anything and didn't put a foot wrong. There were some crazy sink holes at one point that came out of nowhere that he just casually avoided. A marvel indeed, but don't tell him I told you that 😆 Sending love, Argentina here we come xx 💕

That was amazing! Well done Guys 🥳🎉🥳. Can’t wait to see what the journey south brings 😁

Oh my goodness, vast does not describe the landscape, there are no words that do. When you saw the wolf I was crying with you, to see a wild wolf, so majestic. You've done so brilliantly to get there, I love watching every week, it does my spirit so much good. On with the next chapter, stay safe, with love and hugs, Sue and Bryn xx

Big Congrats! Your filming, editing and music just keeps getting better and better. As you are reading this, I hope you are already in a warmer area. It’s 26 Deg C in Vancouver right now, (seriously unseasonably warm) but I’m sending some your way in my thoughts 😅.
