Alan Watts; Does life need to be meaningful? Part 1

Human emotions and psyche are very complex and abstract, especially when it comes to the underlying and the fundamental questions about the meaning of life and the nature of our existence. That complexity can not easily be expressed through words, as words are the construct of our rational intellect. Alan Watts' remarkable ability to add colour to his words has come convincingly close to explaining the unexplainable.

Glad I found this nugget! No mystical music in the background, just Alan Watt's brassy voice. Beautiful. I'm surprised there are so few comments, Alan is pretty viral on KZread

everyone has access to the truth. You don't have to wonder whether or not Alan Watts speaks it. That is irrelevant. Watts himself said once that if you were able to define the real, deep down you, you wouldn't be able to put it into words that anyone would really understand. Therefore, don't worry about whether or not Alan Watts has awoken to who he truly is, because he wouldn't even be able to tell you! Just worry about yourself!

It sounds cliche, but, the only true meaning for an individual is what they decide. Ultimately, happiness. We use religion to try and carve meaning and purpose into our lives, to make us believe that there is something more than just life and death. But alas no. Yet, don't take it negatively, take it as a gift. There is no greatr purpose, there is only you and there is only freedom. The freedom to do whatever you will with your life to make YOU happy.

It's up to you. For me, it does. But quite frankly, I dont care at all if you want yours to have meaning or not. It is.. what it is.

That is a very good article. I love it. But it does not obtain the whole of all truth. Alan Watts has some great stuff to add that isn't in that article.

Good question. I'd bet on Watts, who seemed to be more "in the world" than McKenna. McKenna would probably be stoned on mushrooms and would be easy to subdue. ;-)

Meaning..... purpose ? Who's asking ? but God's apparent shadow of God ? For THIS appears as but witnessing the Imagination of God AS "me" "you" and ALL-that-this-IS.

Maybe that's why people always get into religion because there instincts are to keep surviving, and to live in eternity with god would be fulfilling that instinct

all things correlate in the sense of an "intelligent god", which is the sense. if there is an intelligent god, and man is as the beast, 666, then are we not the opposition of god? sin, with intention of pure design.
