Vintage Gunners Henry played with the best players in the world and Alan didn't but Alan was always the top scorer and the best player in the league you put Henry in a Newcastle shirt or a Blackburn shirt his goals would cut in half

What did shearer win at Newcastle? Fuck all. Henry is miles ahead and didn't rely on penalty after penalty to add to his goal tally. He's also not a boring cunt like shearer

I'm a manc but I've always loved Al. Thought he was coming after euro 96 I was proper gutted. I how many players tho can say they've played in fa cup finals for your home town club. Pisses me off when match of the day say 260 goals. IT'S 283 TOP FLIGHT GOALS. Had some stick off my mates when they seen my VHS copy of shearer on shearer in my collection 😂

You can even hear the sound the ball makes when he connects with it. Thing has been pummelled. I don’t care what anybody says about titles or cups or trophies. Alan shearer was world class and an all timer.

Legend could of choose Man U , and won countless trophies!' But he choose with with his heart, he came home and thank god he did, loyal players like shearer are a dying breed, Wayne Rooney perfect example proper scouser but went to Man U , but Alan shearer doesn't regret nothing!!!! You hear SHEARER and then you see the ball in the back of the net .... goals and Shearer synonymous.

Shearer had really good power/pace on his shots, incredible rewatching some of his goals how strong a boot he had

What pissed me off is the fact he still gets overlooked, and people say Henry is better. Henry was defentely the more gifted footballer, but no way was he a better striker then Shearer. I think the problem with Shearer was his name wasn't Shearaldo and he didn't play for Man U or Arsenal.

In my opinion, Shearer has been the most complete forward of the past 25 years. I can't believe people think Rooney is better. How many times was Shearer top scorer in the league? 7 or something? And Newcastle were top 8 at best. Imagine Shearer playing for this Barcelona or Real Madrid team? Ha! He'd be netting 50 a season easy.

Lone Star Wayne was in the prem since 16 I think Alan 21/22 could be wrong and he's still no where near him goals and he played for Newcastle.

It’s hard to say when comparing players 1 on 1 like that, because playing for better teams obviously gives you more/better opportunities to score. Viera, Bergkamp, Shearer, Cantona, Sherringham, Henry... they were ALL beasts that could shine brilliantly at any moment. I am firmly convinced that the best/most unstoppable scorer of all-time is Ronaldo (Nazario de Lima... the *REAL* Ronaldo). There has never been another player that has DOMinated like him, on every level in every lewgue on every team like him, club or National. I still think he is he best player ever (Zidane also called Ronaldo the greatest player he had ever seen or played with). Had he not had those major career threatening/ending knee injuries, he would be the all-time consensus #1.

As far as Shearer goes, he may not have had the publicity as some of the players on the bigger clubs, but numbers don’t lie. He has over 50 (yes, 5-0) more goals than the 2nd highest ever in Rooney. ....I’d like to think was named “Alan” after Shearer, but it’s my dad’s name🤪

Alan shearer is a great man and a legend when my brother was dying of cancer my family being all born and raised in newcastle my brother asked to meet shearer and he said yes and played football with my brother and signed a ball that we still have to this day god bless you shearer

what made him truely great was his ability to become the best of his kind of striker twice. Earlier in his career before injuries he could drop a shoulder and score goals with pace and power. After a couple of bad injuries at newcastle he turned himself into the best target man and header of the ball I've seen, and still had thunder in his boots

I loved football like this. Players only went over when their legs got taken from under them.It was a game with integrity. Now a brush of shirts and players hit the ground like they were shot and commentators say they have a right to go down!

Im so glad that i was living in Newcastle and got to see Sir Alan play.

If he had of been Italian or Brazilian we'd of been absolutely raving about him. I couldn't believe the stick he used to get when he was playing for England. Great goal record...the best goal record in the Prem. You could pick any number of his goals and wax lyrical about them, I've got a few favourites, or say he should of played for a one of the very top clubs but he was happy playing for his home town and look what he achieved.

I think I was just trying to make the point that although he had the chance to play for, what some people consider more successful teams. He still chose his home town, who weren't such a top flight team as others, and I kinda like that about his career. He was a brilliant goalscorer no matter where he played.

ozza lowes He did pretty well with the clubs he was at though. I can't see that Prem record being broken for a long time, if ever. I love watching great football players on the tube, there's so many to choose from.

There have been many world class strikers that have adorned British football, but not many with the strength, tenacity and ability of Shearer.

That villa goal is one of the best finishes I've ever seen.

+ViksVidz I don't think so, he's never been prolific, the past couple of seasons he's struggled, he did very well when ronaldo was at his best and he had a good year in 2011, but I can't see him scoring 80 in six years or even playing for six more years, if he did he'd have to score about 13 a season, and while he could have done that easily a couple of years ago, he's only got three this season and he hasn't scored 20 goals in a season since 2011, his highest total since then was two years ago with 17, he scored 12 last year and in 2012.

+Fokken Prawn Rooney's scored 34 goals in 43 appearences in the 2011/12 season and scored 34 goals in 46 appearances in the 2009/10 season while playing as the main ST. The problem with Rooney is that he was so eager to help his team that he ended up playing in a number of position (CAM, LM, RM, CM) to benefit the team under sir alex. I don't think he'll catch Shearer though, this is probably going to be Rooney's last season in the PL.

For people saying that he must have regretted spending his career at Newcastle... Sorry but you obviously have not spent any time in Newcastle. He is more than just a football player, he is as much a part of Newcastle as the River Tyne, you will not find a football player more adored in his home town anywhere in the world. No amount of money and medals could have bought him that, he earned it through loyalty and passion for his hometown, and to cap it off he is still the BPL all time top goal scorer and that will never change!

I was fortunate to see that goal in the flesh awesome to say the least. Thank you Alan.. Howay the Lads!!

In my opinion Shearer was the greatest ever player, 206 goals is unreal. The man was a relentless goal machine, his awareness and ability to read the game was phenomenol. Goalkeepers would avoid trying to save his penalties he could smash the ball with deadly precision and unbelievable force.

People comparing Alan Shearer to Messi but it's no argument that Messi is the best around and one of the all time greats if not the greatest, it doesn't take away that feeling on the gallowgate gripping your dad's hand as wor Al smashes it home- best memories as a toon supporter. So what if shearer won fuck all at united he was home and happy

XGavinWX did you know messi has won 102 individual awards while Ronaldo has 75 also Ronaldo hasn’t won a individual award or a golden ball for his country while all the greatest players have.

Unparalalled, Unrivalled. Simply the best. He scored a record 260 goals in EPL for clubs like Southampton, Blackburn and Newcastle. But one thing I cannot imagine is that if he would play for Man Utd at his peak he could have scored 2000 goals because there were passers like Giggs Scholes Keane Beckham and others. His goal scoring feat would break all records. But he is still the top scorer in EPL history. That is the greatness of Alan Shearer.

I remember my boy Alan , very much , me playing in the UK when he just started hitting the scene. He was tough and his runs got better every year , Loved him very much, I wish I played with him. I would have played blind and known which angle to play to. He was that far advanced.

These are truely brilliant goals of Alan Shearer but many of his best goals were for Blackburn Rovers where he also won the Premier League title. Shearer was a tenacious powerful forward who could score goals regularly from inside or outside the penalty area and deadly header. He had a magnificient first touch, ball control, shooting ability, elegance and an ultimate goal poaching ability that made him one of the best strikers of the world during his peak in the mid 90's. I think he was the greatest ever premier league centre forward till date.

To much of a big miss for us Newcastle , we would always struggle without this complete player, would be worth 145 million easy now in his prime, just a pure genius tactical magician. a pure predator at zonal play.the very best, I ve watched him training and he just was phenomenal. A great role model for any kid to look up to . Disciplined and intelligent players like these will always be missed sadly.

It pisses me off that the goals he scored in the old 1st division are not counted in many charts that are complied of top flight goal scorers.283 top flight goals he scored and number 5 in the all time list.

Has every skill a genuine striker should possess, strength, balance, a great first touch, a superb eye for goal. Easily world class

I remember watching him play for Blackburn Rovers. He created goals from nothing. So confident and accurate striking the ball from inside and outside the box. He was a goal poacher like Lineker and reminded me of Andy Gray with his heading bravery and ability. He wasn't the fastest nor was he flash but strong, intelligent and no nonsense. A proper striker!

I used to go to watch Shearer play week in week out at ewood park. He is my childhood hero and I don't think there is another player in the history of the sport who I look up to more. However, to claim he's a better footballer than Messi is hilarious. When it comes to being an out and out striker I'd say he was, but not as an allround footballer. In saying that both players played completley different positions. Shearer - Out and Out striker, Messi - 2nd forward/advanced attacking midfielder.
