    Okay, the kid playing Aladdin nailed it. Not only that, but his singing voice is SO beautiful. Since I ALSO have a GREAT singing voice, I REALLY wish I was still in school, and that we'd done Aladdin as our school play. Oh, well. There'll be plenty of opportunity. Honestly, I feel like I'm watching a school play version of the live-action Aladdin, which is a good thing, because I LOVE that remake. And for some reason, "A Whole New World" in this school play is so calming and relaxing to watch that I keep rewinding it. There's only one thing I DON'T like about the play, though: If they're trying to follow the movie, why did the change the way Genie saves Aladdin? By that, I mean, why does Genie save Aladdin from a dungeon instead of drowning? They still could've done that scene. I would've LOVED to see Aladdin trying to rub the lamp while underwater, passing out, the Genie appearing and BEGGING him to wake up, the Genie saving him, and then Aladdin coughing up water. But everything else about this school play is AMAZING, ESPECIALLY the kid playing Aladdin. He nailed it, and has such a BEAUTIFUL singing voice, just like the actor who played Aladdin, Mena Massoud, in the live-action remake(which is MY FAV Disney remake so far), who's also on my FAV actor list and starring in two books I'm writing on a website called Wattpad.

    Aw thank you for the kind words! I'll be sure my son, who played Aladdin sees this. This was is his 2nd time playing the role and I really believe he'll be playing it again... on Broadway! 🤞

    @@joyarzaga No problem. I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it. Your son should be an actor. He did a FANTASTIC job, and his singing voice is AMAZING, ESPECIALLY during “A Whole New World.” I’m curious: how old was Kyle in this play? He looked like he was at least 14. Anyway, I don’t think I’ve ever watched a school play on KZread that was based off a Disney movie that was just FANTASTIC. Again, I really wish I was still in school, and my school had done Aladdin Jr, bc I ALSO have a GREAT singing voice. Been singing since I was five. I’m even learning how to play guitar, since I want to be an actor/voice actor, and country singer. I still would’ve LOVED to see how they did the drowning scene from the movie, but one thing being changed doesn’t ruin this play from being AMAZING. Again, I felt like I was watching a school play version of the live-action remake of Aladdin. Have you seen that? Cause it’s actually REALLY good. And what is it about the “A Whole New World” segment in this play that is just so calming and relaxing that I keep rewinding it? Kyle’s also an AMAZING dancer in this play. This play is ALSO HILARIOUS, just like the movie. Not only did your son Kyle nail it as Aladdin AND as Prince Ali, but I actually got emotional during the “What Have I Done” scene where Aladdin(played by Kyle) told Genie he couldn’t set him free. That scene’s sad, so it always makes me emotional. The other reason I say Kyle’s singing voice is AMAZING: I got emotional(in a good way) while watching this when he started singing “Proud of Your Boy.”

    @@redfire126 Kyle was 16 when he did this production. He's 20 now! This is the Junior/School version of the script and even on Broadway, they didn't do the drowning scene. And if you have a great singing voice and want to perform on stage, go do some community theater!

    @@joyarzaga Well, even for a 16 yr old, he nailed it. And even though they DIDN'T do the drowning scene, that's not going to ruin the play from being AMAZING. I LOVED watching this production, ESPECIALLY during "A Whole New World". Idk what it is, but there's something about that part of this production that is just so calming and relaxing. I've watched that part about ten times already. Watching this ALSO made me get emotional a few times, like during the scene where Aladdin tells Genie he can't set him free, and during the performance of "Proud of Your Boy." But along with feeling like I'm watching a school play version of the AWESOME live-action remake of Aladdin, I can't get over how BEAUTIFUL Kyle's singing voice is, ESPECIALLY during "A Whole New World." And I'd LOVE to do community theater, but there's one problem: I have stage fright. Anyway, if Kyle ever does this production again, ESPECIALLY on Broadway, I'm sure he'll nail it like he did here. He can sing, dance, and act. He's a VERY talented kid.

    This play was AMAZING! Our director showed us this in rehearsal as an example. I am play Fortune Teller and Manal (fortune teller sings the “Still I think he’s rather tasty” in One Jump and Manal sings “Stand on your own 2 feet” in Palace Walls) The play starts in May. If I were to rate this, it would be a 100/10!! I actually auditioned for Isir, but I mean Manal and Isir are both Jasmine’s friends anyway. It’s weird cause, I auditioned for Isir, got the role Fortune Teller first, then og Manal quit, so they gave me the opportunity, and I accepted it.

    The ensemble singing were off timing and it's very noticeable! They were off-stage and I think their monitor had a delay which made them be off timing with Aladdin & Jasmine.

    Hello! I'm a middle school teacher in Sanford Maine. We are staging Aladdin Jr. this spring. I fell in love with your magic carpet scene- the epitome of simple makes the scene. Here's my question: what are they riding on and how is it being propelled across the stage? Anything you can tell me would be helpful! Thank you!

  • @joyarzaga

    @joyarzaga

    Hi Adam! In this production, they made the flying carpet with casters on a board then there were ropes on each side and the crew in each wing (stage left & right) would pull them back & forth. BUT check out this production that my son also played Aladdin... They actually were gliding UP & down!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/pmZkxLhsd9W0Z5s.htmlsi=sQ78ukEPZ4GQEEuo This was a big see-saw that the crew would maneuver up & down & side to side behind the black curtain and the arm & carpet in front of the black curtain. Definitely use the dry ice to give that extra effect of them in clouds!! I wish you all the luck and feel free to ask me any other questions. :)

    I agree, Aladdin did so good in this production. I'm currently doing Aladdin Jr too and I got Aladdin as well! As a baritone, I don't work on my low range much, but I do remember my voice coach having me do long exhales/sighs from the middle of my range to the lowest note. What I would do too is sing songs that are pretty low for you but not the absolute lowest you can go, or even just humming will work.

Friend Like Me could be exhausting depending on what your staging & choreography is going to be like... so make sure you drink lots of water to stay hydrated and practice singing the song running on a treadmill or while doing jumping jacks and practice controlling your breath. The Genie has lots of energy so make sure yours is always up! Most importantly... just have FUN!! Congrats again and break a leg!!
