To anyone reading this: Wal mart employees cannot physically detain you. If you are in the right, just keep walking. They legally have no right to touch you. They are not the police. If the police show up, obviously cooperate, but I've read too many comments on this video about Wal mart not allowing people to leave that haven't done anything wrong. You don't have to listen to them when they tell you to go into that theft room. They aren't your parents, the police, or anyone with any authority over you.

As I was leaving, greeter asked for receipt. I was thinking really, you seen me at register and cashier rung me up. I had bought a hair clipper and supposibly wasn't on receipt. I told her it was and to check. Long story short, I made her take my bags to the register, take everything out and check it off one by one. She said " she didn't have to". I told her " you insinuating I took something, so YOU ARE going to check off everything ". She did and everything was on my receipt. Two can play their game.

I'm so glad she fought this. Walmart really needs to stop harassing innocent people. Quick story time for anyone who cares: once I was at walmart, It was pretty late, maybe around 8:30pm. I was there with my husband and we were shopping for back to school items. I had lots of pencils, paper, and backpacks and such. I also grabbed a few groceries and some dog food. Needless to say, my cart was full. I went to the registers and tried to find one that was open with a person at the register. But there wasn't anyone working registers. It was only self checkout options. My husband walked over to customer service and asked if anyone would be able to open the register to help us out because there wasn't enough room on the side of the self checkouts to place our items after scanning them. The manager yelled at him instantly! Like for no reason! He was very kind when asking, just curious if anyone could help us out. But she was so angry that he even asked. She said no, if you want to shop here you need to go through self checkout. Well my husband wasn't happy about that, but bit his tongue because we needed to get home. All of a sudden as we're scanning each and every individual item, we run out of room on the side of the register. So instead we started putting items into the top of the basket area. Well that was a red flag because then the worker kept telling us we were missing items. Needless to say it was a huge mess. I hated every bit of it. I wanted to put it back but my kids needed it very soon. I wanted to grab another basket, but they were out in the parking lot, and I wanted to use bags but they were out in the whole store. I just hated how I felt like i was working there and doing their jobs temporarily. Workers standing around everywhere! I hate walmart. 😒 anyways thanks for reading! Lol

Walmart workers are essential workers, yet they get paid in a way where the tax payer has to foot the bill because the owners are a bunch of greedy scumbags (aka walmart workers cost tax payer money in the form of welfare). Walmart still won and these little payouts are just a slap on the wrist for them. End of the day the only way true justice can be served is when we force employers to pay employees in a way that scales off of the roi the employee provides (instead of the minimum the employer can get away with). Ideally 50% of the roi an employee provides should go to the employee. That will never happen so in reality this is the smallest of wins. This isn't even a slap on the wrist for walmart really.

I told him several times it wasn't me but he insisted it was bc I was the only one besides his fiance who knew where the extra key was hidden. He swung on me so I did what I had to. I never talked to him again but through friends I learned it was his fiance who took the stuff and later she took several thousand from him and bounced. He tried sending messages to me apologizing but I don't need people like that in my life. A true friend would at least give you the benefit of the doubt and look at alternate possibilities. There is nothing worse than being accused of something so sleezy when you didn't do it.

I remember being accused of shoplifting when I was 19 years old in 2014. I was at the mall with my friends, I was looking around at things and wasn’t planning on buying anything because I was waiting on my friends to finish up. This employee was following me around and I saw she was just steering at me and just watching my every move. I continued to look around and see what they had. I told my friends that the employee is following me around for some reason and they said just ignore her because you are not doing anything wrong. After a while I finally went up to her and I asked her, is there a problem ma’am and her response was ya you are the problem and I said what did I do wrong, I am just walking around looking at your store that’s all. She said I know you stole and I said why would I ever steal. She just kept saying that I will call the police on you for stealing items here and I emptied out my purse and pockets. I said this is everything that is in my purse and pockets. Her response was ok you can go, I asked her don’t you owe me something and she said have a nice day. I told her that aren’t you going to apologize to me for accusing me of stealing and she said No goodbye. I had a crowd around me because I yelled out that the woman accused me of stealing and she won’t apologize to me for that. The manager came out and asked what’s the problem and I explained to him what happened and I demanded that the employee should be fired from her position because you don’t just accuse someone of shoplifting just of how they look. I never got an apology from the manager of the store and I never went back there again. There’s a lot of rude people out there that will accuse you of stealing and it’s just so frustrating and wrong.

She was wrong to assert "that you were the problem" and to accuse you of stealing without seeing you doing it but you fit a profile of age and behaviour that made her think that is what you were doing and with limited view may have thought she saw you put something in your bag. "I obviously wasn't stealing" Not so much.. people randomly walking around a store, "looking" at everything, picking stuff up, putting it back but not buying anything/much are often watched for shoplifting. It's a common trait among young / inexperienced shoplifters. That and splitting off from the group you were with is also a common tactic.. Either because the group is distracting the workers or the lone person doesn't want the group to know what they are doing. Put it this way, If you worked in a restaraunt and see a group of college / highschool kids comming in, being a lil rowdy, making a mess on the table playing with salt etc and typically oblivious to their surroundings and not actually buying anything much, maybe 2 drinks for the whole table, teen stuff, are you going to be thinking "these guys are totally fine and aren't going to cause any problems whatsoever" or "I'm gonna keep my eye on them, they seem like they might be trouble"? Then 1 of them confronts you for looking at them. How would you react?

I had just finished a 13hr shift serving at work and was already frazzled and tired but I had to get groceries... my kids were sick and grumpy.. the whole trip there was a nightmare... but my 3yo son had grabbed a nerf gun and I didn't notice.. I might have seen it but the fact that it was from the store just didn't register with a crying 3mos old and my 2yo throwing a fit for candy.. I have no criminal history whatsoever.. they treated me like a low down criminal when I handed them my receipt and they saw my 3yo son had the nerf gun that wasn't on my reciept.. I apologized profusely and being sleep deprived.. having a super difficult trip with my kids and hard day at work with my PPD I started bawling like a baby... instead of allowing me to put the toy back they made me pay for it... an 18 dollar toy on a waitress salary for a newly single mom of 3 really caused quite the adjustments to my still not figured out budget.. I struggled with bills for 2 mos after that because when you live paycheck to paycheck like that and still haven't quite gotten the hand of your budget $18 is a lot... I paid in the check out line but the clerk failed to nullify the theft protection device on the package. When I left the store alarms sounded and "theft protection" woman accosted me near my car. I never realized the alarms were meant for me. I was escorted back into the store where the woman dumped my stuff on the floor right in front of a crowded Friday night checkout crowd. Of course I had the receipt and it showed every item in my bag (2) were paid for. Even then the woman was holding me up from leaving. I finally picked my stuff up and put it back in the bag and demanded to see a store manager, who was even more abusive. I really don't like Walmart and don't understand how they got so big.

Now they're mostly an outlet for --- Made in China --- They purchase life insurance on their older employees (Greeters) with Wal-Mart as the beneficiary. ('cause it's legal..) Hoping and praying and counting the days. Woohoo! Another Greeter down! We can hire another old and disabled (blank check) citizen.., "Look America! We're compassionate! We hire the old and disabled!" (PR Department) They sided with the Anti-2A/Anti-Gun activists and stopped selling most guns and ammunition... to citizens legally qualified to own, keep, and bear arms. I'm fortunate. There are many other stores with very low prices within 10 miles. I have choices. Many poorer people that have to squeeze every penny don't have the same choices. They're practically and economically forced to spend their small and precious, tight budget funds at Wal-Mart. When I asked to see proof, the manager said no and he said he “saw what he saw” and threatened me that if he was my boss I’d be fired and immediately would’ve gone to jail. I quit right on the spot after that as I was fed up with all the micro manage bs I was getting called into the office for. I told that manager if he wanted to threaten me, he needed proof otherwise he was getting reported and one of my co workers ended up reporting him for the same thing and he was fired! Since then, Walmart has been sued 5 times as I am writing this. I’ve also been getting small settlement checks in the Mail over the course after I quit. It's something I had to deal with when I was loss prevention. We used to detain and handcuff shoplifters. But then the industry changed because of the lawsuits out there and varying state laws. When I went to leave I was questioned. I answered..they accused me of having more items in ky bag then on my receipt. Told them not to say that and check first.. pulled out the items...counted them. No apology. Then the returns... omg. They had me go to customer service. Said I would go but I needed to hurry and the guy said, 'No you need to take your time.' That is when I had enough and said, 'No! I need to hurry and PICK.UP.MY.KIDS." Went over to customer service. Another employee said they never saw me there earlier. Said that the dude wasnt even there. He said he was there since 5am...said'you were not at this counter. Described the employees manicure and even had a receipt for the other items. omg It was a mess. They never produced any evidence or video, but the police and prosecutor still wouldn’t budge. I completed my community service and received a letter from the court after fighting to have the arrest removed from my record that there was never any evidence of me shoplifting. I was stunned that this could happen. I live in an affluent area and have heard some of the police and stores “profile” “wealthy soccer moms”. in my state (I work in LP) they drop charges if we can't produce video or don't show up as a witness. Sometimes there's actual thieves (like people stealing 20 jugs of tide in one go) and someone in LP loses video by human error and the charges are dropped. I'm surprised to hear so many stories of people who are prosecuted with no witness and no video.

@@auteurfiddler8706 lawyers don’t take half of the money. They have a certain percentage/rate they work on your case. You don’t just go blindly with a lawyer and it’s all in a written retainer. No one even the highest paid lawyer takes 50% of your settlement. That’s not how it works and most likely the person who posted didn’t know what she/he was talking about as that in reality is not possible to charge 50% of the settlement.

If only false accusations actually led to serious jail time. It annoys me when I find out innocent people are in jail for crimes they didn't commit. They go in as innocent people and they come out with their lives ruined. Meanwhile the accusers get to live their lives happily ever after.

Here to add to the Walmart frustration! After working 2nd shift at my old factory job one night, I went to Walmart to get Gatorade and stuff for lunch break. I checked out at the cash register really close to the exit and it was not busy at all at 11pm. The security at the door could see everything I did but that didn't stop an employee from grabbing my cart, preventing me from leaving, and demanding to see my receipt. Initially I said "you saw me pay for this literally right there" but she wouldn't let go of the cart. I was so freaking tired and hot from work that night that I didn't really argue and had to dig around my pockets and wallet to find the stupid receipt. I sent in a formal complaint on my next day off and the response I got from the manager was "yeah your cart should not have been grabbed like that, but you need to understand that to keep our prices low, precautions need to be taken." Nothing better than precautions that treat customers like criminals!

When shopping at Walmart using self-checkout a worker came up and fussed at me over a "small item" she went through my bag and checked everything. If register turns off, employee turns it back on. That does not mean the last item or items were actually scanned so it's up to the customer in self check to ENSURE ALL last items were scanned. Employee not goung to tell you that or you'd be insulted and anyone in SELF check has the burden to DOUBLE check. Just because a power surge in store causes a scanner to go down does not mean every item you scanned got scanned. YOU have that burden. Plus if you don't know, ASK while on camera at register "Did my last bag, did all items get scanned? Can you double check for me because I don't want to cheat the store?" They will double check, and happy to and most the time the last 2 items or 1 item didn't get scanned. It's up to customer while in a SELF check to doyble check. they don't loom in your bag and double check or it woyld insult you so the burden is on YOU. See what I mean?

I’m at Walmart with my 3 kids. It was cold out so when we got in the store we all put our bubble coats in the shopping cart. I proceeded to shop placing everything on top of the coats. I check out at self checkout and when I am finished and have paid before loading all the bagged groceries back into the cart, the cashier walks over and without warning and without asking proceeds to reach into my cart to sift through our coats thinking I was hiding items within them. She felt pretty dumb when there was nothing under them but I felt soooo violated. It wasn’t so much her suspecting that there might be something under the coats, it was the fact that she touched my personal property without asking with absolutely no justification. At the very minimum she could have said “ma’am, do you mind lifting up your coats?” But for her to put her hands on my belongings infuriated me. Walmart sucks!

The boys had nothing on them and they still sent me a letter for payment of product that they didn’t steal.
