Talking about the 3rd Saturday in October, I remember a story from 1982. The World's Fair was in Knoxville. There was a local Knoxville food vendor that had a shop at the Fair. Naturally they had the game on the radio. When UT won the game, the local vendor shut his whole shop down, locked the doors and left 100s of people standing in line while he and his entire staff marched through the Fair waving UT flags, singing Rocky Top and showed their Vol pride for the whole world to see. Now, I don't know how true that story is, but I think about every year.

His scripts and 1st quarter plans are pretty good for the most part. But second half offense the last two seasons has been bad. Offense hasn’t been able to put people away when the chances are there.

I can appreciate your view. But against a&m if the qb doesn’t fumble the ball a lot that would have been a scores like Arkansas.

I love the fact that this game matters again. As a college football fan I remember the years when this game was "The Game". Tennessee has been close a few times in the past 16 years but to look at the skill and precision passing for the Vols it's obvious that the hype is real. I look forward to a great game and atmosphere.

Not a fan of either team too and I agree with what you said here. But if Milroe plays and doesn't turn the ball over he still has to make the throws. Tennessees run defense is good. If Milroe is one dimensional, which he looked last week, then he will have to make the big throws. In my opinion if MIlroe plays, Tennesse will win.

Vols are at 5 (Really 4 because one was on 4th down) and Bama is at 10 for the year (Fumbles + Interceptions) While Tennessee has caught 5 recovered 5 Interceptions and Bama has caught 2 recovered 3.. Just get excited friend

Coach Stallings said it years ago and it is as true today as it was then. There are about half dozen key plays in a game and if you can get most of those key plays to go your way you will most likely win the game.

As a Tennessee Volunteers fan, I knew how big this rivalry was. Back in the day, the winner of this game would rule the south and likely end up in the sugar or cotton bowl

The thing about the A&M game was that the only reason the game was close was the turnovers from Millroe. Eliminate one turnover that A&M scored on (The majority of their points) and the game wasn't a one score game and wasn't really close. Team wise, Bama looked definitively better.

But, the fact that his check downs were open SO many times and he didn't dump the ball to them, is the problem. A&M was down a ton of starters as well in that game. People keep failing to mention that and act like Alabama was the only one down starters. Bama was fortunate to walk away with the win last week.

It’s been absolutely unnerving watching Alabama this year, with or without Bryce. They need to play error free ball!!

That was the 2005 game. We call that game “Rocky Stop” because of Roman Harpers hit that forced the fumble touchback. Roman is a legend because of that one hit. This Bama - Tennessee series is about plays like that we never forget.

I want our team to play the best they have. It makes us better. We have absolutely nothing to lose. We chalked this and GA up as losses. We just need to play balls out. GB🍊!!

I'm encouraged that Saban said that Bryce wanted to go into the game against A and M. If Milroe does play, I hope BOB gives him an actual package of plays that suits his skill set. My grandparents (Bama) and great aunt/uncle (Tenn) used to go to this game every year. Bham then Neyland. My grandmother is the only one left-she is 86. My grandpa would always say this was the biggest rivalry for Alabama and after each win he would say smoke em if ya got em then light a stogie. Roll Tide!

This game has a Louisville-Florida State feel to it. That Lamar Jackson game. Not in the sense of Tennessee winning by that margin. But in the sense that they are peaking right now. All the hype. The home atmosphere. It’s got all the ingredients necessary for chaos.

As a bama fan this game is scary without Bryce. I believe Bama has the best defense in college football and it won’t be easy for Tennessee to score points but with an anxiety filled backup qb in that kind of atmosphere it will be hard for bama to move the ball at all. I honestly thought Jalen was farther along as a passer than he is. We know Ty Simpson can pass but is he comfortable enough in the offense to get some scoring drives against this team in this atmosphere? Either way it will be a good game and there may be a rematch in the SEC championship game. Roll Tide.

Hooker’s legs may be the difference. If the Bama pass rush can flush him out, can they then contain him? I feel good about this game as a Vol fan. Been Vol since around same time frame, when I first realized what football was and I loved playing and my roots were in TN. Think you about got it right. We've seen some wild shit over the years and looking forward to actually looking forward to UT Bama game finally... best of luck to both teams to play great and avoid injuries. another thing that no one can predict is injuries, and SEC football or any football in general there's always a chance on any given play that a player can get hurt and it might come down to which team has the best depth at certain positions and and a big question is can Alabama's offensive line protect Bryce Young? Because I don't care what anyone says I've had an AC strain before in my throwing arm very similar to what Young is going through and they can rehab that all they want but it's certain times it's hard to even lift your arm much less throw a football, so you got to wonder even if he plays how close to 100% he will be and what will happen if he takes a major hit or he gets sacked on that shoulder, I think Alabama feels that they have no chance unless he plays but is it really worth possibly losing him later on for a more extended amount of time, I mean I know Alabama doesn't want to lose but I think I would protect my star quarterback for the Long Haul instead of just for one game, because we've all seen in Alabama team that has one loss still go to the national championship game and I don't think there's any team on the rest of their schedule that has a shot of beating them in the regular season, But ultimately that's what makes Nick Saban the best coach because win or lose it's all going to fall on his decisions

1st Q of A&M Milroe had running lanes up the middle. Later AM disciplined pass rush left no holes. Don't understand why Bama didn't roll him out to allow him to pass or run easily. If Bryce plays /plays well, have a good chance to win. If Milroe plays have a chance if he can can effectively pass, no turnovers. otherwise I would agree Tennessee has a great chance to win. Especially if Tennessee's offense can score even as little as 14 to 20 points and Vol's D holds Bama to a stalemate. Biggest Q to me is Vols D. If Bama can run ball down their throat, winning time of possession, throw a few passes, its a different story. Hard for Vol to win if you're wearing out their D, grinding the ball down the field. Bama gets everyone's A-game vs how good/bad is Vols D?

Tennessee has good rush defense numbers because team have to go score for score with them and abandon the running game in the 2nd half. You saw this in the Pitt game. Bama will play better than people think. Remember 2 weeks ago when people thought that Arkansas was going to upset Bama on the road and they were saying the same things about KJ Jefferson. Hendon Hooker averages less than 2 TDs through the air per game and while he can absolutely sling the ball, Bama did a good job last year and held him to 3 TDs and the entire TN offense to less than 350 yards on 55 total plays. Meanwhile, Alabama racked up 5 TD and 208 yards on 48 carries and pulled away scoring 28 points in Q4.

Well ... where is Arkansas now? 3 - 3. That is why I HATE those stupid pre-rankings. All the hype until you get playing the season games. Also to your point about Hendo only avg 2 TDs throwing - well - 2 games he barely played 3 quarters and we were trying to establish a running game (went pretty well against LSU mind you) so we haven't had to "rely" on that as of yet. 🙂. And ... I hope we don't going forward just as you don't with Alabama. Great to pound the ball. 🙂 I am 51 and I remember these games as nail biters. I hope we get back to that. As far as Bryce Young's status, those who are talking don't know, and those that know aren't talking. Anybody can guess. Talking heads gotta talk, if they don't talk, they are just heads.

BY has an AC joint sprain. Thats NOT a shoulder injury per se, its a sprain of a minor nearby small joint. He could have played last week and most certainly will this week, although i would play both to help keep Tn off balance. Brice can be given a pregame Advil and if needed a bit of local anesthetic if throwing aggravates the discomfort. Again it is not the shoulder joint itself which might require more time if not the remainder of the season.

Interesting game...somethings gotta give here, Tennessee putting up big numbers and huge offensive plays against probably the best coached defense they will face. Does Alabama get a pass rush on Hooker...if not it puts a lot of pressure on their DB's. How well does Tennessee's defense play...Rodney Garner has the front four playing very good, whatever they're paying him maybe they need to add a little more. He's a Defensive lineman guru.

Am I the only one that thinks that people not appreciating this rivalry unless they're over "23 or 33" isn't people's faults, it's the fault of the teams (mainly Tennessee, no offense). We feel and know the big time rivalries because we watch them play out and feel the crazy atmosphere. Have better matchups over the span of "23 or 33" years and people will appreciate the rivalry as big time! :)

Either Bama will get a beat down or we’ll show up like we did against Georgia last year in the SEC championship game. Up to that point Georgia was smacking everyone else and were playing their best football and had the best defense. Crossing my fingers that Bryce will play and everyone in the receiving corps and Oline will roll like damn Alabama Crimson Tide legends should be.

Absolutely and when you've got I'm not going to make a prediction on who I think is going to win this game, I do think Tennessee might have a home field advantage being in Knoxville and that's a very hard place to play, but I'm not so tremendously convinced that Alabama should be the favorite even if Young plays, I mean let's just be completely honest about Alabama this is not the core of wide receivers at Alabama normally has, they all have underperformed all year, and it's really really bad to say that your best offensive player this season was a transfer from Georgia Tech who did absolutely nothing the last 2 years, I mean where are the super hyped freshman receivers last year that everybody was talking about after Williams and Mechie left for the NFL? In Alabama has to quit shooting themselves in the foot they are one of the most penalized teams in the SEC this year and it always seems to happen if the worst time for them, I'm not saying it's going to happen but if they go up to Tennessee and play this sloppy, they could be in trouble

Tenn's run defense isn't nearly as good as TAM's, especially when TAM had Jackson back in their lineup as a leader on their defense. Tenn's pass defense allowed AR to throw all over them, and he hasn't thrown on anyone else. I think JMill will be okay against Tenn if he fixes his fumble fingers. With JMill, I see the game as 34-31 Bama. With Bryce, I see it more like 54-24 Bama

I totally get your point Josh. And I do think this is prime opportunity for Tennessee to win. But my thoughts are if Alabama wasn't struggling in the turnover dept, and this defense is getting better each week. And even if Jalen Jalen Milroe starts, we won't see his fumble the ball like he did against A&M. Now whether or not the play calling is run heavy or not, or they have Milroe passing on awkward situations (imo). And he doesn't throw any interceptions. Alabama should get pressure, and get some turnovers this game. There has to be a moment that it happens. And I believe it's gonna be Saturday. But I do think if Milroe plays, or if Bryce isn't at least 80%. Then I think Tennessee pulls it off, by a slim margin. But if Bryce happens to be at or near 100%, and I'm hearing that he will be, and then some who say they have had this same injury are claiming that he won't be. But medical care is alot better than it was in the early 90's. Of course I want Bama to win, but I won't be surprised if Tennessee does win. And if that's the case, see them in Atlanta come December.

Because all the other upsets that Bama endured, Bama was the media majority to win. Now Tennessee is the media majority. And it's like no one is giving their defense any credit, and you take those turnovers away from the A&M game, Alabama likely shuts A&M out, or at least holds them to 7. I'm not gonna give a prediction for this game. Cause I think Alabama could possibly have one hell of a defensive game against Tennessee. It just has that feel imo, and Alabama could have a 3int 5 to 7 sack game. They've been horrible in turnover margin, and they've been so close a few times at getting sacks, but either Will Anderson Jr or others have overrun the play. Dallas was on point against A&M. And if Dallas, Will, and company are all on point. I think it may be something like a 28- 17, or 24-17 type win for Bama. I don't think Tennessee is going to run away with this game. I don't know wtf Barrett Sallee is thinking, ain't no way Tennessee is running away with this game. They might win, but it won't be no runaway.

@@jaydenwilliams5112 I did a repaint on the Sam's club on the west end of Knoxville. It's located basically in the same parking lot as the Wal Mart lol. That was in 2005. I met Aaron Sears, and Jason Allen at that Wal Mart. I noticed a truck with Alabama plates, and a 33 County number, Which is Franklin County Alabama, The City of Russellville, where Sears went to school. Allen went to Muscle Shoals, which I'm from Florence. Live right next to Wilson Dam on the banks of the Tennessee River. I told Sears and Allen that they were gonna lose in Tuscaloosa that season. Which they did, by a score of 6-3 in Tuscaloosa lol. I was up there in Knoxville for nearly 8 weeks. There was a kinda sports bar/Wings place called Rookies, off Kingston Pike, and we went to that spot every Wednesday. It was awesome!

I think his play calls were why Milroe lost those fumbles. That and Milroe's nerves. Milroe plays this game, he won't have the same struggles as far as losing the ball. Ill say this, Tennessee will have bamas defense gassed before halftime. Ive never seen a faster offense. Im an LSU fan and i was at the game last week. Our D linemen couldn't even get to the line and get set befote Tennessee snapped the ball. It was absolutely insane

Ty Simpson should have played last week. There is no excuse in a player giving the game away. Spurrier played three QBs in a game regularly just to prove a point when he was at Florida.

UT fan here. I don't think we have good enough TE (or RB at times) blocking to keep Hooker upright. Nor do we have anyone fast enough to spy Milroe. Even without Young those hurdles may be too much.

I think that's a fair assessment of the game. If Bryce plays, they can win, if he doesn't, they lose. I don't think Ty Simpson makes it into the game.
