This song is so personal to me, I was stationed in Egypt in the Army from 1983 to 1983. I would listen to this cassette every morning for 6 months , thinking about my girlfriend in Pittsburgh.💞💞💞 Thanks Al.....RIP.

There's few things better than being at an AL Jarreau concert

1982, a freshman in college was trying to find his way when I started getting in Al so I bought the Breakin' Away cassette and that tape assisted a brother in so many ways. While friends were vibing with rap, Al was offering me perspective on life, love, relationship and spirituality. I awakened to this cassette for an entire semester. So happy for the gift of music and what it has meant on a highly personal level. That is the true menaing of art, IMO.

I have a family (a sister and two brothers I met in high school) who’ve been tremendous, amazing friends to me for 45 years. When I hear this song, I think of them! I think God for this relationship! 😊

Al Jarreau.....a spiritual and musical influence on my being. Greatest vocal stylings ever....totally unique.

You can't fake a performance like this, you have to love doing this! I have played with some great musicians in my time, and the best were the ones who let their love of creating the music step in and take over from all else. I played a practice session with this man, and I can tell you that he WAS music! Talk about a master class in performing, OMG this guy was the real deal and the truth, all in one! I miss you, Mr. Jarreau!

Let's not forget the brillant Jay Graydon, he's the one who brought Al to those heights in terms of creativity, musicianship, and most of all in terms of joy recorded on acétate, or cd, or mp3, or whatever. Jay and Al formed a pair for a few years , and a few albums that produced albums that are unique and stand the test of times like few.

I remember walking into a "record" store in 1981 or so as a seventh grade kid and buying Breakin Away. Jarreau at his best ...

This song was written by Richard Page and Steve George. At that time they had an excellent but little known group called Pages. Steve Gadd, Abe Laboriel, Jay Graydon and I think David Foster were on the recorded version of this song.

I woke up with this song on my mine...I couldn't find it until I came here. Thanks

Every musicians journey begins with his/hers voice, and then it usually transforms into a physical instrument that fits the soul. Al's instrument kept to its purest form... rhythm, voice, melody, mind, body, and spirit... the physical instrument is nothing more than Al. I met Al (of all places) when I was shopping at the Gelson's market in Tarzana, CA. in 2002. What a humble man... I was so happy to finally meet him. I was really lost for words, but so happy to shake his hand. Thanks Al !

Met him once in New Haven, Ct. back in the early 80's. Worked for a Top 40 radio station and he was our guest star. Real down to earth and oh so humble. Was a treat.

Im so glad I was one of those kids born in the 80s just before the crappy music took over the airwaves... as a baby growing up I still got to hear Al on the radio.

I love Al Jarreau his music will be produced and orchestrated his music will live on forever rest in peace. Cobb.

OMG!!! I haven't heard this in years! I had the album this song was on. This was my favorite tune which I wore out by listening to over and over again. What memories this song brings back. Simply beautiful. :-)

I have always lived Al. My first album was roof garden. I have never missed a concert in LA from the Greek Theatre to the last Long Beach concert in August from the age of 25-52. Love you Al old friend.

Old friend Bramwell who passed away Tuesday 9/19/17 comes so much in my mind when listening to this magical song...RIP dear friend.
