Maybe We Should Thank His Crazy Ass, Jealous GF...For His Returning To His Gospel Roots. Al Said, She Knew Him Better Than Anybody Else, And Predicted To Him He Would Be A Minister And Have His Own Church. Well, Well, Well...I Guess She Had A Premonition -Eh. I Hate To Say, He Stated He Loved Her And Wrote That La-La-La Song About Her. Now, I’m Jealous As All Get Out!!! Although, I Would Never Try To Hurt This Man, (Like She Did). Mainly, Because I Know He Could Never Be Strictly True To Just One Woman - Heck, He’s An Aries. GOD, Had A Good Time Testing Al. Do You Think He Passed The Tests??? I Think He Did. Like He Said, You Who I Want, But It’s GOD Who I Need...AMEN!!! Love You My Soul Brother!!! I Wish I Could Meet You In Person -Just Once...Amen!!!

It's so strange to see early TV performances of Al Green. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder movements come to mind. But it is all so raw and awesome. The influence of African American spiritual traditions is clear. Such creativity.

Omg, you made me cry tears of joy. I'm from Memphis Tennessee. When I was younger my mother had own every song by Mr AL Green. She play his music while cleaning up the house. Not only does his music bring back memories. So does your comment. I was born 1964 and we me and my 5 brothers grew up there. During the segregation era. So many black families starve because they didn't make enough money to feed their families. I remember filling up a potato sack of cotton and getting a dime for it. But about your comment I remember we ate syrup and ketchup sandwiches. And was eating beans 7 days a week for dinner. But I wouldn't trade my past life with anyone. I ❤️ love and miss you always Mom 11/7/1942- 4/23/ 2012

all you meanies: how can you say anything bad about Al Green? he was blessed with the spirit of music in him. And he is so young in this video. These days young artists are so groomed so much it just about drains them of their souls. This man is a vessel for music and seemed to have such a sweet spirit.

Even though this was after the days of the original Enterprise Orchestra, who followed him like skin, this is one of my very favorite Al Green performances. As great as he was in the studio, and he was, there was never anything like him live, and no one close for me, until D'Angelo, who never got to realize his full potential. Al was the king of the sacred and the profane, and you never cared about the difference. Sometimes he made ME want to go to church. Love him to death.

Oh that man's just soooo good, the perfect union of soul and energy right there folks, wow. Love how he's so tight and totally in command of that performance -- from the confidence he boasts at 6:40 with "I think I got this thing!", to the ending he times so perfectly with his hands at 7:10. It just doesn't get any better.
