What a perfect, most sensational, most sensitive, most eloquent, most cerebral, most human, most majestic opening to a most outstanding album of all time.

It's astonishing this song has so few views, I feel like I'm floating above the world as i listen to this, rising above the world's conflicts into blissful oblivion. Di Meola's songs have such an amazing essence to them

This album plus DiMeola's Grande Passion album could very well be heard together for some of his best 'World Sinfonia' (with just one or more musicians) efforts. I still think Al should have done the Diabolic Inventions "solo" record without a beat, as he did with his Heart of the Immigrants' edition of Milonga del Angel. Or, at most, got Hernan Romero to accompany him. Or Mario Parsimano.

I prefer DiMeola's non-purist but composition-orientated take on Piazzolla to other jazz artists' approach

Riffs sound louder than melody, and compete with it in importance. It's like you are constantly putting the spotlight over the wrong actor. The character of the Oblivion is miss-interpreted. The style of improvisation sounds way too spanish. That's not in agreement with Piazzolla's style. Argentinian tango is more italian or german than it is spanish. I know that for americans everything that isn't your own sounds the same, but not to everyone else. It's like Di Meola uses music, any music, as a means to portray himself. He puts his ego first.

I believe I made my point. I don't feel like having a discussion on ontology of interpretation with a neophyte. Be aware that I also pointed out technical reasons. Not just "intent". You are entitled to enjoy any music in the world whether I think it's good or not. It doesn't make it good.

Maybe I missunderstood. Is the title of the song "Oblivion" or "random jam by Di Meola"? And, excuseme, you do sound a lot like a neophyte in music.

Then why can't I hear the tune being played at least once behind all that background noise from a riff that neither was composed by Piazzolla nor is in Piazzolla's style, and amongst a bunch or distastefull ornamets? What Di Meola is doing is not "interpretation". Interpreters don't add content. They analyse meaning. They recreate music based on their findings. There's no miningfull poethic analysis behind whatever he is doing. Only a random combination of sounds that make sense harmonically. Harmony is not all there is to know about music. See?? Neophyte.
