Married with Children ran for over 11 years and it was the number1 rated sitcom as well as 1 of the longest running sitcoms of all time. It did all this despite MSM trying to get it cancelled from the shows inception, but the people loved it.

While it is my favorite show of all time, it was never close to the top rated, it peaked at #37 on Nielsen ratings in 1991, the only rating metric used at that time. The reason is Fox was not syndicated in every market in the US like it is today, so it was impossible to reach enough people to make it any higher.

Al couldn't stand Peggy because she did nothing; didn't work, didn't cook, didn't clean house, didn't take care of the kids, nothing except steal his money every chance she got. He had a lousy job, clung to his past desperately and only showed an interest in Peggy when she cleaned or cooked. They were the ultimate dysfunctional family, but when it came down to it they always had each other's backs.

it's a satire, so it exaggerates everything to mock stereotypes... starting with the macho attitude of men back in the day. Al can't show his feelings because that's forbidden. Peggy is a lame housewife only thinking in shopping like all women. I grew up with those notions. Fortunately those stupid stereotypes are losing its meaning

But that's what made "Married w Children" so great..No one's safe! PC comedy is often lame-azz stuff anyway, got no real "bite' to it.

If you weren't alive when this show was on, which I'm not sure if you were born in the 80s or 90s then you won't get some of the stuff.. Plus, they live in Chicago.

Miss the old shows before everyone got offended about everything. Fun fact a lot of the ladies in the shoe store were comedians and they wrote a lot of the insults directed towards them. Amanda Bearse wrote a lot of the jokes directed towards her character Marcy Darcy. A time back we can all laugh at ourselves and go grab a beer after and laugh some more. People understood what comedy was and didn't get offended. Look up All in the family and the Jeffersons. Glad I grew up in the 90's.

i grew up on this show (It was a true game changer the early years of FOX as a network was very bargain basement (Locally FOX was on a UHF channel so watching it was rough) nothing was digital you’d have to use the antenna to actually get the picture to come in…. It got major heat/attention from Parents groups/watch dog groups (Hustler’s Larry Flynt got behind Married with Children and defended it a lot) without Married with Children & 21 Jump Street FOX wouldn’t have lasted and evolved into what it is now… The saddest thing is the show was canceled on the fly never given a proper ending/series finale 😢 (ABC’s Roseanne was a watered down copy of Married with children) But, yet Roseanne was considered “smarter” and cutting edge not true imo 👍👍👍

I have to disagree with your assessment of this show "not being able to be aired today" this is EXACTLY the sort of show that needs to air. If one's feeling get hurt because of WORDS then said person needs to be put out with the garbage and forgotten about because this sort of humor is what society needs so it can stop being a bunch of baby snowflakes and grow up. Shows like this is why my feeling don't get hurt over words. When you raise a weak society afraid of WORDS then life becomes very difficult for that person. Don't ever let words HURT YOU; only fools and babies allow such things, choose wisely...

Do yourself a favor and just go watch the first season. You'll enjoy it more when you know why Al is always pissed and grumpy. The whole Bundy family are beasts with the insults. They love and hate each other passionately. These compilations on YT reduce Al to nothing but an insensitive curmudgeon spewing out of context one liners. Still funny, but not nearly as funny as the show itself.
