The main singer Syrah (Sigrid) Hausen is also part of Estampie and Qntal and a member of the female a capella choir VocaMe (canticles of St Kassia in Greek and of St Hildegard of Bingen in Latin).

Thanks. I know of Estampie and Qntal, I was not aware of VocaMe. I will check them out. I really enjoy Al Andaluz Project's fantastic interpretation of these old Cantigas. The crystal clarity of the strings, the drone of the hurdy-gurdy, the rhythmic drumming, the medieval voiced flute, the subtle singing at 3:09 followed by the slightly elevated (joyous) reprise by the backup vocalists at 3:19 and 5:05, all coupled with the musicians pleasant delivery here, makes for a wonderful song. I find myself incessantly replaying it several times every day, either on KZread or on my mp3 player.

Its from a collection of poems & songs from the 13th century, all largely based around alleged miracles. Like most fables or myths they are contrived to sway the minds of common folk either by encouragement (holding out the carrot) or the stick (fear of god). Personally, it seems a bit creepy and un-saint-ly to have a statue lie in your bed, and get angry and vindictive. More like a Dr.Who Weeping Angels episode. But the musicians of the 1200's had to throw in some pizzazz to get their material played.

Old Galician. Stop appropriating, they were composed by Galician trovadours in the court of Alphonso the Wise in Toledo. Portugal was not part of the Kingdom of Castile and Leon at the time.

This sounds strange. The Cantigas are much simpler and not pretentious as this.
