By this the writer is referring to himself as an Iron Axe-head and the Lover as Sandalwood (Chandan). An Axe head is of no use, if it has no handle attached to it. On the other hand, the Sandalwood (Chandan) is so valuable in itself only but anything it is used with also becomes valuable. So the writer is saying that I was just a useless Axe-head lying around, until I met you. You made me complete, I'm nothing without you!. I hope I was able to explain, Cheers!! 💜🌊
