Wow, nice video & demo! I tried it with my trusty AKG K545’s. I think they both sound great, but slightly different. I guess it’s a matter of preference. I have the 361. They definitely struggle to get a good seal. On my flatplate I measured +10 dB at 40 Hz however even with a tiny wire tie inbetween they lose 5 dB. On a normal head they should be somewhat flat after the pads have worn in. Also because the headband is so loose a lot of the weight is pressing on the top of the head where they only have the somewhat stiff silicone-esque material. They should fit most Sony 7506 style earpads (100mm x 75mm), so for example the Yaxi stPad2 should fit. I also managed to put Brainwavz pads on them (microsuede+gel). Much more comfy but they lose a bit of mid-bass and gain more treble. I ended up using them stock. Overall it's a nice all purpose closed headphone. I usually run them with a filter at 9 kHz as I get a peak there and another one at 100 Hz to warm them up. Would definitely not recommend for people who wear medium to thick armed glasses.

Hi Oluv, I'm looking for a closed back headphone, for recording and mixing. I was thinking about the AKG k361, but hesitate because of the positioning problem in this model that changes the perceived frequency response (I mean, one should be very careful placing the headphones on the head exactly the same every time, and also everyone hear it differently, depending on the position on the head). What are your thoughts on that? Maybe it would be better to just get any simple pair (ATH m20x etc.) and EQ it? Any insights will help me. Thanks!

@MementoDubstep4 жыл бұрын
I tested the K361 against my HD58X and I have to admit that they are extremely comfortable and light. In terms of comfort the best headphones ever tested. The bass is amazing and very tight and deep - even better than on the HD58X but not as boomy. The Sennheiser has some warmer sound signature and pushes more in the 100Hz region. Now the problem: The AKGs are too harsh for me. They sound not more detailed, just harsher with a narrow sound stage in my opinion. I had to give them back. A HD58x-like sounding headphone with the comfort and subbass of that AKG would be amazing.
@HeliBenj

@@MementoDubstep sure, here it is after a couple hours only. I really wanted to like this, but turns out they are not for me... 361 AND 371 sound shouty to me, snare drum on Billy Jean almost unbearable at my usual listening level. When turning it down it gets better but then it lacks body. 371 seems better when I press on the cups, bit when I don't I seem to have a issue with the seal. The headbands are different and on the 371, because of the shape of my head I guess, the cup doesn't seal properly at the bottom of my ear. The hinge design makes the upper part of the ear cup bind against the swivel point, preventing a correct angle of the cup it seems. Not an issue on the 361. Maybe that's part of the problem Oluv points out about positioning? Also strange, my head is rather large, and I have to wear those with the headband almost bottomed out short. Maybe my head is wide and my ears are high lol. With a proper seal the 371 are better to my ears, nice balance a a bit less shortness, but still annoying. I know Oluv assessment is honest, but it just doesn't agree with me unfortunately. Still looking for closed back hd58x to track my guitar parts. Yes for me there is no way the 361 or 371 is better than the 58x in overall balance, smoothness and detail
@ElNuminos3 жыл бұрын
Did prefer the K371 because of their low-frequency-extension and more linear sound more, but the sealing problem's you mentioned are on point. I tried to love the K371 for everything they could deliver (they really sound great when properly sealed), are very handy for mobile usage, get extremely loud even without an amp/DAP and have insanely good imaging for their price category. But the loss of sealing (and therefore lack of sub-bass and already lack of mid bass, even under ideal circumstances, leaving some genres to sound a bit thinly bodied) did kill them for me on mobile usage. I also got the same malfunction as lot's of other people - the left side always changes it's size very easily, even when already wearing them. Also tried different pads (Brainwavz Oval Micro Suede with Cooling Gel) which improved comfort by far, but still could not stop the sealing problems. Especially with glasses and atm (thanks to Covid-19) wearing masks. I am actually switching to Beyerdynamic DT770 32-Ohm now, even if they lack a detachable cable, need more power to be driven properly and also need to get EQed quite a bit (Beyer-Peak, also powering down the overemphasized upper bass and enhancing low-bass instead). Their soundstage is also unsurpassed on every closed-back headphone. The narrow soundstage of the K371 is also something that always bothered me, but that might be just personal preference. I already switched their stock pads to Brainwavz XL Hybrid (which are quite gigantic and reducing volume a bit, but much more comfy/less sweaty and even improving the soundstage a bit more).

Wow, nice video & demo! I tried it with my trusty AKG K545’s. I think they both sound great, but slightly different. I guess it’s a matter of preference. I found the K361’s to match my K545’s sound signature the most. The K371 sounded a bit warmer than I am used to. I agree with Sleepy Takumi, it reminds me of the m40x vs m50x debate.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts and comparison of the ath-m40x, for me they have too much midbass. Otherwise they are decent, but soundwise the HD 58x are my favourites so far, really a great headphone. Thank you again for your recommendation on those!
I listened to AKG K361 today. Admit it, Oluv, they have a slight mid bump that you like!

However I thought both of them have extra bite in the treble compared to the original.

I've noticed this with AKG headphones, that depending on the positioning on your head, the sound changes dramatically and I really don't like that. I want my headphones to be comfortable and sounding right in the position I like to wear them in. Sennheisers, for example, don't have such an issue.

Great review,complete!On Omni Surround 5.1, the 361s are in favor.The sound is cleaner and clearer, but the bottoms are not enough. In the 371st, they removed the coating that everyone liked,it is unclear why((.Excellent performance in the game, positioning at the professional level.But we must keep in mind that all the sound that they are able to give out will only go through an external sound card.
I've had a chance to try both aswell and agree with your sentiments exactly. I think that the 361 is accented in a way that is more natural to the ear, albeit the 371 having a more "premium" sound. The 371 mids can be a bit hard sounding, though there is a lot of texture

Does the audio of 371 is focused on left like 361?? Hi Oluv, I'm looking for a closed back headphone, for recording and mixing. I was thinking about the AKG k361, but hesitate because of the positioning problem in this model that changes the perceived frequency response (I mean, one should be very careful placing the headphones on the head exactly the same every time, and also everyone hear it differently, depending on the position on the head). What are your thoughts on that? Maybe it would be better to just get any simple pair (ATH m20x etc.) and EQ it? Any insights will help me. Thanks!
but I'm hearing your sound test through mine Galaxy buds and they sounds good
I tested the K361 against my HD58X and I have to admit that they are extremely comfortable and light.
