Excellent review. I purchased this camera and I am with you - good for the price, but not great. I did find the video quality is very good to excellent at 1080p at 60fps, and it does take excellent quality still photos. Also, the Brave 6 manual does not mention anything as to the internal microphone's location. I figured out it is the small hole on the front of the camera just below and to the right of the number 6. I also learned no audio can be recorded when the camera is inside of its clear waterproof protective case. But, I came up with a solution to this problem. I drilled a small hole through the plastic case precisely inline with the hole. I then purchased a small, round rubber gasket, about 1 cm in diameter, and placed it onto the inside of the plastic case around the hole I drilled. The camera pressing up against the plastic case creates more than enough pressure to keep the gasket in place to where it does not move. And, if you're not going into a wet environment, you would not even need the gasket around the hole. For just a few dollars, another waterproof protective case can be purchased should there be a need to place the camera in water. I should mention the only reason I bothered putting in the gasket was because someone told me that such a small opening over the microphone could possibly create fogging inside the protective case, depending on the humidity level and moisture in the air. But, in dry climates I do not believe this would be a problem and the gasket not necessary. Thank you again, Michael, for your thorough review!

Looks like this is something that could be applied to numerous waterproof cases. There are "fog inserts" designed to reduce humidity in case of diving and sudden temperature deviations - and I have seen some people using as basic things as toilet paper 😇

@@TechMishka Michael, someone contacted me asking what kind of small gasket did I use because they were having trouble finding one the right size. I should have noted the specifications I used. The hole I drilled has an opening of 5/32 inch or 4 mm. I suggest using a fine point finishing nail, lightly tapped to create something of a pilot hole/mark so a drill bit tip will not run on you. First, I used a 1/16 inch drill bit just to pierce the plastic case to create a wider pilot hole, then came behind that with 5/32 inch for the final width. The gasket I used is the rubber (neoprene), flat gasket on the shank of a metal roofing nail - easy to find in any hardware store. It is the perfect size and just clears the width of a 5/16" (4 mm) hole. The camera firmly presses against the gasket and it is still easy to close the back door panel with the clamp. In fact, I find it helps eliminate any possible shaking or movement of the camera inside of the protective case. Good luck!

I liked your review, actually I bought this camera to do some mountain biking and showed on my channel, the good thing I got it for $40 in the late 2019 so I guess is not so bad.

Does enabling image stabilizer reduces the camera angle of view? My EK7000 reduced from 170deg to much less!

Yeah, it is being reduced between 5 and 10%. Most cameras do that when image stabilization is enabled.

How to solve the connectivity to phone? Always must reset or off power the cam few times.

if you shoot in 60FPS - stabilization is weaker. Switch to 30fps.

Could I leave this underwater for a couple days to catch fish in time lapse? Would it be likely to leak at 15ft for two days?

Yeah but it dose not show you how to get in the sd card, how to use it , or which sd card to by and when I searched “ how to put in sd card to the aka so brave 6 “ I thought it would show you that and it doesn’t say how hard it was to get the sd card in

for its price to value ratio , i can say its OK, remember its the adventure and the fun time you had rather than the gadgets you have. FDH resolution is still manageable. its just the company need to rebrand its claim. its not a true 4k resolution.... so people might get disappointed if they expect much without looking for some GOOD REVIEWS like Michel. aka. The only advantage with this one is the EIS in higher resolutions. Picture quality may be quite similar if we put stabilization aside.

2 months ago, I thought it was time to retire my GoPro hero 3+... and went for the Akaso Brave 6 and I must say, I'm a bit disappointed by this camera... I took my old GoPro diving, climbing mountains, hiking in all kind of situations (from Hell like temperatures with strong lights to deep freezing weathers / storms / no light etc) and it never failed! I tried the Akaso just one time and not in an adventure situation... I recorded someone walking a horse around me, I was barely moving and the horse was not going fast (just walking). Footage was horrible, even less stabilization than the Gopro I usually clip on my backpack when hiking, a quality not as good as I was expecting and an ability to manage the changes of light close to 0... In addition, the app has never worked for me. Can connect the phone and camera through wifi but the app freezes and crashes right after the connection... So, yes the price is attractive, but it has too much fails, specialy on basics (like the app not working!!? What the ...!).. This leads to frustration and kinda regretting my purchase ...

GoPro is a GoPro. It often is quite hard to switch to something cheaper. Perhaps you can sell it to someone that will appreciate it more, and invest the money in a GoPro. Right now the Hero 5 is at a great price. If you find the Hero 6 - it is awesome as well.

Yeah, indeed the optics was well done. Not as distorted as on other cameras. Note that because it was using the EIS in most of the segments, that has also contributed to the better looking image - EIS crops at least 10% of the image.

Great review about the good , and not so good features of the Akaso Brave 6 . The camera would of been better off with improved image quality on 1080pFHD , and better microphone for vastly improved sound quality !

Sure, you can shoot in 1080p, 720p and so on. I have mostly shot in 1440p, which is the highest non-interpolated resolution 😎

True that - it is mostly footage from Sofia, Bulgaria. And yeah - the camera is not great. There is now the Brave 6 Plus, which is a bit better.

I own this cam & after doing extensive video tests using a complex fixed subject with very controlled lighting, I tested all the settings and then I used the Bits/(Pixel*Frame) tests in mediainfo. The winning video setting was 1080P at 30FPS, this yielded a Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.750 . Don't waste your money on the external mike for this cam, it works at such a low audio level, not worth it. Yesterday we published the Seabird 4K review at about the same price - kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2eJlcSxotCfl84.html So yeah - putting them side by side, the Brave 6 should be much cheaper.

Another action camera without external microphone input !!! .... Why is so hard to understand action cameras needs microphone input .... Not matter what, an action camera without microphone input is just garbage.

It is not. An action camera with a wired microphone is not an action camera... If you get a dedicated recorder you will get far better results.
