Akai GX77 Reel to Reel Analogue Love

Музыка

Hope your all well, here we have a Akai GX77 reel to reel tape machine its a beauty it transforms music into analogue tape smoothness. Produced around 1981 to 1985 this is a classic.
Heres some info:
The Akai GX-77 is an open-reel deck designed to use both conventional and the new EE (Extra Efficiency) chrome-type tapes. A two-speed (7-1/2 and 3-3/4 inches per second), 7-inch-reel machine, the GX-77 is capable of bidirectional recording and playback. The basic advantage of the new EE tapes (currently available from TDK, Maxell, and BASF) is that, when used with recorders designed for them, performance previously attainable only at 7-1/2 ips can be achieved at 3-3/4 ips.
The formulation thus makes it possible to provide an uninterrupted 90-minute playing time (twice that of a C-90 cassette) with a standard 1,800-foot 7-inch reel and, further, an increase in the potential signal-to-noise ratio. The EE tapes, however, require increased bias and departure from the standard playback equalization. A switch on the GX-77 selects the proper parameters for either conventional or EE formulations, and a control permits a ± 30 per cent bias variation to compensate for brand-to-brand tape differences. No internal audio generator is provided to facilitate bias adjustment, though the owner's manual suggests recommended settings for a number of different tape brands and types.

Just got one a couple of days ago but without the lid. The price was so low I couldn't refuse. Now to make some long play 71/4 " tapes for entertaining and for the love grotto! : ))

Great stuff, guys! I recently spotted one of these offered for sale locally (more or less so - that's about 150 miles away from my home town, here in our good old Transylvania) and wasn't really sure about buying it. It's not exactly cheap, you know, but seems to be in near mint condition... But, after watching your video, I came to the conclusion that you were absolutely right: this IS a piece of vintage audio art and... well... I might drive those 150 miles after all. Tomorrow, hopefully ;)

Weven more bettered, run master into behringer t1954 into pioneer 909, 909 gas better high frequency responce at high speed... gain or bias is always the best way to drive a signal onto tape... More interesting is passing through a 300B as preamp to add high frequency harmonics into any recording.

Does it need to be connected to a different sound system to play audio? Or it has its own built-in audio?

I actually have one of these and want to sell but no idea where or how to go about it? I have no use for it but see there’s people out there who would know how to make good use of it. Any suggestions? I’m in Oregon.

If you have some tape test your machine to see if it plays and check ebay completed listing prices to get an idea of price. These machines are very desirable and worth money in the UK people want £500 upwards, thanks Bangers and chumley

Good look but bad hardware inside. This recorder is design trap. Behind nice design is creepy and cheap DC motors, stupid belts as source of technical fails. Technically this is junk. Is better to own GX 635 or 636 (for example) wich is great machines.
