AKAI GX-95 MKII - Kate Bush - Sat in Your Lap from vinyl to Maxell XLII - Real time A/B comparison
Музыка
Since purchasing this on ebay a few months ago it's had new belts, pinch rollers and an idler tyre.
It's also been calibrated for L/R playback & record balance, pitch accuracy at 3KHz, azimuth and frequency response using U04103-70 - a professional alignment tape supplied by Alex Nikitin at ANT Audio (www.ant-audio.co.uk/index.php?...) and the audio analyser software found at www.audiotester.de/
Doing a real time comparison here by switching between the source and the tape at various points, I have to say, I'm really astonished with the level of performance on offer here.
The on-board level/bias calibration system seems particularly accurate, easily allowing the deck to make recordings which are practically indistinguishabe
(to my ears anyway) from the source material.
The tape used here is a Maxell XLII although I have to say, it also puts in a pretty
amazing performance with bog-standard ferric tapes (like Maxell UR & TDK FE).
I suspect the vinyl has seen better days but Kate Bush still sounds amazing!
Album: The Dreaming, Track: Sat In Your Lap.
Turntable: Nottingham Analogue Dais
Cartridge: Lyra Argo
I'll be running a similar test on a future video using my Rega RP6 with Exact cartridge as a source.

Brilliant - gorgeous deck that I always hankered after - I remember when Hyper Fi was selling them for real deals. And Alex is an analogue genius - that's very clear on Tape Heads. Super demo - thanks!!
I have an Akai GX95/2, bought it fully serviced and aligned a few years ago from Emporium HiFi in Norfolk, one of those bucket list items from my youth. I recently gave into temptation and bought another BL item, a Nakamichi CR7, I expected it to whack the Akai, it didn't, the Akai sounded as good with pre recorded tapes and made better recordings. I sold it on. A GX95/2 accurately set up is a match for pretty much anything.
used to play tapes all through growing up in the Eighties, I wore most of my favourite tape out. Taping the top 40 every Sunday.
I adore that you tested The Dreaming on this. It's my typical workout for turntables as it's got lots of funny tones and nuance to work a machine out. This sounds pretty good but clean your copy!! lol
Akai gx -95 mk2 ha un suono eccellente tridimensionale, completo, con una gamma alta nitida e cristallina!
one of best recorders ever made, it can record better than a cd ..cds are 20khz and this deck can record up to 23khz using a metal tape, it is quartz direct for steady and accurate speed and also made with copper plate for noise shielding. I could not believe how well it records..I got 2 of them and sold all my naks and teac but still kept a sony es which is the rival of dragon in terms of recording and play back..
Excellent video! Really makes a strong case for the GX-95. By the way, I recently joined TH's (screen name: StandnHere). Perhaps we will run into each other on the discussion threads. Take it easy - Mike
I have the same deck and purchased from Hyper-Fi in Barking for approx. £220 in 1992 - don't use it much now but what engineering, not seen the like of it these days.
very good Akai deck, i have it to, the Sony K970ES is a bit better, also better build, but i like them both
Hi
hmm heerlijk deck, alleen lijkt het alsof op de 75mk2 en de 95mk2 iets bezuinigd was op de kwaliteit,. qua bouw en kunstoffen
Kate Bush peppers Song
good video, but bad record of this deck
