AJS Modena 125 start up after 3 weeks idle. Video 1

Комедия

Over the colder months, because my Modena is left in an unheated garage and used very little between October and the end of March, if used at all, starting can be problematic. Once it has started, I leave it to tick over for a couple of minutes before blipping the throttle. Once it has warmed up a little, it starts fine. Starting is not a problem during April to October when the scooter is used more.
I'm guessing that the problem may be a gummed up idle jet due to the additives in petrol these days. I may pull the carburettor float chamber open and remove the idle jet to clean it out. It could even need the choke jet cleaning out too.

Nice one. They are dead simple, reliable and good looking scooters. The GY6 engine is well sorted, runs great and is ideal for upgrading and modding. Enjoy.

I had two of these before my Vespa, I used to kick start mine if there were any issues with starting it. Nice looking bike, you may also have to remove the air filter and spray it with water repellent, they seem to stall in very wet conditions. Yon can't knock these though for the price.

Hi. Thanks for the comment. That’s something I’m aware of and am currently working on a solution.

I've just bought one of these,I had to do a quarter turn clockwise on the idle screw so it ticks over properly, the idle screw is under the panel under the seat (two screws)

Hi. They are a cracking little scooter, I love mine. Yes, you are right, you can adjust the idle screw under the seat in order to just take the tick over up a little. I did a video about that on my channel last year. However, I think I now need to adjust mine as it stumbles a little and idles a little low. I think overwintering hasn't done it any favours in a cold garage.

Maybe look at the cylinder if you can see it and see if there are any identifying marks or serial numbers/makers name?

Did you ever fix this? What was the resolve?

Yes. I ended up fitting a new carburettor. The original equipment carburettor is a bit of a weak point and can become unreliable after 2 or 3 years.

Yes, you could be right there. I've been thinking of upgrading the stator with one that gives more current output for a while now. I think I may also change/upgrade the cdi box at the same time.
