You break it you buy it. It wasnt hers so she doesnt get to ruin it. It wasnt a reasonable expectation for her to alter something that doesnt belong to her. If she had spilled on it you would be wrong but stitching it, she needs to pay for

Ntah there is absolutely no circumstances where you should be putting stitches in someone else’s clothing without their express written consent. Especially if you don’t know much about sewing and fabrics.

Absolutely NTA. She destroyed something that wasn't hers without asking.

I feel like she shouldn’t ask for the full price but part of it because even though it was a gift at first, she actually love it and wears it and now she can’t just because she was nice to someone else who did not consider her feelings, and the only way she could have that dress again is by buying the dress with her money when she didn’t do anything wrong so NTA🤷🏾‍♀️

I think it's crazy you want her to pay full price for something that was given to you. She should have never altered it without talking to you, the main solution is just never loan her anything ever again.

So because it was a gift she dosent deserve to have the dress replaced? An adult made the d3cision to alter something that did not belong to her.

Sorry but you never alter clothes that are not yours....that's not borrowing that's keeping as the original owner will no longer have the fit they enjoyed before you messed it up

Go with half price or something closer to what she can afford. She also needs to apologize to you for real.

Yes, you are asking too much. You didn't pay for it, so why should she....

YTA Your husband is right. You got the dress for free and now demanding full price as compensation is an asshole move. Sure, Mia should have asked you first, but I don't think she acted maliciously.

I'm with you. My sis used to wear my other sister's clothes. I think every time my sis would ruin whatever it was she borrowed. After a while I couldn't figure out why she would lend her clothes if she knew they would most likely be ruined. If it's that designer I would think she would have a list of rules. But she very well could have told her because Mia said she was fine with the length. It was a free dress. Sadly only Mia can wear it now. Tell her it's her birthday present. Next time don't lend it out or make sure if they ruin it they need to replace it. Or whatever rules she establishes
