Me and my boys, when they were kids, never missed this show. Those were the days.

Every time I hear Airwolf's voice I get shivers down my back. Even after all the years, she is still the best fighting aircraft out there. Would love to fly her in real time not just my dreams.

Optical effects, no real other way to do them, plus they showed up better against a blue or white sky, whereas a grey missile would be harder to see.

@@Ken1Yam yup, some missiles were mounted to the camera helicopter and filmed, but the yellow/orange ones are animated optical effects.

I love how so many of the sound FX were used across so many of the TV series of my youth...

No finer sight on TV in the 80s than watching Airwolf kick ass!!!!

As if the dogfight was cool enough, they end it iconically with "the scream" of the Airwolf engine as it banks home.

Oh! That old movie with the Republic F-84F Thunderstreaks as MiGs! Been years since Rock Hudson fought in Korea. Some of the best dogfight footage ever until that time.

I watched this as a teen, and loved it although I knew most of it was Hollywood BS. Then when I was 17, I joined the Army National Guard as a helicopter mechanic (and went active duty a couple of years later as a Combat Medic), and REALLY have to laugh at the stuff they showed in this series now 😂😂😂. Still one of my favorites though.

I love the sound airwolf would make as it was flying that's howls as it fly's

We had this show on telly in 90's as iron curtain collapsed. Remember watching this with my mouth wide open. Couldn't wait for next episode.

Helicopters has a natural speed limit, about 450km/h. If you add it`s speed if the craft plus the speed of end of the rotor it easliy excedess the speed of sound and back making the end of the rotor prone to crack. Could the jet make it go faster? Yes, but probaly it would broke the rotor.

Afterburners on a helicopter was the most ridiculous, unrealistic thing ever. But it was cool as hell. I would totally love to write a story to bring back Airwolf for one last mission.

Optical effects as a lot of the footage of enemy jets is stock footage, you factor in blue\grey skies and it made sense to do something to the effect that made it stand out from the background.

Sabres and Thunderstreaks stood in as MiG-17s. Clearly Airwolf was of alien tech alternating between deck and 33kft.

Mixed footage, but they were definitely Sabres and Thunderstreaks. In the 1980's there may have been a handful of MiG-17's still in service with some countries who didn't need/couldn't afford better.

A Rock Hudson movie set in the Korean War. Real F-86 Sabres, and real F-84F Thunderstreaks. Some of the best jet dogfight footage until many years later.

the inertia dampeners on Airwolf worked better than the ones on Enterprise

So I might be more than a bit of a geek - but in the flying sequences (aside from where they used models), the aircraft the air craft look like F-86 Sabres & F-84 thunder streak :)

In Brazil the show was called something like "Steel Eagle", wich makes more sense that Airwolf.

Well... Not exactly, the reason the helicopter was called Airwolf in the first place was that It was an armed-vehicle disguised as a civilian one (like a Wolf in sheep's clothing); Althoguh the name "Steel-Eagle" does Sound pretty cool aswell. (Though it's called "Águia de Fogo" not "Águia de aço").

Nah, we already had "Iron Eagle" with Lou Gossett Jr. (with a F-16 rather than a F-15, because of course), and what is steel really but mostly iron with a little bit of carbon and a maybe a sprinkling of a couple other elements tossed in?

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

I loved and still this show. What is funny Airwolf really did not take on the Soviets, it was really destructive to the Cuban air force. Stll well done.

they're pretty time consuming to make if you go the route i do with scouring episodes for clips of sound effects with no speech or music over them, though some of the sounds are off an effects cd.. Making one with music over it and no sounds is much easier.

@@gerv55 great job with the editing and melding of original combat footage from S1-S2 alongside the stock footage that was most apparent in S3-S4, the chopper sound effects also from S4, the rest of the sound effects and music from S2-S3, the special effects work from S1-S3 and the action and battle narrative beats from S1.

Helicopter vs Airplane is just fantastic comparison. Airvolf is great film, but it is a fairy tale. Keep calm.

Thise is a just movie, But helicopter using for groud only attack, and support, not willing dog fight to aircraft's... And... Aircraft is powerfull mechine, and then powerfull war mechine, very intelligence in dog fight, high speed, etc

when Jan Michael Vincent dropped out of the show due to severe addiction to alcoholism and got replaced by some other dude, the show just went kaput.

Blowing Russian fighter Jets out of the sky has to be quite a fearsome task. MiG Alley turns into massive wreck alley.

How dare they take on the mighty airwolf no enemy craft with will ever defeat her.
