Here's where the DeRez3 plugin came from. CreamCoat works as a general purpose reverb/ambience, taking the same basic algorithms from ClearCoat (when there's the Select knob and it's made out of 4x4 householder matrices, it's a Something-Coat reverb) but working an amazing trick on them that can really transform them.
It turns out you can get a smooth, lush effect out of the undersampling (no weird 'antique digital' artifacts) so long as you undersample by an exact divisor of the sample rate, and then use the Bezier curve trick to reconstruct the wave from the low sample rate.
If that was too technical, listen to the tone of the reverb as you drop the sample rate with DeRez. You'll get a series of 'steps', each of them being clean and natural-sounding, but having a very sharp cutoff. It's like a filter, but it's just how the wave is reconstructed. Using it at high sample rates is even better because it gets to reconstruct in a more finely-grained way, but also you'll get more 'DeRez' options around the area you're finding useful!
In keeping with the 'swiss army knife' concept, CreamCoat has a wide-ranging Regen control, letting you do infinite reverbs across any of the settings, or extremely short ambiences. And a Predelay control, letting you sit the short ambiences exactly where you want them.
This is almost certainly a better 'general purpose' verb than the original ClearCoat, which is simplified for ease of understanding the code. It's still pretty simple, though! I've got many more sophisticated reverbs coming or planned, but with this and CrunchCoat you should be able to cover an absurd number of bases, reverb-wise. I hope you enjoy CreamCoat!

This reminds me of the rmx16, that kinda David Bowie / Prince nonlin2 preset vibe but fresh and it's own thing with such cool options to play with. Great work as always, Chris!

Could it be that he was using on Station to Station? There is a nonlin quality, you're right, but I thought it was the 140 just without any regeneration. That'll act 'nonlin' too, because it's just one 'swathe' of reverb without any decay.

@@airwindows that's what I was thinking, I can't be sure though, I really like the quality of the no regen + a bit of derez, really beautiful stuff Chris. I meant to ask how did you get on with the script for your vca fader by colour thing? Any progress?

Check my recent livestreams: I developed an alternate tuning-correction in Reaper that's not ReaTune! I'd been doing it all 'manual' anyway. I'm really no vocalist but I care… and that can be heard… and when I tweak playback pitch of stuff (tiny clips in arrange window) that's way off, it fixes bad notes in a more natural way. If you can tweak playback rate of clips you can do it too :)

This one, and he also has this freezing reverb/feedback thing which is sooo awesome and handy, I think it was Infinity2. Which automatically removes stuff from the feedback loop very intelligently to keep levels reasonable. Fun to use!

Compare 'em to the shirt ;) I did a new thing which is an alternate color correction that doesn't do weird artifacting on bright tones. And I did indeed boost saturation, and I can certainly tweak that. It's all a learning process, EVERYTHING is a learning process. I thank you :)

The one that would be sick with modulation is CrunchCoat. In Rack you can do that just by running a cable to the DeRez…

Nice one Chris, it's nice to have these options in a reverb, the predlay sounds great, still very analogue too, and the derez can help a lot to glue stuff together by taking off the brilliance but in an analogue fashion (ooh wah wah). I'm doing a Clapton type track at the moment with my guitar, and I'm always wanting that reverb that doesn't sound like a reverb!! I'm going to try this right now (still can't believe you jumped out a plane) NB: Strange Chris, as I was thinking about how about build a plugin that has all your plugins in it, turns out by reading your page that, that is what is happening. Wow, love the GUI Chris, way-to-go!! Just experimenting with the reverb now. Link to Demo - kzread.info/dash/bejne/fYuqsa5-oLzYlZs.html

The open source world means that all that stuff can be happening. I only have to trust that I can survive on Patreon, and MIT license all this 'generic plugin' stuff,. and eventually other people DO start doing all sorts of things with it :) that never pays me a cent, but the Patreon does! So it all can happen, and doesn't do me any harm :)

I'll just stop the video now to be safe.
