Airplane Window Tint: Dangers, Damage & The Bad News I Had to Deliver

Ғылым және технология

Thinking of tinting your airplane windows to block the sun? Sadly, many pilots have found out the hard way that applying window tint to airplane windows can result in costly window damage, unexpected ramp checks, and failing pre-buy inspections.
In this video, you’ll learn the shocking news I had to deliver to one pilot who just had his entire plane limo tinted during the 2022 Sun ‘n Fun airshow.
I talk about why tinting your aircraft windows is a bad idea due to FAA regulations surrounding light transmission in the cockpit.
Then, it's all about STC’s (Supplemental Type Certificates) and why you would need one when applying airplane window tint.
Third, I dive deep into what “removable” really means in the context of loose equipment so that it's easy to determine if tinted window films fall into this category.
What about films that claim to be acrylic-safe? I’ll debunk what this term is actually referring to.
At 2:52, you can see for yourself the real damage caused by window tint that is not designed for aircraft windows. And, you’ll learn why even attaching suction cups to your window is a no-no.
But, the big question is: What exactly should I look for to keep myself (and passengers) shaded from the hot sun while causing no damage to my aircraft or its airworthiness? This video has the answer.

Could you tell me what part of FAR 23.775 talks about that please? I tried looking it up but I didn't see where it talked about tinting. I did see section (e) that states ) The windshield and side windows forward of the pilot's back when the pilot is seated in the normal flight position must have a luminous transmittance value of not less than 70 percent.
