Airplane Review: Cessna 170

Join me for a review of the Cessna 170 as I return from Nova Scotia to Ontario in this fantastic aircraft.
The aircraft is a four seat all metal Cessna that is very similar to early 172 aircraft with the major difference being the conventional landing gear.
A Contiental O-300 engine providing 145 Hp drives this aircraft along with its six cylinders providing a very sweet tone and smooth ride.
It requires a little more skill than many aircraft to land and take-off but once airborne is a fantastic cross country machine.

The 170 is a fantastically pretty airplane, and always attracts attention on the ramp. Not for the shy pilot, if such a person exist.

It really is plus the sound the O-300 makes is just wonderful. If only it made an extra 15hp!

2200 rpm for takeoff is much too low. It really should do at least 2500 static and 2700 at sealevel and 89 mph climb speed. As you cruise at higher altitudes it's ok to run the rpm up to red line by 7 - 8000 ft. Fly the 170 at 6 - 12000 ft.
