I was a lineman for 34 years and like my job you cannot afford any mistakes . You need to be on top of your game constantly. Not only for your safety but as for others . So therefore they earn every penny . When flying you want the most qualified individual you can get at the helm.

A stack ($10K) a month should be the absolute minimum for airline pilots (not including benefits).

Here in Australia, its about 30% less than that and decreasing (one payrise every 4 years well below inflation and major carriers paying less than award wage until recently), plus you aren't getting into a jet without a few thousand hours.

As an Australian pilot I now work for a middle eastern airlines company making over $500k , car , plus housing. Not a great lifestyle tho

Contracting is key, if you’re working for one employer and you have several years experience expect $200K annual salary if you’re contracting for various airlines and doing private work easily top 800K to $1 million plus save tons on tax

First officer starting salary at almost every regional is 85-90 a hour. Things have change post covid and the pay has gone up

That's the same with any major high end paying career. What you have to look at is the median. Even my job (technology) pays 7 figures if you're experienced and in a top managerial role

You guys definitely deserve that. A lot goes into flight school and a lot of responsibility is placed on pilots when they have to stay awake and monitor the aircraft's every move.

The FAA regulates the time a pilot can be in command per 24 hr cycle, usually that’s around 8 hrs. On long haul flights they have two teams of flight deck crew to make sure a 15-18 hr journey can be safely completed

As a, major carrier mechanic , I can say that some pilots a real jerks to work with. Having said that working their way up through the system can be real tough but it is financially rewarding in the end. Family life can suffer too.

20 years ago a friends son started work flying a commuter, at $14 an hour. 80 hours a month (FAA maximum). They earn their paycheck. Starting pay with most airlines is probably closer to $60K right seat.

No regional pilot is making starting out is making 50k a year any more. The starting rate has moved up to around 90 to 100k a year depending on how many hour your able to work because you not really in control of your work schedule so to your seniority being so new

And the pilots that pick up the premium flights are ruining the unions chances of getting what the they have been negotiating for for the last 10years. Stop picking up premium flights and the Airline will be forced to come to the table. And then you can go back to picking up premium flights.
